Special balloon release?

And once again I will repeat that there are times when you should keep your opinions to yourself and pick another soapbox. The people that are condemning the OP should be ashamed of themselves. It is 4 balloons. 4!!! Get your heads out of your nether-regions and think about what your petty bickering might be causing.. The OP was trying to think of something personal for THEMSELVES and thought it would be nice to share. so I once again will say 4 balloons is going to make no impact, and if you people are going to continue to spout harshness then this thread should be closed, and I hope you lay your head down on your organic pillow tonight and feel nothing but shame.

Heed your own advice. You are expressing your opinion. I have not expressed my opinion at all. I have stated the facts of the matter and provided evidence. :thumbsup2

You need to relax as well- several people mentioned alternatives. If the OP didn't want opinions, then she shouldn't have posted on a public message board.

I released a balloon the other month for a friend's little boy who dies of cancer. I thought it was a great way to honor his memory. I tied a little note card to the balloon, with a message to him in Heaven. I even put a few little Sponge Bob stickers on the back since that was his favorite character. It had meaning to me- It had meaning to his mother and brother and sister- That's good enough for me!:hug::hug::hug: OP- do it, it will make you feel better.

The OP has already contacted Disney, and they don't have a problem with it. Since they don't, I say go for it.

Exactly! :thumbsup2

What's more humane:
1. Killing deer to feed people (some places do controlled kills where the meat is donated to homeless shelters)

OR

2. Letting the deer slowly starve to death because the population cannot be sustained in the area that they are located in, therefore they don't have enough food.

You can call Disney and get a different answer each time you call that is no guarantee that is their official policy. Most likely it was just the opinion of whoever answered the phone.

True. I'm assuming that she did call as opposed to writing an e-mail since she received the response so quickly.

That aside, according to Florida law, it's fine as long as there are less than 10 balloons. She's releasing four.

Since state law says it's fine, I say go for it. :thumbsup2

I'm going to start releasing 9 balloons from MK every time I go to WDW in honor of all the people who are against releasing balloons. party:

Just make sure that you bring your own balloons. Those Disney balloons can get expensive!

Wow, I bet OP wishes they'd never asked, what a debate!

OP, I'm sorry for your loss, you must be going through a terrible time. I'm with many on the thread, release a balloon if you wish. Maybe not 4, but one? All write a little message on just one and let it fly.

That way, no-one will ever question it, they'll just think another child has 'lost' their balloon. It's not like people charge over and give them the third degree when this happens, most of the time it's an accident and the child is upset by loosing their balloon.

I hope you find a small amount of peace by releasing the balloon at Disney and I'm sure your Son will receive it up high on his resting cloud

The OP didn't ask for opinions. She asked if it was possible to release balloons. If it's not possible all you had to do was say no . Now you can got off your environmental high horse. She got the ok from Disney, so obviously they don't have a problem with it.

To the OP, I'm so sorry for your loss . I think you release the balloons :littleangel:.

Actually, she got an opinion from a single castmember who may not be the authority on balloon releases and may be working in a call center in Topeka, KS. Better to go to the top and send an e-mail to guest services.

No, at first I got the CM's opinion that it wasn't ok, but if it should just happen to get loose, then there's nothing they could do. But then she put me on hold to double-check official policy, came back 5 minutes later, and said that while Disney no longer sponsors balloon releases, it is ok for people to do it in honor of loved ones themselves.

Thank you to everyone who posted your kind support and condolences.

We've decided to release 2 balloons, one from me and his father, and one from his sisters.

We will each write a personal message, then have our picture taken as we release the balloons to heaven.

May not even have been a call center. Could very well have been a wah person who "put you on hold to check" and came back and said what ever you wanted to hear just to be able to get on to the next call as they are timed. I know I personally have been told one thing, called right back and got told the opposite.

Time for a reality check.

If you want to release a few balloons at WDW to honor your step son and even if you got bad info by calling and it is not allowed, as long as you do it quietly no one is going to stop you.

Though going back to your OP, I wouldn't do it on Main street not because you will be stopped but I would find a more private place.

Its up to you to decide if you want to factor in the environmental impact.

Not to go off topic, but I just noticed you're from the 'burgh. Whereabouts? I'm near Irwin, just outside of Monroeville and used to work in Bethel Park

North Boro's

I did see you were going to WDW for a Tamburitzan show of some and some one asked what a Tamburitzans was.

I really couldn't find any other Tamburitzans except that are part of the Duquesne Tamburitzans from Pittsburgh that know.

The only other reference I could find for Tamburitzans was this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamburica.

So are there other Tamburitzans and its part of some gathering or are you doing a performance like other dance groups do?

Just my 2 cents...however I think this is a beautiful idea to honor your son...also to the neighsayers I have purchased many a balloon i the parks for $10+ only to have them come untied and lost....it wasn't done on purpose but it was released none the less...not to mention how many of the actual cast members that sell the balloons have accidentally released them when handing them to a guest...it's part of having balloons and selling them....I am a former castmember and never heard of anything like telling a guest they couldn't release a balloon.
