Special 9/1/08 Cruise Continued - Part 3

Sending pixie dust out to cover all the bases for EVERYONE!!! :wizard:

Feel like I'm running on empty! Have LOTS to do at work to get ready to leave for a week, but I need to take time off from work today for a few hours... hate to do it just to catch up, but... I need to pack.

I've been wearing the "I don't need no stinkin' sleep" motto on my sleeve for several days now so I can adjust to cruise time! :lmao:

Joe's mom is still in pain, but the path forward has fallen into place. She was measured for a back brace, and will be in rehab for a while, then set for a procedure for 2 discs in her back... while we are away... We have been assured that the procedure is low risk, and ok for his mom to have. DH says he is okay for coming on the cruise. But I know our hearts will be at home with Mom B.

Get me on the plane... to Mouse Beach... and on the SHIP! The MAGIC SHIP!

Morning Kids,

Got the morning run in, next two days will be R&R before the 5 K then the DL1/2.

Lynn has been mega busy getting us together for this trip. She is doing an awsomejob. Will drive to Denver tomorrow, maybe go top the zoo. then fly out Fri AM, to Anaheim.

Laxmom , bummer on the laptop crash, I hope they can recover your files, I hate it when that happens.

One day of work here, then slide down that dinosaur tail.

Bummer is that I had just downloaded a lot of Disney music to make a CD to play in the car. I sure hope that isn't gone. I also can't access my DU reservation for this cruise. I had all my info stored on there with my ressie numbers. I hadn't printed Ryan and Kelly's docs. I have an email into DU.
I had better things to do today....like pack!

Let's look at it this way, we only have

Laxmom -- hope all works out for you!!!

Tracey -- make sure to take a pic of your face painted up!

Morning Everyone!!

Well, on top of packing I am now gathering extra food, gas and water for the kids while I am gone. Still keeping an eye on Gustav and hoping it will go a little more to the west. Even tho our house would still be on the east side...the bad side....we would at least not take a direct hit!

Hope you all have a great day and get all those last minute chores done. Safe travels to all that are leaving.Only a few more days and we will be on the Magic!! YAY!!! :dance3:

See you soon!!

I will have my face painted up a little each day of the cruise, so you'll see me I'm sure. I will also have it painted at the Port, so you'll know it's me...lol

Celeste - good to hear from you again!!! Glad that you will be cruising!!!

If you don't want to take a chance packing wine, there is a Wal-mart on the way to the port (1st or 2nd bridge before the port) if you have your own transportation. Alex

I don't think that you can bring wine on the plane...someone please confirm this for me.
If I remember correctly, you can only carryon 3oz. of liquid and nothing in glass bottles.:confused3

Does anyone have a report on Gustov? Is there any other storm that could impact our sail? I'm nervous about this. So looking forward to a nice, smooth sail. I guess I better stock up on the Bonine. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Gustav is headed to the Gulf, and will probably be a very large and dangerous hurricane when it hits land somewhere along the gulf coast. Damage will be widespread, and lives will be lost.

Horribly selfishly, it seems that our cruise will benefit from this powerful storm. As the storm strengthens, winds will veer to southerly, and we'll have a very hot, muggy time on castaway cay.

There is a fly in the ointment.
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo_atl.shtml

Item 1 on the satellite map is very likely to strengthen. The front to the north was not strong enough to suck #1 north toward the US mid-atlantic coast. Its too early to tell where #1 will go.

I thought #1 would turn north, and that is still most likely. Yesterday, I gave it a 20% chance of affecting castaway cay. Today, I officially raise that to 40%. Still less than likely, but not at all out of the realm of possibility.

Oddly, if Gustav gains strength quickly, and turns a little to the north, and slows down a bit, southerly winds would affect #1 and push it north of our destinations.

So, I ask you, is it okay to wish Gustav strength and power in order to preserve our fun?

So, I ask you, is it okay to wish Gustav strength and power in order to preserve our fun?

I'm going to vote no, because I'd like to have a home to come to when this is all over. I don't wish a hurricane or TS to ruin our cruise, but I'll take some wind and rain if necessary, and if it means that Gustav will continue more westward instead of turning north. I hope that he doesn't go north because it's those waters that will make him strong, and well, my state that he'd be heading for. If he stays west he will stay weak, and maybe Mexico can just have a nasty storm, but nothing catastrophic.

That is what I have been thinking also! Our 5 days for lives destroyed and homes lost. I am going to pray for those in his path and pack the Bonine! If I can find it! Checked a second store today and no one has the no drowsy formula. Guess I will have to give up on the mass merchandisers and go to a drug store.

Well, the laptop hard drive is gone. That means all the ressie numbers and all have disapeared. I am emailing to get the info so I can access stuff again. The desk top in the basement is functioning but the last thing I wanted to do was spend $1000 before our cruise on a computer! Maybe I will wait until I get back!!!!:badpc:

Finally08 and Laxmom I am so sorry that you have this headed your way.:sad2:

I just checked noaa.gov and it does indeed look like it can hit anywhere in LA to the panhandle of FL.

Hopefully the forecast will be off on this one just like it was off on Fay. A few days out from landfall, Fay was projected to be a direct hit (as a hurricane) to the Tampa Bay area. I had that dread thing going on that was so common in 2004. It really is a terrible feeling. (You probably have it now)

As we all know, she NEVER made it to hurricane. We got minimal rain in this area and really didn't see any rain until after she crossed the state and headed back out to the gulf. So much for projections!

It does look like you're going to get something but hopefully it won't bloom into anything larger than a TS.

Keeping my fingers crossed so that you get to enjoy this cruise and not have to worry about home.

I didn't mean Laxmom!

I meant Disneysweetie.

But Laxmom-sorry to hear about your computer!

Oh I feel confident our home will be safe, just can't say that for people a little south of me. We are about 90 miles from New Orleans, so not right on the coast. Hurricanes usually mean a lot of downed trees, some flooding, and loss of power for a few days. In our case our neighborhood is a newer one where all trees were wiped out, so there's nothing to threaten us in that dept.
We actually had a tornado go through our neighborhood back in May that caused us more damage that Katrina ever did (about 25k worth). So hurricanes don't scare me too much for my own sake,...but I feel for everyone else.

Allsssooo...we have to drive along the coast to get to PC, so we are supposed to be on the road for about 11 hours on Sunday. If this thing is headed our way we'll have to leave early...no way will I chance my life DRIVING through a hurricane/TS for that amount of time!
