What is this ride? I hate thrill rides and anything that will resemble a thrill ride so if that ride is like that I won't go on. Thanks!

It is not a thrill ride at all. It is very slow moving. You do go down it backwards though, but again very slowly. I don't think you will have a problem with it.

Spaceship earth is not a thrill ride. It is very slow moving and goes through a history of communication. Don't get confused with Mission Space though. I've ridden it 3 times and gotten sick all three times (although I've never gotten sick on any other ride ever).

It is a very slow moving ride that takes you through the history of communication. It features lots of animatronics. It is NOT a thrill ride at all, but it is very interesting to see. Parts of it are in pretty dark areas, and the ride vehicles do turn backwards for their "descent" so if you are claustrophobic or afraid of the dark you may not wish to ride. Otherwise I would recommend it. It is classic EPCOT.

We rode it 3 times in a row this past summer when all three of our little boys (9 months, 2 1/2, and 5 years old)fell asleep on it. :rotfl:

:rotfl2: Gave me a good laugh at the thought of this being a thrill ride. If this is a thrill ride, i would hate to see what the relaxing ride is compared to it. :confused3

SUCH A GREAT RIDE. A really good show of Disney magic and imagineering. You will thouroughly enjoy it.

Spaceship Earth

Year Opened: 1982

Fun Fact: At 165 feet in diameter, if you wanted to use Spaceship Earth as a golf ball, you would need to stand 2 miles tall!

The Epcot Center landmark, Spaceship Earth, is a geosphere. Because nothing like Spaceship Earth existed before, this term was "invented" by the Imagineers to describe it. This giant "golf ball" is 180'high, 165' in diameter, and is no lightweight at 16 million pounds. This is one ball that won't roll away though, its' supports are sunk between 120' and 185' into the ground. Narrated by Jeremy Irons, the ride inside this man-made spectacle is sponsored by AT&T and showcases the history and future of communication. It starts with the Cro-Magnon man, visits a Phoenician scene, shows the importance of the Roman roads, Benedictine monks reproducing religious manuscripts, the Renaissance period, and continues on to electricity, the telegraph, telephone, radios, television and motion pictures, up to computers and possibilities that the near future may hold.

Typical of Disney's incredible attention to detail, guests will see some amazingly detailed Audio-animatronics and notice the musty smell that starts at the beginning of the ride, and later as Rome burns, smell the smoke. The hieroglyphics are authentic and many of the period pieces are reproductions of originals. Walt Disney Imagineering collaborated with science fiction writer Ray Bradbury and consulted with the Smithsonian Institute, the University of Southern California and the University of Chicago to attain the authenticity and detail that they are known for. This fast loading ride is more popular with adults than with children.

As guests complete the 17 minute ride and disembark from their time-machine vehicles, they continue on into the Global Neighborhood Exhibit. This interactive communication playground features the newest in communication technology with displays such as video telephones. Spaceship Earth is a major attraction that has long line-ups often from early in the day because it is the first thing guests see as they enter the park. TIP: The best times to ride this are later in the afternoon or just before closing. Guest in wheelchairs must be able to transfer from their wheelchairs.

FUN FACTS: If you wanted to use Spaceship Earth as a golf ball, you would need to stand 1.2 miles tall!

Cast members can actually go to the TOP of the dome…there is an elevator that goes all the way to the top. When you’re at the top of the ride you can actually see the hatch that goes onto the roof.

HIDDEN MICKEYS: Check out the cap and the clock in the scene in the boy’s room, and the star constellations.

TRY IT

My 59 yo mom rode it with us & she rides nothing scary, fast, etc.
It is by no means a thrill ride. It's nice & slow..kind of relaxing.
You will like it.

I love Spaceship Earth. It's such a classic EPCOT attraction. Not a thrill ride, but like others have said it is a bit claustrophobic at times. If you try it, enjoy it!

Not a thrill ride at all. Its very slow moving and relaxing too. As mentioned before, it takes you through the history of communication through the ages. I never miss it.

I was afraid to go on this ride for many visits because I get sick very easy, but once I rode it I love it and always ride it a couple of times every visit.
