Space shuttle launch

potentially dangerous hydrogen gas leak cropped up as NASA fueled Discovery for liftoff Friday, resulting in yet another delay for the space shuttle's final voyage -- possibly until the end of the month.

Space shuttle managers and engineers will meet at 11 a.m. (11/5/10) EDT to discuss the work necessary to repair a gaseous hydrogen leak and prepare space shuttle Discovery for its next launch attempt.

The earliest opportunity is Monday, Nov. 8, at 12:53 p.m. EST, the last date Discovery can launch in this window. The next launch window for Discovery is Tuesday, Nov. 30 through Saturday, Dec. 5.

At this time, Monday November 8 launch looks very doubtful. We will know more after today.

Next launch attempt set for November 30TH at 4:05PM. I guess we will be back then.

The culprit is a leak in the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate -- or GUCP. The GUCP allows gaseous hydrogen to vent the flare stack where the excess is burned off as a safety measure.

Better safe than sorry.

Ih agree better safe than sorry. I posted the time wrong its am not pm Ugh

They have found a 4th crack:scared1: on the external tank but have not mentioned the impact on the launch date of Nov 30th. I will post info when I get it.:surfweb:

NASA has updated the date and time:
"The Kennedy Space Center “Call-to-Stations” to begin the launch countdown will be no earlier than Nov. 30, supporting a first launch attempt no earlier than Dec. 3 at about 2:52 a.m. EST."

This is like having a bad dream you just can't wake up from:lmao: The shuttle launch is now changed to 12-17 @8:52pm will I ever get to see it:sad2:popcorn::

People in the know think the Dec. launch is a stretch. Probably Feb.

I agree that they are pushing it with a December launch. I think that this will take the place of the STS 134 launch that was scheduled for Feb. 24th.

Feb works great for me:love: , we come down every Feb (Anniversary:hug:) I just want everything to go safely. I guess we will wait and seepopcorn::

I live 2 hours south of the center and try an make it up to every launch i can. I would like to see it go on the 17 since it will be a night launch. They are awesome to see. It really lights that place up.

and i would not be suprised to see that date move. If it goes i will be there for the night launch.
