Space shuttle launch

We are going to be at Magic Kingdom on Nov 2nd, and in the Melbourne area over Halloween weekend...planning to spend the day at the beach on the 1st so we have a great view of the launch! I can't wait...its been years since I have seen one!

Have ressies at Cali Grill that evening - will they let us up there early to see the launch, or will we need to see it from the beach?

I don't have the time to go out to Tallahassee, or I would :(

Ho hum, another shuttle launch. What's on TV? Just kidding. I make a point of watching all the shuttle launches. I'm lucky to have seen most of them from my front yard. The best one though was when John Glenn went up. I was working at the GF at the time and the whole place shut down. We all went out by the lake and watched it go up. It was a mild, sunny, clear day and hundreds, if not thousands, of guests and CMs were out there watching it. What a memory.
I saw that one from my front yard in Bradenton. (Okay - the shuttle was tiny but you could see it.) I watched it on TV & then ran outside to view it. I was crying and shouting "There he goes! God bless you. God's speed," to no one but myself. It was a very emotional launch for me because I have vivid memories of John Glenn going into space back in 1962 as the first American to orbit the earth. We all gathered around the TV to watch it. After that day our local ABC affiliate in Buffalo, Channel 7, launched their morning children's show named: "Rocketship 7", after John Glenn's capsule, Friendship 7.

NASA has given official approval to launch on Monday Nov 1ST at 4:40 EDT:3dglasses. So I guess we will be at the Fort Friday!

I've seen many posts about viewing shuttle launches from FW beach. In what general direction does one need to look? Straight out from the dock? Toward the Contemporary? Or??

We added one more night to our stay at FW so we could venture out to see the launch. I have seen them from a distance in the past but my DS has never seen any of them. What a shame since we live in Florida. (bad mommy!!):confused3

We were going to stay at the Fort an extra night to see the launch but I see now that it's pushed back to the 2nd. Too bad. :(

Why would you go to Tallahassee?

I believe that STS-133 has been pushed back to Nov. 2nd 4:17pm, subject to change.

Darn!

DH has the first off, not the second. Guess we will have our fingers crossed that they don't move the next (last) launch and he keeps his normal days off that week.

The Shuttle is delayed again!
According to NASA launch is now scheduled for Wednesday, November 3rd at 3:52 pm EDT. While weather is not issue at this point there is a chance of low cloud ceiling and a chance of isolated showers on launch day. DH, who works for NASA, stated that Thursday is the last day of the launch window. If it doesn't go off by then it will have to be rescheduled for February.

Thanks to everyone who has been keeping the updates posted. We arrived Friday and it has been a Crazy trip. I apologize for failing . I missed meeting everyone.

Launch moved to Thursday at 3:29 and they will be having a press confrence at 6:30 tonight. I personally don't think this one is going to happen. They have a window until Sat the 7TH but it is electrical issues now and the weather is looking bad. I guess I better start making my Feb ressies:confused3

This would be a great thing for us because we are not due to arrive until the 4th, :woohoo:, but this will be our third time we have been in the area at the time of a shuttle launch and have missed the other two due to delays, so we know how everyone who will not be able to see it go up feels, so for that we feel bad. We will keep our fingers crossed that the third time will be the charm for us. Either way, just being at Disney is what we have been counting the days for:cool1:.

I have not been updating like I should because I figured we wete the only ones left still waiting. it has been scrubbed again this morning due to another hydrogen leak I don't know if they will reschedule or wait til December. I will post when I find out.
