Space Mountain Rehab

I'm glad that Space Mountain is officially going for a rehab, I think that it was about time. Practically everytime we wanted to ride it, it would break down. Unfortunatly, these rehabs cannot please everyone. I am very sorry if it will be shut down while other DISERS who love it are vacationing at WDW.

We are not going next year, so there is no need to worry (we never even rode it on our last trip. The line is always LONG)

Closes 3 days before I get there....waahhhh. Any chance it will be late getting started?

Me too! Looks like we're both going at the same time. I'm crossing my fingers that its delayed by 4 days or more. Think Pixie Dust!

But seriously - in the past how firm have the start dates been?

I don't see what would delay the start of rehab. The dates might change, but I don't see why they would (again). I'm sorry if im not helpful, but im just stating what I believe might be true.Disney is pretty firm when it comes to dates for rehabs im pretty sure.

Good Luck and Have a Magical Vacation!

I am going the week after it closes and I am FINE with it. Space Mtn needs some love and it looks like Disney is going to give it some!

I have collected some rumors on various sites...take it for what it is worth.. a rumor!! Grain of salt here people. :rolleyes1

-Projected 10 month rehab
- The refurb will inclue load station gates and rockets with easier to use lap bar pedals.
-Some CM's on other boards who operate SM say that the tracks definitely have much wear and tear. One rumor I read was that a track had already been ordered.
-The load area will be enclosed so you cannot see the ride area, but there will be star effects on the new load ceiling.
-New rocket trains with audio soundtrack will make an appearance (they will still be single seaters like the current ones).
-Digital projections will be placed in the ride area (there are already a few currently in place) with some new effects.
-The entire track will be replaced with new higher guaged steel, but the layout WILL NOT change - this includes new brakes and conveyors of course, and new main lift chain.
-Slight re-themeing of the unload area to make you feel like you truly just pulled into a space port.
-The post show area is still up for debate - it may change or stay the same....
-The queue will be the same, but updated with new projections.
-No major changes, just some "plussing"/TLC.
-There was supposed to be an 18 month huge refurb, but due to budget cuts it is now 6-9 mos with some original expenses called off.
-They are adding a loop...just kidding.

Gotta love the internet!! It is fun to speculate though! Time will tell. I just hope it holds a candle to the DLR version! :thumbsup2

At least it'll be open through April 19- still gives me three months to ride it!

I like the one at DL better. So hopefully they well make this one better. Hopfully it well be back up over Thanksgiving.

Yayyyy! I am so happy we will be able to ride it a few more times before it changes!

Now, here's hoping that it will be reopened before December 6, 2009!

This ride definately needs a refurb... but I'm glad to see their NOT actually changing the track layout/design.

I also heard that they were going to take a queue from DL's, adding audio into the cars themselves to help create two different riding experiences for day and night.

Indeed bummed about the closure for our trip... I always question how huge refurbs like this affect crowds in the park!

Why has no-one yet mentioned the single biggest, most worrying affect this refurb will have??? :confused3

Our beloved Stacey wont be able to go on about the "TRIPLE MOUNTAIN WHAMMY!" and go "WHAM WHAM WHAM!" in the top ride listing video :sad2:

:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Bummer..compared to my local theme park Space Mountain was very smooth. I understand needing to keep things safe but am bummed we will miss out. That was a fave.

ReSearch! has informed me that the currently posted end date for the refurb is 11/21. I'd take that with a grain of salt however since 10 1/2 months is a long way to project.

It also says TTA will be closed 5/1 - 8/31

I'd really expect TTA's closure to be longer (maybe even equal to Space's), but that's what it's currently telling me (but the dates starting on the 1st of one month and ending on the 31st of another is suspicious).

Yeah, id be shocked if the tta isnt closed for a long while also.
In all honestly, i think it too will probably be down for 90% of Spaces refurb.
But, we'll see.

:rotfl2:

That was hilarious....

I am so happy that I will be able to ride one last time before the refurb, it is one of my all time favorite rides at WDW. This year my DD7 is wanting to ride with me, which is good because my DH does not really care for the ride so he and my DD5 will probably be going on Buzz while we are SM.

ok... another update... TTA is in fact scheduled to close 4/19.. I guess I was ahead of Disney on this one. and re-opening is August 20.

Looks like in the future, I may not find myself offworld. Hopefully the new version of the ride is improved enough to make up for all the nostalgia the ride will lose.

If they do similar rehab to what they did at DL it will be well worth the wait. My DW and DD went to DL in 2007 and said the new version of Space Mtn there is so much better.

for one, DLR's was re-built from scratch. DLR's took about 2 years to complete (it probably doesn't help that DLR's is sunk into the ground too). of course, that was just one of the changes. visuals, vehicle changes (including the ability to load a disability-accessible car off track and shift it on track), soundtrack changes, internal lighting were another (so much for Rockit Mountain).

there's been little talk best i can figure as to what's really being done with WDW's Space, but it bears keeping in mind that Space at WDW has a lot more in common with the Matterhorn than it does Space at DLR. at least for now.

For the folks asking if the re-hab will start earlier - I would say the answer to that is "NO"...they are obviously purposefully waiting until the end of the Easter holidays to start the rehab. I also seriously doubt they would delay construction. It will close on the date stated. The end date is another question - as these things are never clear-cut....again they are probably hoping for a christmas 2009 opening at worst, though I'm sure they would prefer it to be open for Thanksgiving as well.

I am all for the refurb, even if it is not open for our Dec 2009 trip. I only hope that DW still likes it, as she is NOT a roller coaster girl, but loves SpaceM.

Forget Disneyland, I want a launch start like the one in Paris:thumbsup2 I'm sure that's unlikely and that the version we will get will be more like Cali, but still a guy can dream;)

The one in DLRP is awesome, the launch is so smooth and then straight into a loop.

2 months till I ride it again!
