Space Mountain Rehab

Thank goodness we finally have confirmation of it's rehab. Although I'm sad it won't be operational while we are there in June, I'm glad it's being done! My DD5 will finally be tall enough to ride it when it reopens! :)

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :yay: :yay: :yay: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Finally! This is FANTASTIC news! Here's hoping they can make it more like the refurbished amazing ride at Disneyland!

I am sooooo excited

With the rehab scheduled for only 7 or so months, it will not be anything like the one at DLR. That rehab was a complete replacement of the ride within the building. This WDW rehab sounds like an updating of the theming inside the building, with probably an overhaul of the exisiting roller coaster.

The timeframe given is simply not long enough to remove the exisiting coaster, build the new one and get "bugs" worked out.

:surfweb: I read on another board that space mountain was left out of the 2009 Disney vacation dvd which was taken as "evidence" that the rehab was gonna begin this year?

:confused3 anyone know if this is true? anyone seen the new DVD sans space mountain?

We are up in the air regarding a 2009 trip and without a big discount (we are summer attendees) we will probably wait till 2010. Space mountain rehab would be a another nail in the coffin of an 09 tirp

On the other hand, one of the reasons the Disneyland refurb took so long as I understand it is that it was an unplanned, sudden repair job. Thus, it took time to draw up the plans before any work could be done. Presumably, if the goal is to make the track similar to the one at DL, the plans are already made up and actual work can start immediately.

By the dates noted, Space Mountain will be closed when we go to WDW in May. No loss for us as we don't ride SM anyway. Infortunately, TTA will most likely be closed as well (we love taken a break in the afternoon on the TTA), and with SM closed, that will most likely increase the waits for SM and BTR as well.

Not a problem, Guzzi. I'll just merge this thread into the other one. :thumbsup2

The Space Mountain rehab is now listed on the DIS's rehab page.

:)

Well, there we go! "4/19/2009-late 2009" is after my trip -- 1st trip back in years and looking forward to riding my old fave! Hoping it won't stop on an incline, but I love that mountain.

We are going there April 9- 18th so :cool1: Hopefully they don't decide to start work early.

That is true.

I'll also reconsider my previous post...it is possible, though unlikely, to tear down and remove the current coaster, build a brand-new one in it's place, update the theming and de-bug the whole thing in 8 months. New coaster's are built from scratch in 4-5 months including site prep, so this timeframe may be possible for WDW.

We'll see.popcorn:: <- OMG! Does that little popcorn guy eat his arm, too?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We also love the TTA and hopefully they'll just put up some nice screens or something to block what is going on in SM and still have the TTA up and running. Paging Mr. Morrow... Mr. Tom Morrow....

Phew! knew it was coming just glad (sorry) it's after President's week.

Sounds like a plan to me. :thumbsup2 We love the TTA and usually rida that quite a few times each trip.

Glad to hear the news. We were thinking about a quick trip in May. This is DD's most favorite attraction at MK. At least now I can brace her for it being closed.

SM goes down in Jan., then SM goes back up in Jan. and SM goes down in April but that's OK because we don't ride SM very much, but love SM and are glad its going to be up.

Guess that clears things up.
;)

There was an indication that generally the TTA will not be affected. However, there are possibilities that the TTA may have short-duration closes when construction work will be very close to the track.
