Space Mountain Rehab

Don't forget Monster's Inc Laugh Floor and the Carousel of Progress.

Oh, yeah, we didn't do Monster's Inc. last time - need to do that this time. I don't think the COP was open last time we went (May). I really enjoyed that when I went years ago, so hopefully it will be open!

Well I was hoping they would leave the People Mover open (I refuse to call it TTA) to see SM with the lights on again, but it makes sense they would have it down as well. I know the People Mover isnt the most popular ride in the park, but I'm suprised they would want to displace guests from not one, but two rides at once.

I'm really excited about this! I have heard only good things about the SM in DL, so I'm hoping to see the same thing at MK. I have as much nostalgia about SM as the next person, but I'm looking forward to the future. The only thing I'll really, really miss is the star tunnel music in the queue line, but I have it on my ipod, so I could always put in my ear buds while in line and pretend nothing changed! ;)

OT question - is People Mover still a Disney trademark? Not too long ago at work we developed an employee career development / job growth plan and called it the "people mover" in honor of the old Disney ride name... "have fun, go places, learn something"

Gonna miss Space big time this summer.....I totally understand the need for the rehab, however, I'm afraid of how much bigger those lines for Splash and Big Thunder will be this Aug. We go Aug every year, and when Space Mtn is open, the lines are 90-120 min long by noon for the Mountains. I'm afraid to think how long the lines will be now that Space will be closed ! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I am very disappointed at this news. I'm taking the family to WDW this June for their first trip (and our first trip to a Disney park in almost 10 years). If the rehab can be completed in 7 - 8 months, WHY in the world would they do this during the peak summer months??? They could close it in September and have it ready by Spring.

Now it appears that two 'E' tickets in MK will be closed in June (Space Mountain and Hall of Presidents).

Took a long time to decide to invest in a WDW vacation instead of Disneyland, and it will be a long time before I can return to WDW. Guess I have really bad timing. Just finally booked my trip a week ago, but if I had known this I would definitely have postponed until 2010.

Anybody know if there's any chance Hall of Presidents could re-open early?

Because Thanksgiving through New Years is just as busy and maybe more so then summer. Rarely in summer do you see park closings, but you do get them during the holiday period. Thus it was decided to close it during the lesser of the two evils, summer. No matter what dates they had chosen it would have been during a busy part of the year.

Exactly. It is important to understand that sometimes rides just need to be closed during our visits whether it is for simple upkeep or serious maintenance. From things I have read by people (who at least claim to) operate SM at WDW, the ride is in much need of more than just cleaning and cosmetic updates. In the end, we will hopefully have a much better riding experience...that is safer and ready for many more years ahead. I am there when it is closed, and I will be exploring other areas of the park. Plus, it gives me something to look forward to on the NEXT trip.

On the timing of the rehab, I can see why summer would seem a crazy time to do it -- but as PP alluded, summer has advantages for WDW to manage flow due to the parks being open so much later than in other seasons. It is typical to have MK open until midnight in the summer -- but often only in the 7-10pm range in fall and winter. While there are tons more people, particularly in the heat of the day, the longer park hours help spread it out, and spread people around. Plus, given the confines of the time space continuum, they have to do it sometime -- inevitably making someone unhappy. Unlike 10 years ago, at least you will now have EE and RnR for coaster action while Space is down. Not the same, but some consolation.

Our family is extremely dissapointed to hear that SM will be closed when we visit this Summer. Last year was the first time that both of our DS's (6 and 7) got up the courage to ride and of course it quickly became their favorite! However, I'm just as excited to see what changes are made. I hope they don't change too much of the theming as it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. Oh well, gives our family another excuse to go back in Summer 2010! If I lived through the HM and PoC rehabs, I can make it through this (...I hope!):thumbsup2

Yeah, I understand that there's no good time for this…and one rehab won't ruin the vacation. Still a bit down about it, though. I'd been following the news about Space Mountain rehab since last year, and kept expecting to hear about a closure through 2009. My older son *really* wants to go on Space Mountain, and since we rarely get family vacations I wanted to time things so he would get to ride it. Figured on a 2010 WDW trip to follow the rehab.

Then the rehab kept getting delayed, and delayed again, until it looked like they had missed the probable window for this year. When they offered the 4-and-3 discount, I decided to take it since by that point it looked like the rehab was more likely to hit in 2010. Then a week later this is announced. Didn't expect them to start a major e-ticket rehab at the beginning of summer.

Ah well, enough whining. I guess that's the breaks. We'll still have a good time.

I have to say i am gutted we will be there Feb 2010 and obv won't get to ride it .. It is mine and my DD's fave ride .. Such a shame :sad1:

Sorry just reread the first post and realise it says will reopen late 2009 .. so am a lot happier .. sorry to all of you who will miss it and i have my fingers crossed that it will definitely be open when we go

personally, i love the ride exactly as it is now. the jerkiness adds to the thrill factor and i love having no one next to me. i also like the fact that it is quiet. it makes screaming more fun! a rehab will just bring more crowds to an already crowded ride. i hope to ride it once more before it closes, but as of right now i have no planned trips before april...

Oh i'm pissed this will most likely be closed for our trip the end of August! I love this ride and was looking forward fo rmy younger son to get to ride it! Maybe it will be completed earlier than expected!!!!
