Southwest luggage ?

Hi we are a family of 4 kids 16 & 12 & we always have them each have there own suitcase plus us parents have one carry on...

It is true that on Southwest we can have 2 luggage a piece or does the carry on count?

As coming home we always seem to have more with things we buy thinking it might be easier to have an extra suitcase then all of the extra bags we buy
