After I booked my trip, the price dropped and I locked it in for the new price... I was told by someone on this board that I would be able to use the difference to pay for another flight at some point. How can I find out what my total is or how do I do that when booking a new flight?

On the SW site, under travel tools, you can view your funds under the Travel Fund Balance section. You will need the confirmation number and passenger name to do this. When you enter this information in, you will see your balance and the expiration date of the funds. You must complete your travel by that expiration date.

When purchasing a new airfare, there will be section before the credit card option that allows you to enter the confirmation number in order to apply the funds.

Your new flight must be completed one year after the old one was booked. i.e. book in Nov 2011 for a flight in March 2012. New trip using the credit must be before Nov 2012. You can also call Southwest at anytime to find out the credit amount and expiration. Credits are not transferable.
