Southwest: Applying Philly promo code to existing reservation

Southwest has a promo code for trips to/from Philly throughout the summer -- basically its 10% off their 'Wanna Get Away' fares (the code is GOPHILLIES).

I see how to apply it when creating a new reservation, but I don't see how to apply it to an existing reservation. When I pull up the existing reservation and modify, I get to pick the times, etc., but don't see anywhere to put the Promo Code and the promo price doesn't show up. Do I get an opportunity to put it in after clicking 'Continue' on the 'I accept the fare rules and want to continue with this purchase' or does the Promo code apply only to new reservations?

Answering my own question: After googling around, it seems that SW Promo codes are not applicable to existing reservations. (In my case, I had reservations booked with the Philly code and wanted to change the time of one of the flights. Can't do it. When I went to enter the new flight time, the promo code didn't carry thru and there was no way to enter it.)

So, I got around it by creating a new reservation with the promo code, then opening a second window to cancel my original, then going back to the original window, applying the funds from the cancellation.

Did you use this code to fly from Philly to someplace other than what is listed on their website?

Philadelphia - Boston Logan (BOS)
Philadelphia - Providence (PVD)
Philadelphia - Manchester (MHT)

Thanks
Donna

Yes, I also used it for PHL to/from MCO. But, it doesn't matter now; the last day of the promotion was yesterday.

Oh no! I was going to try to book my very first Southwest flight today. And I just stumbled on this thread - I can't believe I missed a good promo by one day! drat!

Jen, don't give up yet. Yes, the promo is over, but the fares aren't too bad right now. Of course it depends on your dates, but PHL-MCO seems to be about $98 one way right now, which is very competitive against the big carriers and about the same as the AirTrans and Spirits of the world.

Remember, with Southwest you can book your flight, then keep watching the price. If it goes down, you don't get a refund, but you can modify your reservation and have a credit that you have to use within a year.

I booked our September flight out of Philly yesterday using the promo code. According to the email I received the code is good until Thursday. Heard on the local news that all airfares are up over last year, airfare to MCO is up 53%. Last year we paid $59 each way and I was hoping for close to that this year. There are fewer flights this year and the fare has come down from $115 to $98 and then 10% off with the code. I didn't want to wait any more for lower fares as I don't think they will be much lower so we went ahead and booked. I will keep checking their site and if the price goes down I'll ask for a credit voucher.

How do you find out about Southwest promos?:confused3

In my case, I just happened to luck into it this time. I've been keeping an eye out on the late August schedules since Southwest posted them a little over two weeks ago. My flight times originally went up as $105 on release date, then down to $98 earlier this week, plus the Philly 10% promo, so they were $89. (As an aside, I almost went for a $62 AirTran was running out of Allentown, but by the time you add in their baggage and seat fees, you're in the same ballpark...and AirTran is getting really bad about changing flight times)

I am with you about AirTran changing the schedule. I am only about 20 mins from ABE. I say some of those $62 AirTran fares, but I am really afraid of the way they change their schedule. I like my nonstops on Southwest out of PHL. And you are right, till you add the fees, the price is pretty close to the same. I pay about the same to park at Winner near PHL as I would to park at ABE
