South Beach Dieters......... Unite

WOOHOO! I got on the scale this morning and I've already lost 5 lbs! I'm not even done with the first week. This is so exciting. I'm not craving anything. I've got more energy then I know what to do with and I feel great. Yay me! :cheer2:

Karen, welcome to the SB thread. All those symptoms are very common during the detox weeks. I would think you could go to phase 2 early, if weight loss isn't your main goal. You may need a vitamin as well. Are you eating the 3 meals plus snacks?? You may need to eat more often to stabilize your blood sugar. I tend to have low blood pressure and I get hypoglycemic if I don't eat several small meals. This actually helps my metabolism and weight loss. And I have kept my caffeine in my morning coffee with no ill effects to the diet. That helps, too.
Hang in there, eventually you will be full of energy once you purge the toxins and reset your metabolism.

Melissa - thank you -

So that is what my body is doing - purging toxins - Must have had a lot then!

I have not taken vitamins the last couple of days - On the SB webite, it says you do not need to because you are eating so healthy- I thought it was a strange statement - I will take some today and see if that helps me -

I have been eating all my meals and snacks - What a difference that makes! I really don't feel hungary on this diet - and when I do, It's snack time!

Thanks for the motivation - I will keep on going in phase 1 then -

Mary-Congrats on the 5 lb weight loss! I think it took me to almost the end of week 2 before I saw results. Great job! Keep up the good work.

KaitlinsMom- welcome to the SBD thread. This is a great group of people who have lots of answers and can provide support and encouragement. I am in week 6 of SBD, and have more energy than ever before. Sometimes, I am motivated to do housecleaning at 9:00pm, which is very unusual for me. Hopefully you will get over the lethargy soon and start picking up energy.

Last nite I had to pick my daughter up at the airport at 11:00pm, and she wanted to stop at White Castle on the way home. I couldn't help myself, so I had a double burger. (only 1 though). It sure tasted good, but I'm mad that I went off plan, since I have been cheat free for 6 weeks. I'm back on target today, and will not let this one lapse derail my weight loss goals.

Hope everyone is having a good day on "the beach".:sunny:

Well, Beach goers - we are outta here. Two weeks at Fort Wilderness in the camper - hopefully we can stay on the South Beach track (but if we don't, well - we ARE on vacation) ;)

See ya'll when we get back. Stay motivated and enjoy life on the Beach.

If you see this Jerry, have a great vacation!

Leanne: thanks for the kudos. I can't believe how well this diet is going for me. I actually haven't cheated yet and I don't feel like I even want to. The true test will be this weekend when we are out and about. I'm still very determined to get to my goal by mid-July so I think all will be fine.

Hello all!

The post on the SB website actually got a reply! It said that since I am active physically - I should start at phase 2 - But I am glad that I did start at phase 1 - It really pointed out to me how much snacking I really do! By eating 3 meals and 2 snacks - I am actually full and not hungry! Therefore, I am not "grazing"

So far, so good!

Karen

:wave2: Hey everyone. I'm sitting here in my room at the Dolphin, and decided to see how everyone is. I'm having a little downtime. In two hours I go for a massage::yes:: DH is going to take care of the kids.

Wow, lot's of new people. Welcome. I hope you enjoy your time here. We really do a greaat job of offering support to one another.

I decided to weigh in while I was at the gym (nope I haven't worked out there:o too tired) I have lost 2 pounds while I've been here. Isn't that amazing!!!!!!!! I haven't had anything off plan yet, no sweets, no ice cream, no french fries or those evil, delicious rice krispy treats:teeth: So I guess that means I'm doing good. I'll be back Wednesday night, so keep up the good work

I think that's AMAZING that you have lost weight even while on vacation! Kudos to you for staying OP. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time.

I guess it is possible to lose weight at WDW. Though, those Rice Krispy treats are always tempting.

Can't wait for your trip report.

2 more pounds down for me this week. Looking forward to the new 15lb clippie

Hi to all the SBDers out there!

I'm back from my wonderfully but too short Disney trip with my sister. I stayed on plan the entire time and found some wonderful sugar free or n/s/a treats at both MK and Epcot. The week of June 6th (the day we left) I was down 2 pounds and this past Sunday (week of June 13) I'm down another 1/2 pound. I'm having heavy water retention at the moment and my wedding ring that is usually swirling around my finger and about to fall off is fairly snug so I know part of the reason I only lost 1/2 pound is TOM.

I worked out most days on vacation and tried to get in as much water as I could. I'm down a total of 64 pounds and am quite pleased with myself.

Welcome to the new Beachers! We are happy to have you with us! Everyone here is so friendly and helpful.

Jerry - I know you're gone but I hope you have a great trip!

Sheree - awesome job with the 2 pound pound weight loss girlie!!!! You keep it up and enjoy your time away with your family. Has it stopped raining down there yet? It rained on us every afternoon, to the point that we never got to use the pool. Oh well, next time.

Congrats to all that have reported a loss so far this week!

Ok, 2 months on South Beach and I have:

Lost 21 lbs, only 2 lbs to my original goal weight ( I have decided to take off another 5-10, but no real pressure. I am content.)

Grew over half an inch, thanks to Pilates.

Lost 11 inches total off my body.

I am soooooooo happy. My husband has lost over 20 as well, looks awesome.

Best of all, my IBS has been so much better on this eating plan. That is a miracle for me.

So off to Disney in a week and I am determined to stay OP and enjoy myself to the max. Thank you for all the support !

Congrats to everyone on the Beach!

Hello, all! Is there room for one more?

I've been doing Atkins since January, but have been stuck on a plateau for the longest time. I was considering going back to induction to get the weight loss kick-started, but I had also been looking into South Beach in the meantime, and I like what I've seen. It seems to me that Dr. Atkins' main concern was preventing diabetes, but that Dr. Agatston's focus is on a healthy heart, in addition to diabetes prevention. I read the book a couple of weeks ago, and I think I would have jumped on board earlier except that I was so down about having to do without butter and full-fat cheeses and the cream in my decaf. Honestly, it was a bigger mental hurdle than giving up bread and pasta and sweets when I began on Atkins!

But, I'm in this not just to lose weight but to improve my long-term health, and if that means switching to tea (low-fat milk in coffee was only palatable to me with about four spoonfuls of sugar), then so be it!

Anyway, there are decided benefits -- I started South Beaching it yesterday, and the ricotta creams are already rocking my world! Tonight is my first mocha ricotta cream -- mmm! I figure on sticking close to the meal plan in Phase 1 so as to work out the differences from the way I've been eating on Atkins, and then flow with it.

Long post! Anyway, I'm about at the halfway point, weight-loss-wise, and I look forward to joining everyone on this continuing journey to better health!

Melissa - What an accomplishment! Way to go!!! - I didn't know pilates can make you taller - I need to look into that!

Zeraspride - Great job on your vacation - That is will power! And to exercise too - Fantastic!

Has anyones taste buds changed since being on SB? - Example - Diet Coke just does not taste the same to me anymore! Certain foods just don't have it anymore like they use to - In some cases that is a good thing!

Melissa - congratulations on almost reaching your goal weight! That is just fantastic! I didn't know Pilates could make you taller either. I want to borrow my sister's DVD and I'm only 5' 3/4" so I can use all the high I can get. I do think my taste buds are changing too. I always have to have some check my diet soda at a restaurant because sometimes it's just too sweet to me and I think the waiter or waitress may have made a mistake. I definitely don't have the old food compulsions anymore. If I go through McD's drive thru for my son, I don't find myself mindless ordering food for myself or if I take him to the local donut shop, I can actually go inside and not be tempted by all the pastry. I used to have terrible acid reflux and haven't had an attack since the day I started SBD. This way of eating really rocks!

thotfulspot - we always have room for one more on the Beach! Welcome to you!!!!! I'm sure you'll find this way of eating satisfying and since you were already on Atkins, it wouldn't be such a culture shock to you or your body! :)

KaitlinsMom - thanks for the support! It wasn't as hard to stay OP as I thought it would be. It's funny, I never thought I could stick with this program for so long. I actually didn't think I'd make it through the first two weeks of Phase 1 and here I am going strong at 6-1/2 months. I truly do enjoy this way of eating and don't even view it as a diet anymore.

I know I have found that I do not crave bread or potatoes anymore. I may get a sweet tooth but I can find something OP to handle it. I tried to have full fat cheese the other day and WHOA, way to rich for me now. The real test is that I don't crave Krispy Kremes anymore. I just love this eating plan, I refuse to say DIET anymore because I would do this even if I never lose another plan. I just feel so much better.

I NEED fruit!!!!!!! I'm on week 2. I have no idea if I'm losing since I don't have a scale and I keep forgetting to measure myself. I THINK my clothes are looser, but it could just be wishful thinking!

I don't miss anything other than fruit and my inclination is to stay on Phase One until I notice a difference!

I'm not following the meal plans, I more or less just eat what I want and remove all of things they say not to eat - like FRUIT!!!!

I actually ate peanuts for breakfast this morning because I don't think I can handle another egg.

I'm still not sure if I'm doing it right - eggs in the morning (not sure how many since I get them scrambed from the firm cafeteria); salad for lunch - sometimes chef salad, sometimes salad bar where I make a lovely mixture of cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes and broccoli; chicken and a vegetable for dinner and a little peanut butter for dessert to help my sweet tooth. I don't snack, I'm just not hungry enough. I drink so much water, I am in the bathroom every 20 minutes!! I walk 30 minutes a day to work and do some strength training with weights at home. What gives?? I think I expected my clothes to be falling off me by now! I think they're looser, but I don't know!! I'm feeling very discouraged and I really just want some grapes - and maybe a Caramel Macchiato!!!

Get some sugar free Popsicles. They will get you through your fruit cravings. Just one more week! You can do it!!

Melissa

I've looked at some sugar-free stuff, but I can't have sobitol and it seems like EVERYthing sugar-free has sorbitol in it! I got so excited about the Ben & Jerry's ice cream with Splenda and there it was - sorbitol!!

I know...I can go another week without fruit. But, I can't eat any more eggs. I need some new Phase One breakfast ideas.

AllyandJack - first off, cut yourself some slack. You are doing great! It's only been 1 week. How much weight do you have to lose? I know that I didn't feel like I saw too much of a difference my first week but I had actually dropped 11 pounds. I felt absolutely no different. My clothes didn't even fit different. After Phase 1 I had lost 3 more pounds so a total of 14 pounds but I can't say I felt smaller or that my clothes were loose. I would say that by the end of the first month when I was down about 20 pounds that I started noticing a difference. If you can just make it through one more week, then you can have your fruit back. You can do it, I know you can! Btw, I didn't follow the meal plans either. I just used the foods to enjoy and foods to avoid list when making food choices. I know you said you're craving that carmel Macchiatto, what about a skinny bou from Caribou coffee? I had one and it really hit the spot. Don't forget we are all pulling for you! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Melissa - I agree with you. I call this my eating plan and look at it as I'll be eating this way for life. I've often said that even if I don't lose another pound that I would still eat this way because of how terrific I feel. People say things to me like I can eat "normally" again when I get to goal. I always say this is my normal way of eating. :teeth:

Thanks for the support everyone!:D

My goal is to get back into my size 12 clothes that are collecting dust in my closet. I'm an 18 now. I have lots of 14/16 clothes in my closet, too!!

I don't miss pasta or bread or anything along those lines - junk food, etc. So, I think I can eat like this forever. But, if I don't see a difference by the end of July, I may give up hope!

I definitely notice a difference in the way I feel. I have colitis and have had a lot less problems since I started eating this way. I no longer feel the need to take a nap after every meal. I no longer get my 3pm Swedish Fish craving or my 9pm ice cream craving. I no longer just throw some pasta in water for a quick dinner or get a pizza. I don't want french fries anymore either. I do miss cereal and milk though....not as much as fruit!

I want to be back in my little clothes by my September/October trip - maybe 30-40 pounds to go down from 18 to 12? That way, I can have fun and, if I gain 5 pounds, I'll just go back to Phase One and take it off.

I'll tell ya though....I wouldn't have lasted this long if it wasn't for the encouragement (of myself and the others here) and the posting of results that I see here! It keeps me going to think that my goal of being in my really cute shorts by my trip is possible. :grouphug:
