No effence but I saw some adults play VMK and I knew I saw somewhere that it was for kids under 14. (I'm 12) So can someone clear that up for me and if your an adult can you tell me why you play?

OK, I'll answer that. All ages play VMK. There are many of us adults here. Some play with their kids to help keep them safe. Some play because we were asked to test the game out in the Beta stage of game testing.

I am really old, lol. :rotfl2: But started playing as a Beta tester and made so many friends (both kids and old folks) that it became my favorite place to be.

I think that both kids and adults can enjoy playing the game and learning from eachother, and helping eachother out. That is what I find so special about this particular game. It appeals to so very many age groups.

So, have fun and don't judge us just because we are "ancient"

I play because it's fun. I have as much right to be there as anyone. I'm a stay at home mom so I don't really have anything better to do. hehe
Also, one of my good (also adult) friends got me into it, and it's great way to hang out with her even though I can't in person, and it's the closest I'm going to get to going to a Disney park in a long time. :)

There are lots of big kids here!
Heck, Disneyland is 51!
There were lots of people who have the magic in them even back then. Maybe they just didn't lose it!
:)

Aren't we all just kids at heart? I get told all the time to grow up ;)

As Peacefully said, it's a fun way to meet up with your friends who you wouldn't normally get to see. There is always AIM, but what better setting to chat in than Magic Kingdom itself.

The following was copied directly from the "About VMK" page that can be accessed from the VMK Home page:
"...VMK may be designed for 8-14 year olds, but Disney fans of all ages will have a blast. No matter how old you are, you'll discover something fun in the game..."

You took the words right out of my mouth. VMK is designed for kids...and that's what we are. We're all a bunch of big kids. That's what Disney is all about...keeping the inner child alive in all of us 'old folk'... ;)

I was thinking about this also. I do find this interesting about the ages of your/my friends. I have some 12-13ish friends. Some 10ish kind also. But mostly pre-teens or teens. I have nothing wrong with having a adult friend. But I do find it odd since it says for 14 and under. (no flames plz)

But us adults are 14 & under on the inside. I would consider myself, oh say...maybe 9-ish :lmao: I do always wonder how old the people are on my friends list, though. I know some of them are pre-teenish, some of them are my age (20's) and some of them are my Mom's age. But just like in 'real' life, I make friends with people because I like there personalities -- nothing based on how old they are, I've always been like that. I have friends in real life ranging from pre-teens (the one's that 'look up' to me ;) ) to people in their 80's (the one's i look up to). My favorite ones are the one's that are kids at heart and always will be (I always get a smile on my face when I see two old ladies in wheel chairs getting super duper excited about going on Dumbo at Disneyland :rotfl: ) But anywho, VMK, to me, is just like the Disney movies and the Disney Parks...designed for children, and the old people that still have magic left in their hearts

I started vmk so I could keep an eye on my DD, MickeysMusic. But then I found myself enjoying it so much, that I began to play without her. :rolleyes1

I still keep track of what's she's doing while she's on vmk, and enjoy spending time with her and her friends whenever we are both on. I have made such wonderful friendships -- these are what I look foward to each time I sign on. :)

Game designed for 8-14 year olds? Bah, Humbug!!

:grouphug: :grouphug:

Current average age of gamers (in the general term meaning of all the people that play games be it console or cpu) is 30.2 I believe. Chances are with that being the average age of gamers that even if a game is designed for kids you'll have a lot of people over the age of 20 playing.

I want to try out VMK cuz it seems like a mini, simple MMO and I'm bored of WoW and CS:S atm. I'm also well above 14 but I see numerous kids playing CS:S, a very very violent game filled with players that do nothing but cuss and yell. Even with that type of game there are so many kids around the 10ish range, who lets them play or buys the games for them is beyond me, the game is meant for 18 +. I think thats a bigger worry than us grown kids playing on VMK to catch some Disney magic :).

I'm glad I read these boards though cuz I'm use to MMOs like WoW, EQ, EQ2 and DAoC where everyone frequently talks about RL and uses Vent or TS and various IM services. I probably would of asked some noob question and been banned instantly.

"Virtual Magic Kingdom is a free multi-Player game, where you can have a Disney Theme Park experience and hang out with your friends. While it is designed to be enjoyed by Guests of all ages, many VMK Players are between the ages of 8-14, so VMK needs to be a safe, non-threatening environment."

This is from the Main page on VMK. It does not say for age 8-14, it just says many are that age.

I'm ancient and I began playing to keep an eye on my child. I discovered that I enjoy the game as much as he.

Who says just because a person is "ancient", they can't still have fun hanging out at a virtual Magic Kingdom? ;) I love all my friends that I've made on VMK, some are closer than my "real life" friends. :grouphug:

I actually found this game before my children and debated at first whether I would share it with them... LOL!

Nope, sorry, it isn't just for 8-14 year olds.

It's designed for 8-14 year olds. Programmers (who are old ;) ) sit around and try to figure out what makes tweens and pre-teens tick. What do they like? How can we get them to pester their parents into spending more money on Disney?

They don't care too much about me at my age, as long as my kids are plugged into the machine with Disney, since that builds a long term customer base they so desperately need to compete in the coming decade.

Sorry to make it so business-like, but that's the reason for the age range: who is being targeting via the marketing?

Doesn't mean those outside the target can't "shop" at the same place, just that we aren't being tracked and monitored the way you are.

My husband was the first to play VMK in our family- and then my then 7 yo daughter started to play- I played to help her out and to meet all the people my husband was spending his evenings laughing with and dancing at close with lol...

and I've been playing hard since...

You will find that there are many things out there that are "designed" for kids that appeal to adults as well- I'm thinking Harry Potter as the best example- that is probably the one children's book with the biggest adult following out there...

I go see all the Disney movies at the theaters also- and love to watch them at home even when my kids aren't around.

Disney is more than an age- it is about being ageless and living in the magic for a little bit- and VMK gives us a link to that magic each and every day from the comfort of our homes.

BTW- you will find that in this forum there are for more adults than kids- so if you were curious you have probably come to a good place to ask about why adults play the game.

I think the answer stems back when Walt Disney was alive.

Back when his daughters were young, he grumbled that the places where
they could go as a family were usually seedy carnivals and such. Or
amusement parks where he would sit on the sidelines while the kids went
on the merry-go-round.

Then when he took his family to Europe, he stumbled upon inspiration in
the well-maintained Tivoli Gardens.

Disneyland was probably born on the European trip. Walt wanted a place
that both appealed to kids AND that adults could enjoy, too. That was
the cornerstone of his vision of Disneyland. It was built to be the place
where kids "of every age" (meaning adults, too) could enjoy themselves
together.

So I think VMK is an extension of a Disney park. Adults who love to go
to Disney parks enjoy playing VMK. I can't speak for all adults who
love Disney, but this adult sure does. :)

Well, I started playing because I had heard how fun it was from other parents. I thought it would be a great game to play with my daughter. Now, I like it better than her! I am definately a kid at heart and lets face it... When I was a child we did not have games like this. So it's like being a kid all over again. :cloud9:

Also, while the marketing isn't geared toward to older players, the quests in DL prompted me to change a recent vacation to include 3 days in DL. Not that my family needed too much convincing. So the marketing $$ are being well spent. :thumbsup2

if no one over 14 was supposed to play then don't you think disney would have arranged the account creation page and if you entered a date of birth making you over 14 they would not let you sign up i think this is the simple answer as you can make an account being over 14 disney do not have a rule that only 14 and under can play it was simply designed for those players 14 and under.
