I searched but did not find. :( I have read somewhere that film will be exposed if you pack it in your suitcase and should be carried on at all times. Your advice please? :) would the xray they use on your carry on expose it?

the x-ray they use for the checked baggage is much stronger then they use for the carry-on stuff.

I've took extra film w/ me to florida, brought it back, went to DC with the same film and had it scaned in many buildings. and the pictures still came out fine.

My g/f on the other hand left her camera in her checked luggage on our way down to florida and her film was ruined when we developed it.

Returning from Disney this summer, I had all of my 19 rolls of film out of the canisters and all in a ziploc. I requested a "hand inspection" of this film and I was told it was safe to put thru along with the carry-on. They said you don't want to put it in your checked bags because of the new (since 9-11) x-ray machines, they will ruin it. I also came across a situation that these machines also screen for density. A few years ago I was bringing home Hershey syrup (couldn't find the dark at home, but i could in Fla.). I had it in my checked luggage and because it was so thick, the machine alerted for a hand check. But, anyway, if you put your film in your carry-on, it will be fine. I fly to Fla. every year and have never had a problem with ruined film in a carry-on.....but i also won't pack it in checked luggage either!!

I have my film (and lots of it!) out of the canisters and in a ziploc bag, each roll has an ID sticker on it in case they're lost. They will do a hand inspection for you. I wouldn't want to risk ruining the film. By the way, I use 800sp film. I believe it's 800 speed and higher that are most likely to get ruined during scanning.
