I had purchased the sony H9 and am throughly disappointed. I also had a previous version that I loved and unfortunately passed that to my parents. I am looking at the dsc-h50? Anyone with pros & cons?

I would hate to be disappointed again!

Haven't personally owned it - I did have over 2 great years with the H5 though...I skipped the H9 after reading too many complaints and problems and not being too impressed with the samples. I'd have to say that both user reviews and samples and shots I've seen from the H50 over on dpreview and other photography sites look quite good, and it seems to perform better and get much better user reviews than the H9.

A few H5 users I know who loved those cameras and didn't like the H9 seem to be much happier with the H50. I'd go to some of those photo sites and dig through as many different kinds of shots as you can find, to see if it looks like it would work for you.

Nowadays, I don't think there's a whole lot of difference performance-wise between any of the super-zooms - Canon, Olympus, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, and Fuji all seem pretty well equals overall with their ultra-zoom models...so go with the one that has the best price, best ergonomics, best features, or best samples for you. If you've already got H9 accessories, that might make the decision easier since you can still use teleextenders and filters on the H50 from your H9.

Thanks Justin! I have had 3 now Sonys and loved my first two. The last one the H9 I was just so disappointed. I gave my H1 to my parents and they love it and I don't have the heart to ask for it back. I'm thinking, jafter reading MANY reviews to trade in my H9 for the H50. We'll see. I'm gonna go to Best buy or Circuit City this weekend and play with one. I will check out other reviews. Thank you for your insight. You are right I have all the acessories with the H9 that I hate to lose that all. And afterall my other 2 sonys were so good.

I have the H9 and love it. Perhaps you just haven't given the camera a chance yet. Check out my link below to see the shots that I have taken. I have gotten many, many, many terrific photos with this camera. Granted I have played with it a lot, which it what you really have to do to get great photos. To be honest though the new h50 looks a lot like the h9, biggest difference that I saw was that you could shoot in RAW. I personally wouldn't buy the camera just based on that alone, unless you just have money to burn.

Just my opinion of course, Melissa

I bought the H50 3 months ago and like it. I never any of the previous H series ones, so cannot comment on that. In daylight it does a really good job, low light takes a bit more work to get a shot (but it is a small sensor).
You can go to pbase.com and search my images (Sony H50 Samples). I cannot post links yet as I do not have enought posts yet.

I have the H-5 and upgraded to the H-50. My only complaint is that I had some problems with the indoor scenes at Disney 2 weeks ago. Some of my shots were great and some were blurred. I shot in automatic which does make it tough to get a good shot at times because if the light level is to low the camera will not shoot. I could not get into the ISO mode for some reason and of course did not have the manual to refresh my memory. I did get some great fireworkd shots. For the most part I am happy with the H-50 but am seriously considering upgrading yet again to a DSLR because of the lowlight resolution problems. If you use the night vision option you get good pictures but only in B/W. It is an interesting feature though.
