"Sometimes the right path is not the easiest one." - 1st Training Journal (comments welcome!)

I finally made my way back here for a run update. A part of me can’t believe how far behind I am in these posts, and another isn’t surprised because of how busy I've been.

Tuesday, November 30, 2021
Today was supposed to be a 2 mile Easy/LR, but I switched it with tomorrow’s 6 mile run to adjust for a meeting. It was also supposed to be a nutrition practice day, but I wasn’t able to prepare for that today (fail to plan, plan to fail), so I didn't do my standard pre and post food.

This weekend was going to be a very brief trip to WDW! It became a semi-Marathon Weekend simulation trip, as I packed my running essentials for my weekend long runs (including my Dottie skirt to try out before race weekend). Today’s run was done at home before heading to the most magical place on Earth. :earsboy:

I knew I needed to slow down my pace again after the too fast mileage I had done this week. I also knew it would be an adjustment running in FL temperatures again. I ended up doing this run in the middle of the day, trying out the HS to EPCOT path for the first time. The run felt fine, but about halfway though I was tired of the heat. I was very happy to be done with these miles at the end.

I did today's run in the morning. I decided to run the paths at the WL so I could get the run done earlier. I wore my Dottie skirt to test it out before race day. It wasn't bad, so I think I can make it work for the marathon.

Today was my last T Pace run on this training plan. It's funny to think about how much I stressed out over this earlier, and now it's just another run.

I used a Garmin training workout that I set up by mileage & time. I didn't have any alerts for the WU and CD, but I just ran and walked at a perceived easy effort. Due to this type of workout setup, I stopped when the Garmin said I was finished.

Today was Springtime Surprise registration day! My desire to earn perfect status for a race weekend, plus my interest in doing a night time runDisney event for the first time (+ a scavenger hunt!) lead me to the stress of registration day today. I had to register on my phone due to the time of the registration this time around, so I didn't have multiple devices or browsers, but I got in for the challenge! I have to remember to go back and check/update my anticipated pace and finish times because I pretty much just put anything to get the registration done. I've never done a 10 miler so I'm not sure what my anticipated finish would be, so I have to take a look at that more carefully. I'm really looking forward to this race weekend. This registration brings my upcoming races to:

1. January WDW Marathon
2. February Princess 5K
3. February Princess Fairy Tale Challenge (10K + 1/2 Marathon)
4. March/April Springtime Surprise Challenge (5K, 10K, 10 miler)

@DopeyBadger, I know I've still got awhile to go but if you have the time I'd definitely be interested in a plan to get me from Marathon Weekend to each of these race weekends. If less days a week would be possible with the shorter distances I'd be interested in that, otherwise I can continue to make it work with the 5 days. :thanks:

Today was a busy work day. I was tired from all of the events of the week, and I probably ran faster than I should've because I just wanted to get home. Not the best, but not terrible in terms of perceived effort. I know I tend to run faster in the winter months normally, so I just need to pay more attention to my pace for the rest of these weeks.

The wind was still brutal today, but the sun was out and it wasn't humid, which made it a little more bearable. I felt okay about this run from the start because it was only 6 miles, and I had just done 5.5 yesterday without too much trouble. I was a little sore this morning, but overall I was good to go. I tried to focus on slowing down my pace today.

Congrats! Those are always the hardest runs to get out of the house for, but you did it!

I am just doing marathon weekend! I wish I was doing Princess though. The challenge princesses are all amazing.
I was also going to mention checking for restocks, but then I saw your comment about marathon weekend.
ETA (hit post too soon!)
I always have FOMO with runDisney race weekends. There are sooo many events I want to do, and there’s not enough money or time off for me to do them!

My least favorite thing about weekday runs is having to run on a track. I haven't been able to run at the park during the week because of the early sunset, but since today's run was a short one I decided to give a different park a try today for a change of scenery. It was already starting to get dark by the time I got there, so I skipped the stretch and started with a brief walk.

As it got darker, they actually started kicking people out of the park. That never happens in my usual running spot, so it caught me off guard. I literally ran circles in the parking lot near my car until I got my 2 miles, and then got in the car and left. No cool down walk. No stretch. Looks like I won't be running there again anytime soon!

I had to take today's run back to the track. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to, but I still don't love it. I was in a hurry to get ready after work, and then I realized today was supposed to be a nutrition strategy practice day. I quickly made my bagel, ate half of it with some apple juice, finished getting ready, and got out the door. It ended up being practice on what NOT to do, because I paid for eating in a rush!

Today's run was relatively uneventful. I had to stay a little late after work so I started this run later than normal, but I got it done.

I slept in a little today after a long work week. This morning called for rain, so I wasn't really in a rush to get out the door. It rained off and on, but while I was actually out running it was more like a light drizzle for the majority of the time.

5 min post run stretch outdoors

Sunday, December 19, 2021
Today was my longest run in the training plan. I wasn't nervous because I just did a similar long run two weeks ago, but it’s crazy to think that we're so close to MW! I woke up with a little pain in my left knee, but it wasn’t enough to make me think I couldn't do the run safely.

Today was a nutrition strategy practice day, with the usual pre and post food. I alternated the Gatorade chews flavors for a change, but I don’t think I'll do that again. It wasn’t bad, but I like sticking to one flavor for consistency.

I actually went out for this run twice. I drove out to my favorite spot, got out the car for my stretch and realized how cold and windy it was, and then got back in the car and debated whether to tough it out or go back for warmer clothes. Due to the length of the run, I decided on the latter!

5 min post run stretch outdoors

I felt really good about this run. It was really cold and incredibly windy, but I got it done. Due to the higher mileage I changed up my route a little, and included a long and gradual incline, which was a little challenging compared to my normal flat road, but a good and welcomed change. Unlike yesterday, I didn't really put too much thought into my pace. I just ran at a pace that felt right, instead of looking at my watch throughout the run to see where it was. I did occasionally look at the average pace after each mile, but I even stopped doing that after awhile. The majority of the run felt like I was on autopilot. My legs just kept moving, and my mind went to thoughts of the race experience. Late in the run I started to feel it in my calves and a little bit in my left knee during the walk intervals, but nothing major. It felt better to run than to walk. At the end, I was happy to be done (especially with the wind), but I could've done more if I needed to, so I knew I didn't push too hard at all.

Today I'm testing out my new Pro Compression socks post-run.
