I posted this question on the DL/west thread, no takers; believe yinz guys visited the Grand Canyon (def. remember you said hoover dam).

I was able to book 1 night onsite @ the Thunderbird Lodge (looks like something from russia-communist era, only 1 bed w/cot, least it has AC-most units don't & a view!, evidently steps from the rim:woohoo: . Located between the El Tovar (fancy place) & bright angel lodge? Hoping it's not really creepy...do you remember it? Check out tripadvisor - got so-so ratings.:confused3

planning on flying into LAS & driving directly over to GC, then back the next afternoon, hopefully no more than a 5 hour "easy" drive

hey homies, i'm herreeeeeeeeee.

miss me much?
:hippie:

another long day.
either they are long or too short.

when penny tells me the amount of sunlight we have then i will know if we are short or long.............that's the blonde way of saying nothing ........:laughing:

keisha, we should start a thread on the ex's and the ex inlaws.
i think some of my stories are a hoot.
we'll put the thread on the CB. it will fit in fine there.

did i ever tell you the time my first mil came to visit and i had her sit on the couch at my brothers house.
he had a remote control for the tv.

he would change the channels as she was watching tv.
she was completely awed over it........she got up to look behind the tv console to see what was there.
she would move to where she was sitting to another chair/seat in the living room. brother would flip the channels again.

she freaked. she called it the magic box. she only knew limited amount of english.

my brother told her and then i told her/translated that the remote was magic and if you thought of a show, you clicked the button on the remote and it would change without having to walk over to the tv.
she never heard of that before.

and she believed me.

of course, my brother was po'ed when he found out she stole his tv remote when we left. she wanted to take it home with her as she said no one would believe her. they would have to see for themselves.

guess its best to leave some of those funny stories in the past..............:rotfl: :rotfl:

and did i ever tell you the time the ex bought cans of dog food when i sent him grocery shopping?
he just looked at the pictures on the cans and thought it was chili...:laughing:

tricia, have fun on your trip.
you'll have so much fun!

keisha, how is mom doing now?

lori: hey girl!

mr mac did the grand canyon twice with some friends. last year and 3 years ago.

but they backpacked it and slept in the canyon each night.
they started at north rim and went to south rim.

tricia's getting ready to start her engines....vrooom, vrooooooooom. Call me weird:3dglasses ; i neve liked anyone in my house when i was gone...nothing to hide...just a carryover from MIL #1 who'd give my house the white glove treatment & if it didn't meet her high standards; she'd clean & re-arrange the furniture (ps wait till kids get older, you'll be shocked @ what u find hidden in their rooms:rolleyes: )

It's more that I want the boys here than I want the in laws here. Here, I know they can find things to do... stuff to play with... and I don't have to worry about them breaking anything.

The in laws have stayed here with the boys before. I know what to expect. There will always be ONE thing in my kitchen that has been moved. Just one. :confused3 Usually it is a food storage thing. The first time, she put our loaf of bread in the fridge. Last time, I had made those little tomato, olive & cheese appetizers for our anniversary, so I had a pint of grape-size tomatoes that I stuck in the fridge to chill for the arrangement. I used what I wanted out of the pack and forgot the rest. Came home and the package was sitting on the counter. :rolleyes: Yes, I know that tomatoes aren't supposed to be stored in the fridge. I was just chilling them for the appetizer and forgot.

It doesn't matter. MIL never says a word about how I keep house or anything else and they are doing us a HUGE favor watching the boys. I'll put up with the one-thing-moved deal.

We drove to the north rim of the Grand Canyon on a day trip from Vegas. I've never stayed there. Most of the commercial stuff is on the south rim, so I have no idea what/where you're talking about. Sorry.

and did i ever tell you the time the ex bought cans of dog food when i sent him grocery shopping?
he just looked at the pictures on the cans and thought it was chili...:laughing:

tricia, have fun on your trip.
you'll have so much fun!

If you start the thread on exs and ex in laws, let me know. I've got some stories. :eek:

I know I'll have fun, just as long as I get to go. Once we are on the drive down... maybe after we cross the state line... then I'll start to relax... :rolleyes1

I found the floor in Daniel's room. I vacuumed. Under the bed there were some little brown balls. I'm hoping they were candy of some variety. If not, I don't want to know. :scared1:

we have now gained 1 hour and 33 minutes of daylight :goodvibes

we change clocks in 24 days . THAT MEANS WE GAIN AN EXTRA 60 MINUTES OF DAYLIGHT.:thumbsup2
Not too shabby.

we had a lot of snow fall last night , followed by pouring rain all day. i have freakin' had it. snowblowing before coffee is not a good thing. :surfweb:

leap year day in two weeks. happy birthday to those folks born on that day, who technically get a birth day every four years.

tomorrow is the big candy- sex and flowers and more sex day. congrats to any threaders getting any of the afor- mentioned.:love:

if you aint getting any of the above, welcome to the rest of the world.

I'm sitting here eating Nestle Toll House chocolate chips for lunch.

Not the cookies, mind you. I am dumping the chocolate chips straight from the bag and eating them.

Is that a bad thing? :confused3

How could eating chocolate ever be a bad thing. . . . :confused3 Please have some for me, would you??

Barb, insert smiley with chocolate around it's mouth. . . .

/
Penny - did you see on the news tonight that 72,000 homes in Maine are without power this evening?

tricia - north rim was booked solid:confused3 (was closer to vegas & zion appears in the neck of the woods) so i went with the south rim. Sounds like you've got great inlaws:thumbsup2 ; sure will put your mind @ ease.

mac - omg, he hiked it:scared1: believe i read it was easily 42 miles!! Talk about a go-getter

we are going to try just the 1st section of the Bright Angel trail-since we'll be staying in front of the entrance approx 1-1/2 miles down & into caves? maybe he'll remember it if you get a chance to ask him. I was shocked to find out that it's never more than mid 80's on top of canyon, good 20-30 degrees hotter on the bottom in the summer.

ps very funny MIL story...the magic box:laughing: is a riot. When i must meet & greet my ex's, i slap a smile on my face & try to have a drink in my hand:idea: . One thing that irritated me was how ex never remembered either my birthday or anniversary. His parents found it hysterical:confused3 ; imo, normal peeps would remind him. Probably, the main reason I picked Valentines day to married to DH, no excuses. I don't expect anything fancy (nice to get a presents though lol), still have the hand-made cards when times were lean:cloud9:

penny - i hope cupid lays a big :love: smack down on you tomorrow;) and all the other thread peeps (chocolate, sex, chocolate covered sex, FOTL percs, whatever;) )

anybody besides tricia have any big valentines day plans? we'll go out to eat on Saturday (by ourselves i hope, foisting fund-raising spaghetti dinner on ma - who is hale & hearty today:thumbsup2 - and DSs)...think i have a gift card or two somewhere:goodvibes believe a:yay: bottle of asti is still in the fridge too

I know hubby plans on watching the WVU bball game at 7pm. I had wanted to get away Saturday/Sunday, but too many things got in the way. One of these is hubby is planning on going to WVU bball game Sunday at 2pm. Which meant we would have to hurry home Sunday am. So, I said can you take me out for a steak dinner on Saturday night? This will be our plans, Jr. will probably come along as he will need to eat sometime as well.

Hope none of you fell asleep reading the Boring Valentines Saga of the Jaws household.
:)

OMG I will be happy to just get a CARD !! I really could use the Candy though :thumbsup2 .

Ok Lori I am going to do the photos for you on Thursday. I will be home from work and I am going to start to really pull the room apart so before I do so I will take the photos . May I remind you you asked for it .:rotfl2: .

My day in grade three was OK but why are there kids in 3rd grade that can't tie their own shoes ??? I mean 1st grade ok ,2nd grade you are learning but by grade 3 can we teach our kids to tie shoes or WHAT !!! .....Rant over

I am so wiped out this week , our my poor DD had a bowling match on Monday that went on forever . They bowled one game and lost. Then bowled another and WON :cheer2: . Then they played a third game to determine a winner and well it was a TIE :scared1: . So now they bowled a fourth game and well they lost :sad1: . She was so tired but her name was mentioned as a Key Bowler for the team :cheer2: . We are so proud of her .

DD that is 12 I have to update still has NOT gotten her phone back so Mommy is still a member of the Mean Mommies club. I usually cave in by now but I have stuck to my guns on this one ....So far :rotfl: .

I am wondering anyone here eat at Burger King ?? We usually don't but the next few weeks are going to have Monster Jam Toys in the kiddie meals so I think I am going to have to make a trip or two to get them for my DS . What we do for our kids it must be LOVE :hug: .

Nothing else intresting going on here . We are waiting to hear from our accountant ... Which also happens to be a good friend of ours .... To see if we are going to get the big bucks back this year or not . I hope there is enough to help pay off my new room . :thumbsup2 .

Going to give DS a shower and then get both DD's to bed . If I am not asleep by 10 I am going to try to get back on but I havent been making it past 9:30 the past few nights . If I don't make it back

NIGHT NIGHT everyone .. Sweet Dreams :cloud9:

Anyone else here part of the "getting nothing" for Valentine's Day? Not that he isn't getting me a gift, but I won't see him til the weekend.

Anyone else have exciting plans??

no double tomorrow, but i figure i'll see him long enough to feed him a t-bone & shove him back out the door for next shift;) ; maybe even a quick smootch if i'm lucky.

getting rid of ex-mil was one of the nice things about the divorce; odd thing is she apparently thinks i'm swell and speaks highly of me (probably because i was the best doormat she ever saw lol)...i tend to avoid her when i can @ any gatherings we're thrown together.:rolleyes:

anybody besides tricia have any big valentines day plans? we'll go out to eat on Saturday (by ourselves i hope, foisting fund-raising spaghetti dinner on ma - who is hale & hearty today:thumbsup2 - and DSs)...think i have a gift card or two somewhere:goodvibes believe a:yay: bottle of asti is still in the fridge too

Glad no double tomorrow but I guess he will be gone most of the night. DUH!

Isn't it funny how the inlaws end up liking you when you thought they didn't

No plans here. Won't even do anything over the weekend. I will be out of town working with my sister.

I posted this question on the DL/west thread, no takers; believe yinz guys visited the Grand Canyon (def. remember you said hoover dam).

Sorry Janet. We did a day trip. And it was a fast one. We spent a couple of hours in the main part of the park and then pulled in to all the scenic cutouts on our way out. Try this board. I got lots of great info on the Tetons there.

miss me much?
:hippie:

keisha, how is mom doing now?

lori: hey girl!

I have no personal ex stories. When I kicked him out him out he disappeared. Was glad. Never had to worry about him being with the kids.

Very funny stories though mac. Ex & his mom sound brilliant!

We need pics when it is all torn up too!

Wait, my dd is in the third grade. Should she be able to tie her shoes? J/K! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Gotta run to baseball meeting.Will try to get back in later.

Hi Katie!

Anyone else here part of the "getting nothing" for Valentine's Day? Not that he isn't getting me a gift, but I won't see him til the weekend.

Anyone else have exciting plans??

i keep telling you - the key is to plan your anniversary the same day;) (course it's sorta like having a birthday on Christmas lol)

YAY! Snow day for Sharon today.

This is the first time ever that the boss has called and told me to stay home. So why did I volunteer to go in later today if this mess changes over to rain? :confused3

Somebody smack me in the head.

Atcher service

Moning MF. Hope you are still warm down there. Just watch, it will snow when I come down next week. Get out your woolies, because we're going to bring it with us!

:cool1: damo's takin' fletch snow!!

What day you leave again? Just Florida, or the 'new home' too?

mac - i agree the big O is turning into a kingmaker, way too much money & power in one vocal broad's hands imo...fans are almost cult-like in their devotion.:confused3

i agree with you and Lori....gettin' too big and powerful for her britches :sad2:

It was in the chiropractic field, which I like more than the spa field. I'm sure that in the spas, a rough economy means less pampering for the middle class. The superrich can still get massages when they want.

I think you're safe in chiropractic...peeps get that done all the time.... ;)

Well... the roots of Nascar can be traced back to the early 1900s when they were just trying to find out who had the fastest car. It wasn't organized, there weren't any rules, and there weren't any tracks. Daytona became a yearly gathering place to race across the hard, even sand.

As for why they keep the Daytona as the first race of the season, I think it has to do with the season starting in February. Can't exactly race in Michigan or Indiana or the Poconos in February. Your choices are limited. Vegas or California, maybe? Anyway, better to have the "original" race first so you can make a big deal about it instead of having it the second or third week when it would seem like any other race. That's my theory, anyway. :confused3

Your theory makes sense.....had no idea the history dated back quite that far :confused3

I won't be around much today.

best laid plans :rolleyes1

Boss just called - they are closing the office today because of the weather!!!!

Time to kick DS out of bed. Today is going to be "Pack the Legos up and put in the attic day". He is going to be so not happy with me! hehe

And, how exactly did putting his Legos "out of reach" go for you??

9.gif

okay
here is the list

Yankee = Edwards
Bubba = Johnson
tlinus = Stewart
rvgal = Bowyer
keisha = Waltrip
wwessing = Dale. jr.
dm = kyle petty
loribell = J Gordon
Damo = Villeneuve
jaws = Biffle
Sharon = Harvick

Don't see mac.....OR Todd.....OR Katie..... :confused3 ...or Jodie..... :rolleyes:

Has Bubba ever mentioned being upset by things she pulls? Our parents should be there for us when we need them. I can guarantee you they would expect no less from us.

He has no idea of the crap she pulls, and he's young enuf he doesn't need to know.....yet. One day when he's older, but for now, thru his eyes, it's still his 'Mom-Mom' :rolleyes:

She invited herself? :headache: :headache: Is she going to be there the whole time or just the cruise?

How much are you working at the new job?

Yep...she invited herself....for the WHOLE trip! :headache: ALL 17 days of it :sad2: Countin' on my homie "meets" to keep me busy....and the boys can just ride coasters to get away from her :rotfl2: (We invited lots of friends and family on this cruise....the more the merrier type thing....well, when it came time to ante up funds, everyone couldn't afford it, and she's not bright enuf to realize she is a 3rd wheel :sad2:

I'm supposed to work Mon, Wed & Thurs at the new job, but they put me on Tues morning as a backup (told them Tues & Fri morning I could work as a backup IF they NEEDED me.....will get next weeks schedule tomorrow...hopefully....)

What's a motorhead?:confused3

Okay, in high skool, there are 'nerds' and 'sportys' (kids into sports)...we had a group of 'motorheads'....kids really into cars and hanging out 'in town' cruising High St. Guys were into fixing them up and racing and all sorts of things related to cars...that's all..... :rolleyes:

So what does he like to use his sick days for? My dh, being a government employee, has so much sick time & vacation time it is unbelievable. He carries over 6 weeks of vacation every year. So what is he going to do while we are on vacation this summer? He is taking just two weeks and is coming back well before the rest of us. Not that I mind but I know he will drive us nuts whining about us still being there.

Your DH is lucky to have time acrue. DH has to take it or lose it. He prefers to use his sick days for taking care of errands, or something around the house....or anything else...BUT being sick :sad2: :laughing:

It is much easier at this age, for the grandparents to come to them than for them to go to the grandparents. For starters, they've got the backup people next door. Then you've got to get Joshua to school (5 mins away) when Duane & Liz live 45 mins away. Then you've got all their stuff here (toys, video games, etc) and I don't have to worry about them breaking anything.

I agree....at their age, heck, even Bubba's age, it's easier for them to come to your house....don't blame ya one bit :thumbsup2
