My passport arrived less than a week after I applied. I threw my passport out in the bin in uni oops! Had to get a new one before Florida. We paid £6 for the post office to check that the forms were filled out correctly (they were) so when the forms go to the passport office they don't need to check them so just send the new passport asap.

The difference is Gemma that in the USA it just became mandatory to have the passport. You used to be able to travel using ID and birth certificate...after the whole 9/11 thing, this is one of the ways they are tightening security. So, they say "You NEED a passport to travel internationally"....then CRASH!!! Such a demand for summer travelers, they couldn't handle the work, and whatever the 'usual' processing time was (6-8 wks. maybe?) turned into 3 then 4 months!! It was ridiculous and the government realized they goofed...so, for anyone NOT FLYING internationally (driving to Canada, Mexico or cruising), you just have to show proof you applied for your passport, get another birth certificate and ID to travel....until Jan. 1, 2008...then you MUST have that passport or you're going nowhere! You're lucky it only took you a week! That would NEVER happen here.

We can only use a drivers licence if we are travelling to another part of the UK so that the same as you travelling to America (before 9/11) That correct? They have made a new rule now that if you are applying for your first asult passport then you have to attend an interview!! Glad that wasn't there when I applied all those years ago- I hate interviews.

WOOOOO Im getting all my uni stuff organised- cant wait to get back! Only a few weeks left!

Ah, we don't get the morning paper here. I was too tired of tying up the dang papers every week for recycling. I don't like the feel of ink on my hands. Weird, I know. I am going to see if my "aunt" doesn't know what happened. She is my parents' neighbor, and her son is on the squad. Exciting stuff, though definitely not as exciting as the drug raid in Motherfletcher's driveway!!

We are planners too. Got the Disney Visa thinking that with what we owed in taxes this year, we'd have a nice chunk of ship board credit. But, to pay taxes on the Visa, they charged a 1.9% fee to get a 1% cash back credit. Didn't make any sense to do that!

DH & DS (same name) are evidently on the watch list , every single trip they've been flagged & sent over to the side; wanded, and once even drug off to the dreaded private room .
All while i'm stuck with all the luggage on the belt, trying to off-load it w/no help from any employee...while i get the hairy eyeball from those behind me.

I'm all for national security, the more the better ; it just gets old fast when it's you, or yours, that gets the special attention...believe they could be directing their efforts to better effect elsewhere.

Read on another board it's helpful to obtain passports & show them @ checkin to avoid the above.

It worked, they breezed right thru now we don't have to be at the airport 3 hours early

Good news....DF is home from CA!

Bad news....he can't come with us on the vay-cay because he has a job "interview" (I'm hoping this is a formality and he may actually already have it) on Tues.

If I don't get on again, have a great week everyone and I hope that I will be able to drop in at least once during the trip...let's pray for wireless!

We're going to Kennywood tomorrow , the Thunderbolt rocks...check it out. The interesting thing about most of the coasters there is that they use the natural topography, lots of diving down in ravines
