It was ridiculous and the government realized they goofed...so, for anyone NOT FLYING internationally (driving to Canada, Mexico or cruising), you just have to show proof you applied for your passport, get another birth certificate and ID to travel....until Jan. 1, 2008...then you MUST have that passport or you're going nowhere! You're lucky it only took you a week! That would NEVER happen here.

now we don't have to be at the airport 3 hours early
because he has a job "interview" (I'm hoping this is a formality and he may actually already have it) on Tues. 
DH & DS (same name) are evidently on the watch list
All while i'm stuck with all the luggage on the belt, trying to off-load it w/no help from any employee...while i get the hairy eyeball from those behind me.
I'm all for national security, the more the better
Read on another board it's helpful to obtain passports & show them @ checkin to avoid the above.
