I had a set of lilies on either side of my walkway leading up to my house and someone pulled them right out of the ground. Root and all.

I also can not keep a decorative flag in front of my house because someone always takes it.

I've had potted flowers, house decorations, chairs, BBQ grills, etc.. taken from me. Most of this happened years ago, before I got married, when I lived in an apartment complex. One neighbor told me a couple days later that she saw some guy's steal all my patio furniture and BBQ grill. I don't know why she didn't tell me THEN. Evidentially, there was a party and these guy's decided to help themselves to the neighbors things. I was home alseep at the time. I wish people would find something better to do with their time.

My OCD neighbor steals landscape pebbles from other neighbors yards when they are not home, and places them into his yard....We live at the beach, so, most peoples yards are tiny white stones....

My other neighbor caught him doing this and snapped pics of him on her cell phone just so she could show me! The other thing he does is ride his bike around in the evenings and snatches up the solar landscape lights 1 at a time from various houses, then puts them in his yard. He has @ 10-12 lights outside his house ALL mis matched.... His jig is up with me, but, he is such a weirdo i fear retaliation with my dogs or something, same with my other neighbor..... He's one of those quiet neighbors who i expect to see on the news one night, if you know what i mean.....

Maybe go visit a Disney Resort the day after Valentines Day... It was amazing to see how many people bought expensive disney bouques just to leave them behind in the room for mousekeeping to take care of.

In anycase... I had a potted yellow rose bush, in a nice ceramic pot that I picked up from H.D. on clearance. Came home one night and it was gone off my porch. So to replace it, I bought the biggest pot like 22", 3 brick pavers, a bag of river stone, and two bags of dirt. That one never disappeared, but it was a heck of a deal to get that thing moved to our new apt.

Right now in my town, someone's going around stealing hanging baskets. Those things can be expensive! It's ridiculous.

Ummm... thanks for the snark - but the first poster ridiculed the OP and I quoted the rude poster and did this

I then offered some nice words up to the OP.

I hope that you feel superior spouting off and assuming something totally incorrect.

I overlook a lot of spelling and grammatical errors because I do the same thing on occasion.

I'm sorry I apologize. You were actually defending the OP- the poster that said that was so mean I assumed it was their posts that had been deleted. I'll read more closely next time.

After I posted I got busy at work and couldn't respond. To first person who asked about flowers and what exactly was taken--they dug them up from the ground, roots and all. And no comment on my spelling or grammatical errors (people who live in glass houses and all).

And the story of the funeral flowers-wow, that was low. Why do people do these things? Are they bored, cheap, stupid, immoral, dropped on their heads when they were younger, or what?

Apparently, it happens a lot with funeral displays after they are placed on the grave as well. A friend of mine always had very nice arrangements made for her mother's grave. A couple years ago it was stolen (right before Memorial Day). She was so angry and sad.

Well, they are probably planted in someone else's yard now. Weird. So sorry that happened.

On a related note...We moved to a neighborhood being built on a large old property a few years ago. There were a couple places where houses had been knocked down so that the new ones could eventually go up. Some of them had daffodils and other plantings in their yards. We dug a lot of them up and put them in the wooded area in our backyard....cause we knew they'd be bulldozed over when they started the new houses. Didn't want them to go to waste.

SO true. About 7 years ago, my mom had Pooh and Tigger planters stolen off her porch. She was so upset because Disney didn't have them any longer, so she couldn't buy replacements. They probably ended up at a flea market

I know someone a few years ago whose neighbor's house was foreclosed. So after the neighbors were gone and the house was empty, they went over and took some of the nicer landscaping (Japanese maples, etc.) and the fish in the garden pond. They justified it that they were "rescuing" them. That with no one taking care of these items they would have died. I still give them a hard time for "stealing" their neighbor's plants. It is interesting how perceptions vary and how people can justify things. The kicker is that they sold the fish and made over $100. They still didn't see anything wrong with it. They said it reimbursed them for their troubles "rescuing" them.

The sad thing is they really didn't see any issue with it until I pointed it out to them. Then the mom felt a little guilty, but the adult kids never did.
You have to feel a little bad for each subsequent generation as their conscience continues to shrink.

On my gosh, it was the most beautiful arrangement! She said the retail value would have been about $150. The highlights of the arrangement were several glorious green stems of orchids (very expensive she told me) that she had placed in vials of water, then arranged in the floral foam up front and center in the arrangement. We took the arrangement to the funeral home and placed it on a carpet runner in the home's back garage, where we were instructed to put it by the funeral director.


I didn't go to the visitation on Tuesday, but my neighbor did. She called me later that night in tears. Somebody had taken the orchids (in their water vials) out of her arrangment

We suspect that another florist delivery person did the deed. Somebody probably lifted the orchids and took them back to their shop to resell. !

I really, really would like to know the town you live in.
I can not imagine the scenario you say happen-my friend owns a Flower Shop and a driver would be canned for pulling such a trick. No way any reputable business owner would condone that at all.

UPDATE on the stolen funeral flowers:

I decided to go ahead and call the funeral home yesterday afternoon. The director in charge of my neighbor's funeral wasn't there, so I talked with a lady who I presume was an office employee. I told her that I was calling to let them know what happened, that I wasn't calling on my neighbor's behalf as she didn't want to pursue it, and that I didn't want the deceased's family bothered with the issue. I just thought they should get a "heads up." Yes, I was very polite.

The lady told me that over 90 arrangements (wow!) were delivered for the funeral. Anyway, she said that they take photos of all the arrangements before the visitation and give these photos to the deceased's family in a remembrance book. From my description of the arrangement, she was able to find the picture on her computer. She said that they take any business/condolence cards off each arrangement before photoing it, then put the cards back on after. In her photo, the green orchids ARE missing. She was very quiet for a moment, then said she'd never heard of anything like this happening before. She had her doubts that a delivery person would know the value of the orchids (really?...hmmm), but she couldn't refute my theory that a delivery person probably took them. She was kind of dumbfounded herself.

So, there you have it. I have no proof, but there just isn't any other logical explanation. The theft happened before the arrangement had been taken from the garage into the funeral home to be photoed and placed for visitation.

So yes, I do believe there is a nonreputable florist in the area, with a driver who knows flowers and their value, and who WOULD condone such a theft. I would venture that 99.99999% of all arrangements are made by and delivered by florists. The deceased's family has no idea what flowers the arrangements are SUPPOSED to have in them.

There's a crook around every corner, my dad used to say.......
