Some interesting information about New Jersey

Does anyone remember the Route 9 Drive-In in Sayreville, just south of the Edison Bridge? We were so sad when they tore it down to build Amboys Multiplex.

And hard rolls with butter....yummmmy! Whenever I go home, I have to get a hard roll from Daylight Bakery in South Amboy. You just can't get a good hard roll down here.

Yep, I remember the Rt. 9 drive-in very well. Used to love coming over the bridge at night and trying to watch the movie as we drove by.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow when I drive past the Daylight Bakery. I now live in S.A. and pass it all the time.

As a life long "609er" I'll take that "different" comment as a compliment! :teeth: We are a little different...in a good way :wave2: . I heard recently that we'll be loosing one of our last remaining circles soon. The one in Somers Point will be going the way of the most of the others. The are building a new bridge that will wipe out the need for it. Won't happen for four years though. Oh, and I had Taylor port roll and cheese at a diner (Dino's Diner) yesterday morning for breakfast  .

See ya' on Rt 9, 47 or 55 this summer!

*Was raised in South Jersey and proud of it! But can't wait to get outta here!*

And I'm in the area that used to be the 609 area code, so it no longer applies to me!:teeth:

North Jersey has the most shopping malls in one area./QUOTE]

Growing up in Rochelle Park and River Edge, I can surely agree with this statement! But you gotta love the Blue Laws in Paramus shutting down the malls on Sunday!

Me too, now 856. I'm right near the Berlin circle and the old Atco drive-in :( Yes, I do live very close to 3 malls, Echelon, Deptford and Cherry Hill. I spend my summers in Cape May and I'm proud to be from Jersey :D

Another Jersey Girl chiming in...

I remember the "bridge" drive in. Besides the drive in that is scheduled for Wall, there is also another drive in being planned for South Jersey, closer to the PA border (can't remember the town now, but I read it in the paper over the weekend). I also remember when there was a drive in by the Willowbrook Mall.

Can't believe no one mentioned Hahn's as another defunct store. The building in Montclair is still nothing (and I always thought it was a great space). I still have a pair of socks that I bought from Hahns!

Anyone missing out on circles can head for the Atlantic City Airport...there's a couple of them over there.

We still have a few circles in Ocean Couty, too...Lakehurst has 2 or 3 that I can think of offhand. :)

"Anyone missing out on circles "

Theres one in Clark too!!! Exit 135 Garden State Parkway!;) ;)

NJ has the highest cost of living????

Even though I am the ultimate thread killer, I just had to chime in. I was born in Christ Hospital and spent the first 8 years of my life in Jersey City as both my parents were born there.

I finally went back with them when I was 16 to find a huge extended family I never even knew existed everything just seemed to be like night and day from Florida!

I wish I could add my anecdotes to the fantastic New Jersey list but I don't have any.

I do often wonder as we do get the Sopranos over here (about a year after they are aired in the US) what on earth a person from NJ thinks of it all?

Annie&Hallie'smom -- my husband told me just the other day that Montclair was finally going to do something with that old building space. He said there's going to be a whole bunch of new stores and maybe some condos there.

Ahhh ravengirl I can't let you kill this thread (that job is usually mine LOL!).
I was born and raised here on LI, but spent a great deal of time in Jersey. Married a Jersey boy, moved to Jersey, moved to Illinios, moved back to LI, but still consider Jersey to be my real home.
Who remembers The Capitol Theater in Passaic?

The other drive-in re-opening is in Millville/Vineland on Route 47. My DH is very excited!

Capitol Theatre in Passiac -- Rick Springfield played there once in the 80s.
