Solo Deluxe Dining, Apr 30 - May 7, w/pics!

BONUS -- two updates at once!! Yeah :thumbsup2 If you can't tell I'm really enjoying your report. I'm thrilled to hear that you liked Yak & Yeti enough to say you'd go back as I've been debating whether or not to make an ADR there. That mango pie sounds delish and I've heard of the yak attack too. So if all else fails, I can always pop in for a cocktail and pie, right? Perfectly reasonable food combination.:rolleyes1

Yum yum! More great reports! I've put those lettuce cups on my "must do" list for my next trip!

Great update Marsh!!

Great report! My DD and I can't wait to try the Mango Pie!

oh you will love it!

watch for it...coming soon...WCC...

Whispering Canyon Cafe, dinner, 05.03.08

As you know from my previous installment, WCC was not in my original plans. I would have been at Artist Point tonight, but used up a credit for lunch instead. So I figured, I may as well try for WCC, since it's at least in the same hotel I was originally going for. The only time they had available for me was 8:40pm, which was late, but I took it anyway. I actually arrived at 7:50, and had to wait until my ADR time to be seated. That was a long wait, but I just sat in a comfy chair and dozed in and out.

When I was finally seated, it was in some far off room, away from any action whatsoever. This was a major disappointment. I mean yeah, I'm by myself, but why does that mean I don't get to play? Oh well, I never said anything, so that's my own fault. I know better if I ever go back.

My server was fine. I don't remember her name. She did throw straws at me. That's about it. And she kept up on my drink, which I appreciated.

Speaking of my drink, I ordered the refillable milkshake, since it was included. Yum! I got vanilla first, then a caramel later (didn't finish either!)

Actually, before the shake came out, my salad came out. Oh yeah, I ordered the Skillet, and all that came with it. So here's the salad

dis2008-05447.jpg

I liked it just fine. The dressing was tasty, apple vinaigrette.

After the salad, the cornbread and butter appeared

dis2008-05449.jpg

I tried it and thought it to be a bit dry, but maybe it's just because I don't usually eat cornbread, so I'm not used to it. Who knows.

Next up came the skillet

I really enjoyed the peel-n-eat shrimp, even though they were pretty messy. I easily finished all of those. The pulled pork was alright, better when dipped in the bbq sauce. The ribs were good. I normally don't eat ribs, but I was determined to try everything in there, so I did. So what I tried, I enjoyed of the ribs. As for the chicken, I had some of the white meat part, and it was fine. I don't do dark meat on chicken, so I can't comment on that part. Wasn't a fan of the beans, but I don't eat baked beans anyway. Oh yeah, mashed potatoes! Can't forget those! They were nice and creamy.

So I barely made a dent in that skillet, other than the shrimp, there was lots left over. I think it's the same size they brought out for a party of 3 sitting next to me. Way lots of food, not meant for 1 person at all! Oh well! I needed to save room for dessert, of course! I ordered the Cinnamon Tortilla with Vanilla Ice Cream - topped with fresh bananas and banana-caramel sauce

dis2008-05451.jpg

It was a little melty (as you can see), but I liked it. Bananas are my fav fruit, so I enjoyed those. And you really can't mess up ice cream. The tortilla part was fine. Nothing too exciting. Again, couldn't finish it, but what can you expect from one girl?!? :rotfl2:

I was out of there within an hour, which was nice, because I planned to hit up the MK for Spectro. But overall, it was a disappointing meal. The food was fine, but like when I go to 50's PTC, I go for the experience, and the food is just a topper. And I got no experience whatsoever. I may try it again, with more people, and ask to sit in the main room. But I won't be rushing back.

next up: lunch at 50's PTC

Marica... so enjoying your reports-- I am going to be at the WL and we are going to WCC cafe our 1st night. But ds is a chicken fingers only boy so I was wondering about having the skillet alone. SO glad you had it (and didn't feel self conscious?- maybe just me)...
DO you think I could take the leftovers w me (as my room and refridge is right upstairs??)

I have been reading your reviews as ds will only eat chicken fingers so I am trying all these places I have always wanted to go to...dh is a picky eater and isn't going this trip-- so we are trying boma, kona, ohana's-- morocco too maybe? told ds (11) I am using him to get to these places

Great updates, Marcia!:thumbsup2

First question - I haven't done a breakfast ADR in a few years; are they all serving some sort of Krispy Kreme product? I've seen donut holes AND donuts - YUM!

That's stinks about WCC! The whole point of that place is the entertainment! Sorry you didn't get to experience it!

Can't wait for the next review!

Great update as usual Marsh! I'm thinking about WCC but not sure, the shrimp look yummy as did the dessert!! Bananas are my fav. also!!

Thanks for posting the pictures of your food. Your reviews were helpful since I am planning my ADRs for January.

You make me want to try and get a ressie at Yak n Yeti! That looks right up my alley! Yum!

Sorry WCC wasn't all you hoped. We didn't love it when we were there either.
We had a bit of the antics but for us the night we were there the food wasn't so hot.

Allyson :)

I sure am enjoying your reviews. There is so much food. Usually I get hungry when I look at these but with yours all I can think is "How does such a small person eat all of that?". I know that you didn't finish a lot of it. The chicken app for Yak & Yeti looked like it was big enough for a meal for two. Looked yummy too!

WOW!!! Wonderful reviews!! I hope that when DH and I go this New Year we have just as good a review as you!:worship:

We treated ourselves and got the PREMIUM DINING PLAN!! (It is our Christmas present to each other.:rotfl: )

Reading your reviews makes me so hungry!! Keep up the great review!:hyper:

My entree was the Pho - Lemon grass scented broth, poached shrimp, rice noodles, tranditional Vietnamese garnishes.

dis2008-05433.jpg

Oops! I forgot to take the picture till after I ate it. There were shrimp in there. Lots of them too. That's mainly what I ate, the shrimp. Didn't have much of the noodles, but they were good too. Again, huge portion, easily could have been shared.
I am so glad to see pictures of this dish. Are you a pho fan? When made properly, it is one of my favorites. Is this one authenic? Does it have a star anise flavor? They got the garnishes right, so I'm hoping the pho flavor is correct too. I can't wait to try it!!!! Thanks!!!!

This is probably off topic (Sorry Marcia! PS--I love your reviews!), but... is Pho made from chicken or beef broth? I am a pescetarian and would so eat this if it were made from some sort of fish or even vegetable and lemongrass stock--yum!

Pho is traditionally made with beef stock, but who knows how yak n yeti make it.

Can't wait to see what you had at 50's Prime time, I will be there in July! Thanks for all the food porn.
