Solo Deluxe Dining, Apr 30 - May 7, w/pics!

Breakfast at Crystal Palace is always a must for the family and I. Can't wait to go again--your Food Porn report is getting me excited about our next trip (1 year to go :thumbsup2 )

The Plaza, dinner, 05.02.08

It was my Pirate and Princess Party night (woo hoo!), so I scheduled an early dinner at the Plaza, at 4:50pm I think. After I napped the afternoon away, I caught a bus back to the MK, killed a little time, then checked in at 4:40pm for my dinner. Well about 2 minutes later, I was seated in the back by a window.

I was taking notes in my little notebook, when the 2 ladies next to me noticed and asked who I was writing a trip report for! Tee hee, am I that obvious?? :rotfl: Ends up they were down there running the Minnie Marathon that weekend, and were from a different website. I didn't write down their names, but hi ladies!

Anyway, so for my appy, I had my choice of soup or salad. Not much for choices at the Plaza, but that's okay. I've had the vegetarian chili before and enjoyed it, so I went with that.

dis2008-05152.jpg

It was as good as I remembered. But it also had olives in it, as I also remembered, so I picked those out. I don't do olives (you can even see a couple that I picked out before snapping the pic!). First time I had this here, I realized that it's the same chili that they have at Columbia Harbour House, at least, I think it is. So yes, good veg chili.

Keeping with the vegetarian theme, I went with the vegetarian sandwich for my main meal.

dis2008-05153.jpg

No, I'm not a vegetarian (obviously, by some other things you've seen me eat), but I do tend to sway that way sometimes. This sandwich was so good! Mozzarella, hummus, veggies, some of my favorite things! But since I knew I still had dessert to come, I ate around most of the bread. Not that there was anything wrong with it, it was fine bread, but I just wasn't all that hungry.

Speaking of dessert, I ordered the brownie sundae

dis2008-05154.jpg

I asked to have the brownie heated, but they said they couldn't do that, since it was a fudge brownie and would just melt. Oh well. It was still good! Nice vanilla bean ice cream, I think vanilla bean ice cream goes perfectly with brownies. May just be me, but I thought it was a great combo. Add in hot fudge and whipped cream, and I'm a happy girl :goodvibes

So the Plaza isn't really anything to get excited about, but I like it just fine for what it is - a sandwich and salad joint, with some good ice cream to top it off. Plus, it's a great value (well, not a great value on the ddp, but paying OOP, it's not that expensive!) I'll definitely be returning.

next up: b'fast at Tusker House

We've never been to the Plaza before and are going for lunch on our next trip. Maybe for a burger, heard they were pretty good. I don't really like any of the CS burgers, so I'm looking forward to it! Thanks for the review.:thumbsup2

Hi
Everything looks so good!! I'm really enjoying your reviews. I've never tried the plaza, but after seeing the vegetarian sandwich and the brownie sundae, I'm going to try it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the review. Honestly, I never knew the Plaza or Tony's Town Square existed before; nice to get some feedback.

Anxiously awaiting review of Tusker House! It was our favorite CS in AK - very sad it became a TS.:sad2: Hope it was worth it!

Excellent report so far. I can't wait to read more.:goodvibes

Glad to hear about the plaza, as I hadn't seen too much about it before now! The sandwhich looked yummy!

The sandwich did look delicious, it's not something I would have chosen but it looks so nice that I obviously need to be more adventurous :thumbsup2

I like the veggie pizzas! But I do need to be more adventurous, my next solo I will! Also really thinking about DxDDP for me !!

Tusker House, breakfast, 05.03.08

On my Animal Kingdom day, I decided to do an early Tusker House breakfast, to be done in time for park opening. After a late night at the P&P Party, it was a bit tough getting up, but I did it, and was at the bus stop by 7am, and waited for a bus until 7:35! But it was okay, got there in plenty of time for my 8:05am ADR.

On the way in, they take your picture in front of some African themed background, at least, that's what I think it's supposed to be. I didn't buy the picture, but as you know if you've read my trip report, I'm a big fan of taking a picture of a picture :rolleyes1
dis2008-05296.jpg

Oh, and I noticed in my pics, I did have them take the pic w/my camera too!
dis2008-05292.jpg

Thrilling, I know. Get to the good stuff already! The food!

I was seated in a room off to the side, and was told to go ahead and start on the buffet, as the characters would start coming around in a little while. So off I went, for my first trip.

dis2008-05293.jpg

Here we have some sort of omelet, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and a Krispy Kreme donut. I am a huge fan of sweet potatoes, and these were really good. I don't remember much about the omelet, but I did enjoy the regular potatoes, too. The KK donut I only got because I wanted a bite, which I had, then left the rest.

dis2008-05294.jpg

Next plate was Mickey waffle, bread pudding w/vanilla sauce, chocolate/apricot (i think!) bread, pineapple, and grapes. The Mickey waffle was good as usual. The bread pudding was delish! Guess we can tell I like my sweets at breakfast, now can't we?? The bread was dry, so I only had a bite. And fruit is fruit. But it was fresh, which was good.

Then who do I see, but Donald Duck himself!
dis2008-05297.jpg

I saw Mickey was on his way, but my waiter assured me I had enough time to make another quick trip to the buffet. So off I went!

dis2008-05299.jpg

More bread pudding, cottage cheese w/pineapple, Mickey waffle, and more of the omelet. So, I guess I liked the omelet, seeing as I got more of it! But I honestly don't remember. Nothing else really exciting on this plate, as I already told you about the delish bread pudding!

Then it was time for the characters, who came pretty much one after the other, which was nice for time purposes.

And since it was noted on my ADR that I was celebrating my b'day, I received a cupcake. Didn't eat any of it, but I think it was bigger than the one I had gotten at the Crystal Palace and Akershus. Another nice vacationer took my pic as I blew out the candle.

And here's the cupcake up close
dis2008-05304.jpg

Blue is my favorite color, so I enjoyed that fact, even though, like I said, I didn't even try a bite!

At this b'fast, I sat next to a couple who was also from the DIS. So, notnothin and wife, hi! if you're reading this! They were awesome, took some pics for me, and were just really nice "tablemates". :goodvibes

On the way out, I snagged a cinnamon raisin bagel, cream cheesed it, and threw it in a ziploc that I had with me (see, those ziplocs come in handy! carry them around!). Also picked up a banana. Sorry, didn't take pics of those. And cause I didn't have enough food on the Deluxe Plan...right? Hehe. Well, I actually didn't have a lunch planned, but a late dinner at a 2TS place, so I was planning for that...but I changed that around anyway!

I was done w/breakfast and out at "rope drop" by 8:45am. And the CM's told us they wouldn't drop the rope till the crowd from the front arrived, but they did end up giving us a bit of a head start, which was nice. I know this is about the food, but figured I'd let you know about that anyway, in case people make this ressie hoping to beat rope drop. It was perfect to grab a FP for Safari, then ride Safari. Don't know how it would work out for you if you planned to hit Everest first, which I normally would if I was with others, but since I was by myself, I knew I'd just use the single rider line.

Anyway, sorry about that bit of a tangent! The food was good for breakfast. And the characters were good too. So go to Tusker House for early breakfast. It's good stuff.

next up: lunch @ Yak and Yeti

Another great update! We have an ADR for the Safari Breakfast in August and I was excited to see your review.:yay:

since i seem to actually have some time this evening, i think i'm going to go ahead and do another one right now! so stay tuned...it's coming!!!

Yak and Yeti, lunch, 05.03.08

This was an unplanned lunch. Originally, I had only planned b'fast and dinner for this day. I was going to have dinner at Artist Point (2 TS), but decided that it was way too long between b'fast and dinner, and that I needed lunch. Go figure. So I walked into Y&Y around noon to see if they had anything for a bit later in the afternoon, around 2ish. Well, they were wide open! So I got a 2pm ADR. Went along to cancel Artist Point, and snagged a late WCC ADR instead (only 1 TS).

With all the technicalities out of the way, let's move along to the food. Last time I ate here, I ordered an alcoholic beverage, the Yak Attack, and it was really good. But I decided to just stick to what was included in the plan, and went for an unsweetened iced tea instead. I had to ask for a refill a couple of times before I actually got one, so that's not so good for the restaurant.

I was given a nice window table though, upstairs. So that was nice. Here's the view out the window
dis2008-05434.jpg

For my appy, I ordered the Lettuce Cups - minced chicken breast, chopped vegetables, maple tamarind sauce, crisp lettuce cups.

dis2008-05432.jpg

Oh my goodness! These things were so good, and huge! I swear, at least 3 or more people could share this as an appetizer. They weren't spicy, but the chicken mixture had a bite to it. I thought it was really good.

My entree was the Pho - Lemon grass scented broth, poached shrimp, rice noodles, tranditional Vietnamese garnishes.

dis2008-05433.jpg

Oops! I forgot to take the picture till after I ate it. There were shrimp in there. Lots of them too. That's mainly what I ate, the shrimp. Didn't have much of the noodles, but they were good too. Again, huge portion, easily could have been shared.

Now on to dessert. MMM. Yummy! I got the Mango Pie
dis2008-05435.jpg

This was so good! I don't even know how to describe it, but seriously, delicious dessert. Nice and smooth and creamy. Light mango taste. Just good. For real. Haha, sorry I can't be more descriptive. I'd imagine it would be similar to Key Lime Pie, but Mango instead, although, I don't know that I've ever tried Key Lime Pie. So a lot of help I am!

Oh, and I just noticed my coffee in the picture. Guess Y&Y was another place that allowed me to have my coffee with my dessert.

Anyway, overall, the food itself was good. The server left a little to be desired, what with not refilling my drink, and not really checking on me after the runners brought the food. But oh well. I'm sure I'll be back. Especially if it's still so easy to walk up with no problem.

up next: dinner @ Whispering Canyon Cafe
