Social distancing on a cruise: what changes would you actually enjoy?

That's hard to implement.. usually the atrium gets real crowded around MDR dinner times with all the characters there for pictures and what not.. one way I see they could lower the atrium crowds is to do photo and character sessions outside on deck 4 or deck 11 but it seems ppl like to converge in the atrium bc its close to the MDRs and so much is happening there at nights with the singers, bars nearby etc.
They need to figure out a way to move a lot of the entertainment outdoors.

Yes, like you said, they could easily change the location of the characters.

I wonder if they also could create outdoor seating for some bars and restaurants? But I imagine deck 4 has to be « clear« in case there’s an evacuation...

timed dinner times, as in half the people for early dinner at told to arrive at 6.00pm and the second half of people are told to arrive at 6.30pm , and the same staggered seating times for late dinner
The problem there is you still wind up with the same number of bodies in the dining room during the time period for each seating, regardless of when they arrived. As mentioned in many threads, the table spacing in the dining rooms doesn't conform to the desired 6 feet of spacing between people. And those people will not be wearing masks.

but that assumes that there are the same amount of people as before Covid. eg if before Covid the MDR capacity was 200 people, then when sailings restart it will be 100 people, therefore 50 people at first seating of early dinner, 50 people at second seating of early dinner. If they did something like that, they would be able to have less tables and bigger space between tables. Here in Ireland, before our lockdown closed restaurants, thats what they did, reduced tables, spaced out tables, put plexi glass between tables and so much more. People had to book a time, so that people were seated at intervals.

If it‘s 100 in the same room for 90 min+ they better have the best filtration system of the whole wide world if they plan to do that.

Here, they calculate the max capacity of each shop and classes to make sure there is a least 6ft between each person. Restaurants had to be 25% before they closed.

If I translate that to cruising, restaurants on small ships have a 442 guest capacity (I my info is correct). That would be more or less 55 persons per seating. DCL would therefore have to sail with 330 guests on board to insure that each of them have a seat in the dining room, unless they create more dining space.

Could certain bars be temporarily reassigned as dining rooms before 11:00 PM?

At best, they would have to sail at 500 guests capacity. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a dream come true for guests but if they have to do that for a year, they will have to cut costs here and there.

Oh and by the way, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them do like they do with certain characters appearances and book tickets.
