BTW - Are you aware that Alison, Usnuz, Dana and I have a date for the 1st week in October for 2013 at WDW? At this stage, Kitty34 and Bobbiwoz are planning on being there as well.

:rolleyes1

So the party is at WDW in October. Sounds fun, but I think I'm low on DVC points for 2013. I borrow a bunch for our Nov 2012 trip to DL.

I've been to the Big Island twice and I'm a volcano addict. I visited Maui when i was 10, but never been to Kauai.

Napa Rose was awesome (as usual). We made some new friends and got to sit in one of the special rooms.

Do I need a full week for the Big Island or can I squeeze in quite a bit in 5 days?

So are you members of Westin or exchanged through Interval and did the tour?

Loved the Westin Villas

I wish I was a Westin member, but no we traded in and did the tour. We loved the Westin Villas too.

I need to win the lottery so I can buy into the Westin too.

You could probably do it in 5 days. It's been a long time since I was there last, late 80s.

I am so tired of cleaning! :faint: Everything in this place is covered in nicotine residue. we wiped down the window frames and brown liquid just streamed down the sides. It's like I fill the bucket with water and TSP, I wash two cabinet doors and I have a bucket full of nasty brown water and have to start all over.

I'm gonna wash one more cabinet in the kitchen and I'm done.

Not really its in the carpet and the walls. We're treating mainly the glossy surfaces. Back home now. I am so done, but we're not finished yet. I'll try to get some of the pictures up.

What make Hawaii so much better?

There is so much more to see and do. So much more natural beauty.
Far less civil unrest and water borne diseases.
Far safer
The number of Australians alone who have been injured and killed in Bali is quite astonishing. There is no enforced codes for building quality and workmanship so a kid was killed just touching a lit up sign... :confused3

Fiji - the government has a tendency to coup's
There's very little to do there...
The main reason people go there is to go to the locked up and secure resorts and do nothing. They might wander via TOUR to the impoverished villages before leaving again in luxury.
If I want to go to somewhere to do nothing I'll pay the extra to go to the Great Barrier Reef...or HAWAII..
I know I'm less likely to get a disease or killed...

I think 5 days is plenty for the Big Island

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I agree...
I'd love to be a member

Here I'm thinking we have two years before we go back to Hawaii and this afternoon my sister pipes up I think we need to go after Maddi's (my niece) graduation from sixth grade. What??? That could be anytime after June 2012. All my 2012 and half my 2013 points are already used up. What's she thinking? Gotta love those that don't understand how we have to plan ahead.:rotfl:

The only reason I was think 5 days at the Big Island is so I could sneak back to Aulani for a few days.

You are taking the carpet out right? Maybe you will find it better if that's done first.

DH said to go to the janitorial supply store and get a deodarizing block to put in the vents. Smoke gets trapped in there and then when people run it they wonder why they still get the smell.

He is having to use a ozone machine this week for smoke smell. Those machines cost alot of money.

Ok, so here's some shots of my personal he!!

Not sure if you can make it out, but there were pictures or a clock on the wall here, so those are the parts of the wall that are their original color.

This is a picture of the opposite wall

And looking at the wall that leads to the kitchen.

This is a better shot of the first wall.

Here is a shot of the window frame that I cleaned today. I took this yesterday to indicate the damage to the windowsill, but what I found today was how disgusting the post in the corner between these two windows was. Those brown spots you see are all nicotine build up. :scared1:

You can see it in this one too.

This is one of the Living Room light switches.

Moving on to the kitchen....how'd you like to prepare dinner here?

Not sure you'd want to invoke the 3 second rule here.

And then there's the bathroom

Within a few weeks, the place will be unrecognizable!

Oh I feel for you Alison, that's so nasty. Our house when we bought it from my father-in-law (he hadn't lived there for quite a few years) was just as bad if not worst after having two families living here that smoked and never cleaned or repaired anything. It was so bad we ended up taking everything down to the studs and starting over. DH ended up taking the pink toilet out back and shooting it he was so disgusted. My father-in-law pasted away before we ever finished it.:sad2:

Oh yeah...loving the pink bath. Will you re-enamel or replace?

My Grandmother was a smoker (she started before they knew the realities) and so our upstairs is all like that. [Like a granny flat type extension up there in the 70s]
Although she went into the nursing home for quite some time before she died just over a year ago we still haven't tackled it. :sad2:
It will need to be done but emotionally it will be very hard so until we 'need' to I don't see it happening. We never lived up there so we don't use it for anything other than storage really.
Because of the smell I wonder at times if some of the stuff we store up there will get a smell. But it's still better than a storage facility.

I would think washing the walls and everything down first would be best as if it lands on carpet or whatever it won't matter.

It amazes me the dedication you are putting in with all the places.

My DBF finally moved to a rented place a month ago and you get NOTHING appliance wise. Other than a cooktop and oven. And this is typical in the UK. No Dishwasher.
No blinds, No window furnishings at all.

Took it out back and shot it? Just like that old dog?

You are taking the carpet out right? Maybe you will find it better if that's done first.

The contractor is going to handle all that part. They are probably going to do the flooring last so that they can drip paint all over the carpeting. We only have a few more days of work, then the Contractor takes over. We just wanted to prep some of the surfaces so that we knew they were done right.

There arent any vents. The heater you saw in the picture is it for that place. We're going to clean the heater itself, but there's not a lot of places for the smoke to hide in there.

Pink hardware in the bathroom. Vintage!

We don't have the money to change the pink tub and shower, but the toilet is going. When the #2 apartment had it's water damage and the bathroom had to be gutted, it got a remodel to white and tan. However, 3-5 all have pink tubs and showers and 4 & 5 have pink toilets still.

Took it out back and shot it? Just like that old dog?

Pretty much. He might have toasted it with a beer beforehand. Between his Dad dying right after we bought the house and his two siblings and their families destroying the house it was an emotional time. It took eight months of nights and weekends before we could move in.
