Any guesses on whether Disney announces another sold out resort with incentives after the current AKL incentives end tomorrow. I’m still to new to the game to know if there’s precedent for this or not.

If you are on the verge of buying. Just buy now, and should they come out with a new or better incentive tomorrow you can always ask them to redo the contract.

They have been doing incentives on sold out resorts often, so there is a chance yes. Id be sure to do the math to make sure it's really worth it vs resale.

This 100%! I almost added 150 direct points at AKV with this latest promotion. However, when I sat down and looked at the numbers, I just couldn't justify spending an extra $20,000 for blue card benefits. For our family, the value is just not there. I am back on the hunt for more resale points! lol

Was your math "AKV vs nothing" or "AKV direct vs AKV resale" (as suggested by the post you responded to)?

If looking vs resale, the "direct vs resale" difference should not be an extra $20K for 150 points. That'd be $~133/pt difference. Don't forget you also probably have the MB option, that may also make the loaded/stripping comparison vs resale more fair after you drop the price by an extra $20.

You are correct. The $20,000 figure was just for dramatic affect lol. It's actually closer to $15,000 difference (AKV direct vs resale for 150 pts). I spoke with our guide regarding MB options. Unfortunately, since we are Canadian, we cannot take advantage of this offer. For 150 points direct the cost is $195/point with the current incentives. I can get resale for ~$95 - $100/point.

Bottom line for our family, I just don't see the value in spending so much more for direct points when the benefits aren't that beneficial for us. We are not bothered by the resale restrictions either.

FYI, starting September 30 2025, there will be a new FIRPTA rule soon forcing international buyers to essentially get an ITIN just to buy because they will be required to open an EFTPS account for the sale to go through.

I completely agree. I can't imagine buying one of the original fourteen resorts direct.

Others, I'm sure, have different and valid opinions, but for me, the reasons to buy direct are pretty small:

(1) access to newer resorts, ideally with a home resort being one of those resorts for the 11 months window. For me, I'm thinking about a small add on at VDH for this. My wife goes about half of the time with me. Other times I meet up with friends. Or go solo. A duo room in VDH is a significant cost savings over GCV, even with the TOT. I spent six nights in GCV solo this past year. I think GCV is a better resort than VDH--love the pool at GCV. But still if I had the option to go solo in a duo room at VDH, I probably would've done that and saved about 70-75 points. That's somewhere around $1,500 for the year--but I should probably subtract out the TOT from the potential savings. So $1,300-ish. And that's a typical year. So to me, this makes some financial sense, also create access to something that I don't have with resale. Again, I'm looking at a 75 point add on, not 150, so the cost delta here is smaller. (Side note: I'm fine solo in a duo room, but man, they feel cramped with two people.).

(2) access to sorcerer's passes (available to FL locals and DVC), which are about $500 cheaper than incredapasses (available to anyone--and are the only option for most DVC resale owners living outside FL). If you had a family of four, the savings between these two options would add up to $15k in about seven years, which would also justify the purchase price difference.

For me all of the other things--various discounts, lounges, etc.--are nice, but simply can't justify the the additional $15k-ish for direct over resale, especially for an older resort, like AKV (which I love).

I agree the membership benefits alone are hardly worth the direct premium.

Even though I am 100% resale, for some reason I've been getting the dining and merch discount all year. The discount even auto-applied last week when I made a to-go mobile order at Sanaa.

Saving $500 on an annual pass and moonlight magic aren't really enticing enough for me, but I will still fail to resist I'm sure and end up adding 150-200 points at Poly at some point. The Mouse and its Jedi mind tricks man...

Are you an AP holder? Discounts for Sanaa, etc., are identical.

I can imagine a family of 4 would save 2k a year just on APs - I do think it makes sense for RIV and VDH as you are not comparing the same product.

I do not see it for most non-restricted resorts for a single person, but if they offer a fire sale on CCV direct I may delete this post and deny ever saying that.

Agreed, its insanity.

*edit*
I meant 2042 direct is insane, not all 14 originals

There's nothing wrong with buying a legacy resort direct, I'm perfectly happy with my SSR purchase. I get cheaper APs, lounge access and unrestricted points. Totally worth it.

Yea, actually i meant 2042 direct, not all 14 originals. I'd buy OKW, BLT, Poly, or CCV direct if the incentives made it more worthy, but buying 2042 direct is what seems insane to me.
