. . . act like a homophobe?

Okay, I'd heard about the judge's completely inappropriate behavior on So You Think You Can Dance when the male/male couple auditioned, and wrote it off as and idiotic judge.

Now I read this article on AfterElton and I have to say, they're right.

http://www.afterelton.com/TV/2009/5/sytycd-packaged-homophobia?page=0,0

It wasn't just the judge (who deserves to be fired, but since he's the executive producer, that's not going to happen) it was everyone on the production.

Sad to think that in the year 2009 this kind of thing can happen, and on a DANCE show to boot!

Yeah. I saw that this morning. It made me angry to think they allowed this to air.

Geez! What jerks! The facial expressions in the pic.s really told the story.

It's really sad. This show is one of our favorite reality series. You would think that a show full of gay guest judges, gay contestants, not to mention how popular this show is in the gay community, that they would alientate themselves by doing something like manufacturing this sort of portrayal on national TV. I'm really surprised at Lithgow's reaction and comments. I was totally caught off guard. But it's more of the production people I'm angry at.

I'm not sure I can continue watching the series.

I'm not really surprised by Nigel's comments. He's often commented on how he prefers men who dance like men. I watched the episode and it didn't really bother me until thinking about it later and again now after reading the article. I've always thought that SYTYCD should be more supportive of gays and more forward thinking. At least it solves one problem for me. My RecordedTV drive on my Media Center is nearly full. Only thing old on it are the past seasons of SYTYCD. Buh Bye! I'm deleting them when I get back from my trip. As much as I like the show I am tired of the comments and I think it's time I voice my disatisfaction by no longer watching it.

I hope the backlash from this hits them hard and fast.

The local Fox news team pulled out of the Orlando Gay Pride event last year.

I am disgusted by the entire thing. I refuse to watch Fox news (no real loss there) and don't watch many reality shows anyway.

However, that does not excuse the extreme homophobia that was endorsed by the station and voiced by those so called judges.

Absolutely disgusting.

I went to the site to protest, and was not surprised that this show was on the FOX network. Turns out that Nigel has issued a stock apology for his behavior .... as if it matters. What else did we expect from FOX??? :headache:

I keep thinking my opinion of Fox can't get any lower and they keep finding ways to prove me wrong:sad2: I am at a loss for words about this one:headache: I do hope that viewership drops dramatically and instantaneously.

I caught the clip of this on The Soup over here. Sure, they were mildly poking fun at the couple, but they chose a much better punchline: "I bet Miss California's head exploded when she saw that."

Which is fine.

Lythgoe's comments and the editing of the show however are not. I had no idea they did this.

This is another sad example of double standards - they certainly would not have allowed this if they were racial remarks.

I'm embarrassed that Lythgoe is from Britain.
