In 6 years of ownership we've transferred twice. One was a transfer out when we figured it would be insane to go to WDW the same year we were adopting our DS...and the second was a transfer in when we realized it was perfectly sane after all and we needed points to book his 1st birthday trip!

I have done 2 transfers, ever, and they were both in the last year. One transfer was for 150 points, to help out someone planning a family get-together, and the other was for 10 points to help someone complete a reservation.

Did you just give them away or did you get something for them?

We have never done a transfer.
If we ever need to, I'm sure once a year would cover our needs.

We've only been owners a couple of years. We bought more points than we need now, but what we think we will need in the future. I have never transfered points, although I definitely see uses to it when I want a big trip, but we do rent out the points we don't need now. We rent about 90-100 points a year. As soon as our schedules free up a little, we plan on going more often. Right now its been twice a year, short trips. I wonder how this is going to affect us.

I haven't transfered any ..... they're MINE all MINE ....

My rule has been...any extended family or friends who want to go ...MUST take ME with them :teeth: :teeth:

My in-laws transfer to us all the time. They've done it twice this year. They've been members since '96, moved to Florida in '02. When we're low on points they bump us a night or two's worth of points, or if they have points about to expire and we're headed down, or if they want to treat us, they'll give us points to upgrade to a one-bedroom.

The change will be a pain but I think I'll just have to be more organized. And if they want to treat us to something, they'll have to make the reservations, rather than giving us the points and letting me deal with it.

Oh well!

I do wonder if I explained the situation, given that we all have the same last name, if member services would bend the rules since we're obviously not abusing the system by renting points. But I'll try to be more organized so as to avoid trying to find out ;-)!

I've had points transferred to my account twice last year.

Not picking on you POOH&PIGLET, but I've seen a number of responses like this. I am curious why people are so certain that they will only need to transfer once per year if they need points. I think people are underestimating how hard it is to find someone that has the exact number of points available that you require.

I am not saying that I am going to have to have points transferred into my account for 2 or more different reasons every year. But it most likely will require 2 transfers. Let's say I need 350 points. I am probably not going to find someone who has exactly 350 points available at the price I am willing to pay. In the past, I would monitor the boards and maybe find someone who I felt was trustworthy and had a reasonable asking price and had say 200 points available. I would take these 200 points and then look for someone else to transfer the remianing 150 points that I needed.

Now this second person may have been trying to get rid of 250 points, but agreed to transfer 150 to me and then found someone else to take the other 100 points.

Now that everyone is limited to only one transfer, this "match-making" has become a lot more difficult. Now if I need 350 points, I may have to approach someone with 400 points available and they will probably require me to take all 400 points.

I really think people are understimating the effect this is going to have on them in that one year when they need points for that big family trip.

Believe it or not, but I'm a new member and my very first transfer in worked out exactly that way. I figured out how many points I needed to transfer in to cover various room combinations we might use for a family trip of 5 different families, 12 people total. The most I needed would be 121. When I went to post my "transfer wanted" thread on that board, I found someone with BWV points offering to transfer 120! I took it. :)

So, now I can say the rule hasn't really affected me, like it won't affect most people. But I consider myself to be very very lucky that someone with points at my resort was offering a transfer within 1 point of what I wanted, just when I wanted it.
