I just did it. Transferred points do not have a banking window. MS have to manually put them into you account. I did it on Friday. I put 05 transferred points into my 06 uy. MS could not do it while I was on the phone but I checked my account online and it is done. I had a MS rep tell me about the transfer rule.

Call and ask them. I have done it on a few occasions. I don't want to spoil your 06uy but it says per uy

I will call MS tomorrow and ask them, thanks.

MS would not let you make another transfer for your reservation after Aug 1 because you did a transfer in the last 12 months?

The only transfer I have ever made was just that one. MS was very helpful. I don't see the one a year being a big problem. But that is for me. Others situations could very well be different.

MS did not hold the ones I had made before Aug 1st against me. It's like Aug 1st is the start date for MS for enforcement and the one transfer.

My husband and I are hosting all of his family, none of them are DVC members. We are the members so we have to do the work. I certainly don't expect them to pay for a trip we invited them to (and we HAVE already invited them...)

Yep. Good luck on a number of levels.

I suspect that if you approach MS with a friendly "Can you help me?" attitude, you will have a lot more luck than someone with a rental website and a dozen listings on eBay.

I wish you good luck also, Based on the past posting history here the transfers will be the LEAST of your trouble. Seems like every few months someone has to vent about their family who 2 weeks before the trip decides that "nope, they won't go" Even if it was FREE!! That's why some posters advise charging. If they have to give you MONEY they might actually feel comitted.

I own two memberships, this year I have a large family gathering planned I needed to transfer all of my OKW points into one account and I also rented a transfer of OKW points to cover additional accommodations at the 11 month window. So in a year such as this the limit on transfers would effect me.

I had points transferred into my account once from my friends. I own at OKW and I booked a Grand Villa for all of us. They transferred points from their BWV account into my BWV account to cover their half.

I would prefer that DVC would allow more transfers. I think it hobbles regular members.

But like I said, this is a gift to them which has already been "given" to them. All have accepted and all this is left to do is for me to figure out what rooms we need and for which exact dates. I would never charge my immediate family for staying at DVC with us. (These are my DH's parents and his brother/sisters and spouses/family who we invited.)
Well, that and also getting a transfer in to our account for the extra BWV points we will need.

I understand what you are saying... However, all the posts I read on family members cancelling at the last minute were "gifts" LOL!

The common view seems to be that folks don't understand things like "borrowing" and "transferring" they view it as "he can just cancel his reservation and use it later" And as we all know it's not that easy.

See this thread for an example

I did just call Member Services this afternoon to ask about this. The person I talked to said yes, I can transfer points in to my 2005 UY and bank them to my 2006UY, even though I'm in the last two months of the 2005 UY. She said the restrictions on banking transferred points within the same rules as your own points though "are coming" but for right now, there are no limits on banking transferred points.

Now that I think about it though, I think I still can't transfer points in to my account until after Oct 1 when I am in my 2006 UY. I need to bank 2006 points to 2007 UY for the December, 2007 family trip. If I get the points transferred in now and bank them to 2006 (Oct 1, 2006 to Sept 30, 2007) I don't think I can bank them again to 2007. Can I?

IF I can figure out how to do this, there will be a poll here.

Here's the question, in the last year have you transferred MORE then one time (either in or out?) I would think a lot of folks are like me and never transferred at all.
What is exactly meant by transfer? Is that selling your points to another DVC member or is that renting to a non-DVCer? I haven't done either but I really don't know what it means.

WOW! I never dreamed we would get almost 300 responses.... (My only other attempt at a poll on the DIS got about 10 so this is interesting)

A transfer is assigning your points to another member and they become their points. Technically a member is not supposed to receive any compensation for the transfer of their points to another member.

It is an amazing response. I'm trying to decide if the three people who answered, "Yes, I am running a business buying low and selling high and Disney is shutting me down." were telling the truth or they were just stirring the pot.

So you're just supposed to give your points away?

I guess i could see doing this and/or renting only if I was in danger of losing the points I forgot to bank

It isn't just transfering "out" that you can do. You can also transfer "in" and pay someone else for the use of their points if you need extra points above what you can bank and borrow for a particular trip.

so by transfering, you mean buying or selling points to a member. renting would be to a non-member

Now that I think about it though, I think I still can't transfer points in to my account until after Oct 1 when I am in my 2006 UY. Points can only be banked once so points banked to 2006 UY need to be used then and cant be banked forward again.
