So What Do Your Kids Want for Christmas?

DD9 has always been the kid that wants BIG stuff...she got her snowboard last week, and will get her boots and bindings when they come in. Thats her BIG gift...she'll get a couple dvds, etc. for christmas morning

DD8 wants cabbage patch dolls, my little ponies, doodle bears, etc. etc. more small stuff than anything big...

My kids just want everything. But then again, they have everything. Santa doesn't bring a lot, and either do mom & dad (us) - but by the end of the day after visits from the families.....our house is PACKED!!

DD6 will probably get some DVDs, CDs, GBA games, board games, littlest pets, stuff to decorate her room - have no idea what her "substantial, yet not-too-expensive" gift will be.

DS4 is getting a Little Tykes CD boombox to listen to music in his room (like his big sis) and a few CDs to go with it, maybe a GBA if I can get a good deal on it so he can stop "borrowing" his sisters.

Has anyone bought & used the $20 kids digital camera that TRU sells? I think they sell it at Target too. I thought that would be good for DD6, but was curious as to how it holds up & if the software it comes with is any good.

So far all Kara (14) wants - and it has been ordered - is her high school letter jacket - of course she won't receive her letters until next spring - but jacket and letters are on sale now

Maybe a Game Boy game or PS2 game - depends on what comes out between now and then

DS 11 wants an IPOD Nano (alreadly bought) and a few playstation games. He will also get an ESPN Jersey he picked out in WDW from us and probably a gift card for ITUNES.

DS 6 wants a Sandisk MP3 player, a gamecube game and some board games.

DS 3 besides everything on TV he wants Shake and Go racetrack and a game I cannot rememeber (but I see it on TV all the time.) I also got him a Video Now Jr. on sale at Target.

Besides that my attic is full of three big bags from Toys R Us. I go overboard at Christmas and love doing it.

My ds is asking for an ipod, cds, dvd, either games for ps2 or gc to gamestop so he can buy what he wants, anything New York Yankees or Derek Jeter and a watch.. My youngest dd isnt supposed to get anything because me and her went to WDW in September for Labor Day Weekend and that was her Christmas/Birthday present but of course Santa is buying her some gifts Getting her an airbrushed baseball helmet for next baseball season, shes ;gotten 4 board games, a lapboard carrier.. not sure yet what else Santa might bring

This is exactly what is so wrong about Christmas! All this materialism and commercialism really make it difficult to remember the joy of the season. Fortunately, DS13 has not even mentioned gifts and if this is like other years, he will not ask for a thing. We do not participate in the "giving orgy" in our house. We exchange gifts that come from the heart, not from some idealized list of demands/expectations.

Wow, it took 19 posts for someone to say what bad parents we are for giving our children gifts that don't come from the "heart". News flash: I don't have to give DD a cigar box covered in glitter and macaroni for her to know that any gift she gets comes from our heart and the biggest is love.
And since when could the word "orgy" be used here?

DD-11 ONLY wants an Ipod,

DS- 5 wants a little tykes truck with a trailer and a four-wheeler (we got it for his b-day in 2 weeks) and his own 'video game thing' (for whichwe wold have to buy him a tv too )

DD- 1 1/2 - will like the boxes but we will still overinduldge and either buy her a little tykes playhouse or the princess jeep!! CUZ WE CAN!


BTW - I REALLY thought about this a while back...
we are almost forced to overinduldge our kids these days - society is not safe for kids to go for a walk into the woods, build tree houses, and skip rocks in a stream... can't squish penneys on the train tracks, and all the stuff we did when we were kids... no more - Just come home when the street lights come on. We are forced to make sure they are well entertained at home - and out of trouble...

You're so right Patty. This certainly isn't the world I grew up in.

Now to answer the question, it's like pulling teeth to get DD to tell us what she would like. She is really appreciative of any and everything she gets and I've never seen a child like her. She gets very excited about Christmas but doesn't like asking for things. We pay close, close attention throughout the year if she ever says something is really "neat" or she seems "attracted" to certain items. She always has a great Christmas but it is really hard to buy for her.
A funny story. I worked with a nurse who had a daughter about 5 years old. When she asked her what she wanted Santa to bring her for Christmas, the little girl said "Oh, don't worry mommy, I talked to Jesus and told him and he's gonna tell Santa". This poor woman had NO idea what her child wanted as this little girl never said a word. And how do you say "Mommy really needs to know because Santa wont get the message (because he isn't real)"? On christmas morning she was so disappointed that Jesus didn't tell Santa about the doll house she wanted. Mom and dad run out the day after and buy the doll house, wrap it and hide it in another part of the house until they could manage to get her to "find" it. Told her Santa must have dropped it on his way delivering all the other presents. The little girl was over joyed and never seem to be the wiser.

Even when I say I'm gonna cool it, we still end up with a massive gift extravaganza. I buy my children's love with a Wiggles foam couch and a Princess Easy Bake Oven. Without all those gifts, my children would never realize I loved them!! All those hugs, reading sessions, kisses, dancing, singing, arts & crafts, walks to the park, picnic lunches, etc. etc. etc. just doesn't get the point across like gifts from the heart at Christmas.

My dd (6) has a big list, but her birthday is Jan 1, so we have to buy for that too. She mostly wants dolls and stuffed animals like, Barbie Fairytopia, Bratz babies, Cabbage Patch baby, My Scene Lindsay Lohan doll, Littlest Pet shop, doodle bear, Puppy Surprise, Fur Real friends Scamp, Disney earrings, a bike and a dance mat.

DS (10) wants a Roboraptor, realistic light saber, xbox games, razor electric scooter, videocam now, zero gravity remote control vehicle and ultimate light saber.

My girls want Americal Girl dolls and accessories (got it), Calico critter sets (done), new sleds, DVD's, CD's, iPod (maybe), camcorder (if Santa say so ) girly girl things, plus anything else fun!

I love Christmas and my girls appreciate everything about the season from baking cookies, decorating the tree, celebrating Jesus, going to church, adopting our holiday family and shopping for them together (when I just got our family information yesterday) and waiting for Santa Claus.

My kids get all of the above. Well, except that nasty Wiggle couch! There is nothing wrong with giving lots of gifts as long as they are not a substitute for your time and love. We always go on picnics, the park, do arts and crafts, and everything else and have a wonderful time. My kids also get plenty of gifts because I love to buy for them. I personally overload little DD with toys because I play them with her. I love new toys too!!

We too adopt a family for Thanksgiving and another for Christmas. My kids favorite thing at Christmas is our annual Toys for Tots shopping spree. DD loves shopping for others as much as I do! LOL!
