I really got mad at a co-worker today and tried my best to hold my tongue. I'm getting so sick of hearing all sorts of rumors about if, when and where our boss might be moving.
Here's the background story:
In June our boss told our group that rumors where circulating that he was looking for a new job ... in another State. He did in fact confirm that he was in the running for the job and was seriously considering it. It's a great position BTW. Our boss wanted us to hear the truth from him before rumors got out of hand. In a similar situation 6 years ago he did not tell us the truth until the deal was done. By that time the rumors were out of hand! Some people even left their jobs before the move because they thought they wouldn't be offered a job at the new location (based on gossip of course).
Our boss did tell us now that he would let us know, either way, if this new position comes through. Any move would take about a year. That would allow us to decide what to do ourselves.
I took the news for what it was and decided to wait to hear the final outcome from the boss himself. I think he's honest enough to tell us the truth this time. While I'm waiting I'm also keeping an eye on the job market too, just in case.
Cut to today:
A co-worker came by to chat today and told me she ran into a former co-worker (still at the same Company as we are). Apparently, this former co-worker told the woman I work with something like "didn't you hear the news, your boss isn't moving". I asked where this other person had heard this from and my current co-worker said "oh, it's just a rumor". That's when I began to lose it. I told this woman I didn't want to hear any of this stuff, especially after the crap we heard 6 years ago. I really don't want to go through this emotional turmoil again, it's not funny. My co-worker tried to apologize and then ran out of my room. She didn't talk to me for the rest of the day. That was fine with me.
I'm just so tired of all of this. I've told this person before not to talk stupid gossip with me about our work and those around us. Yet, she keeps coming back and then freaks and runs off when I ask her to stop.
If anyone has advice for me, thanks. Being allowed to vent is great too.
