So I booked a week in Sanibel...

The Blue Dolphin has been our "home" on the island for about 5 years. It is *right* on the beach. It's an older establishment, but clean and efficient. Breakfast is usually huge muffins and other pastries, fresh fruit and coffee (and a basket of granola bars, etc. for later on).

They provide bikes, but you'll need a car to get to the eating establishments which are on the opposite end of the island. We've always liked Hungry Heron -- it's got the hugest menu I've ever seen .. and I usually end up ordernig the same thing when we go. ;)

Dolphins come and play right off the beach where you'll be at, so keep looking. This beach is great for shelling.

The only drawback to Sanibel are the no-see-ums ... teeny little black flecks that just bite the heck out of you and leave welts. Make sure you've got some bug spray (they come out at dusk and stay out until after dawn). If it's breezy, they tend not to bite as much.

Lucky you!

Sorry, no advice - just wanted to tell you that my boss and his wife just got back from their 25th anniversary trip and it sounds AMAZING! He made me want to go so bad. It sounds like paradise!!!!! :cloud9:

We have been going to Sanibel for 38 years, it's my favorite vacation spot.
We've stayed at the Blue Dolphin a few times. It's probably in the best location on the island...anywhere on West Gulf Drive is good. Blue Dolphin has one of the best shelling beaches.

Schnapper Hot Dogs is good. I love Doc Ford's Rum Bar and Grill, Green Flash, Timbers, Sanibel Grill. I would avoid Bubble Room at all costs. I've gone back a few times in last 2 or 3 years because I've been with someone who wants to try it. It get worse every time. I had been saying it was worth going to just to see it but not anymore. In November I got my "White Christmas" cake to go and it didn't even taste good.

We love the Timbers & Gramma Dot's on Sanibel and The Mucky Duck on Captiva :thumbsup2 Love shopping at all the shops along Periwinkle Way :lovestruc
