The Blue Dolphin has been our "home" on the island for about 5 years. It is *right* on the beach. It's an older establishment, but clean and efficient. Breakfast is usually huge muffins and other pastries, fresh fruit and coffee (and a basket of granola bars, etc. for later on).
They provide bikes, but you'll need a car to get to the eating establishments which are on the opposite end of the island. We've always liked Hungry Heron -- it's got the hugest menu I've ever seen .. and I usually end up ordernig the same thing when we go.
Dolphins come and play right off the beach where you'll be at, so keep looking. This beach is great for shelling.
The only drawback to Sanibel are the no-see-ums ... teeny little black flecks that just bite the heck out of you and leave welts. Make sure you've got some bug spray (they come out at dusk and stay out until after dawn). If it's breezy, they tend not to bite as much.
Lucky you!
