Just curious, we went through the ride w/o fast pass but when we got to the hhg part, they knew where we were from and knew my friends name in the doom buggy next to us.

Magic bands have regular rfid technology as well as long range (10 ft or so) rfid technology. They use the long range for stuff like this.

Don't worry though. The touch RFID is the only one used for purchase or park admission. Reading somones long range rfid wouldn't cause a gap in security.

It's cool and creepy at the same time. We got a personal farewell at Small World; personalized ghosts at the HM, and while entering the FP return line at Kali, the CM wished my daughter (by name) "Happy Graduation", as I had put in my reservation that we were celebrating her high school graduation. I thought it was pretty cool. My wife thought that all of this technology shows them how many times she goes to the bathroom, and how much food she eats. She's right, of course. Whether or not this bothers you is up to you.
