So how do you think he'll be paid?

DH will soon letting his job know that he will not be returning next year, (he's a teacher). He is paid based on a 26- week pay schedule (which is great, he gets paid through the summer). He thinks he will still get paid until August every two weeks. I think because he gave his notice, they will probably pay him all monies owed when school ends. I don't see why they would keep him on the payroll after that. What do you think? He also thinks he'll pay more in taxes if they pay him at the end of the school year instead of every two weeks thru August. :confused3

Unless it's a private school, he'll probably just be kept on payroll. My friend left a government job and was kept on payroll. It's just easier for them that way. The government doesn't like extra work, I guess.

It's a charter school. I don't know how much difference that will make.

What does the contract say? I would think it would depend too on what he stipulates as his last day.

In our district he would stay on the payroll (no lump sum). The money comes from the state each month and is then passed on through paychecks.

Here he would be kept on the payroll, unless he requested a lump sum payment, which we are able to do. The last pay in June is our whole summer pay. They will graciously collect interest on money that we have already earned. If he has the choice and is disciplined with money, take it and earn some interest for himself.

He works for a charter school, not paid by the state but by a corporation.

When I quit, I had fulfilled my contract through the end of the year - meaning I was kept on payroll with benefits until the end of the contract time in August. Won't he want to keep benefits until he starts his new contract in the Fall?

That's a really good point. He needs to check the status of that. Hadn't even thought about benefits.

I wasn't really thinking there would be a choice, just one or the other would happen. I carry health bennies so at least that wouldn't be an issue. I guess I'll read his contract and see if it mentions anything. If not, I guess we'll wait to see what happens when he informs them he won't be back next year.
