Maddie looks adorable- is she getting too old to be called adorable? :cutie:

She will never be too old to be called adorable. :goodvibes I will always call her that even if it embarrasses her!

Shelly-Have a great time!!! Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back!!!

Wookie~ We do that too! I usually am farther along on their walks by now... but with us all being sick.. we missed 2 weeks.....I think I am gonna see if they want to hit it in the morning...if dd doesn't still have fever... I think she's quite a bit better today,....ready to be done with this!!!

I hope everyone is feeling better today. The weather outside is great and the leaves are really changing. I may try and get out tonight before it gets dark.

Back in 2003, I found someone who took my knee pain seriously. Gave me a cortisone shot and I was HEALED. For at least a couple of years. In 2005, the pain was back AGAIN. This time, I ended up seeing a surgeon... and, when he went to remove the problem, he found lots of damage...

But to make a long story short, I, too, went through the effort of losing weight (through watching what I eat and walking!) to help keep my knees healthy. TRUST ME. Totally worth it. In 2005, the surgeon found damage enough to go "yeah, you're going to need a high tibeal osteotomy or a knee replacement." I was 28 at the time - darned good motivation! I managed to buy almost four more years on my arthritic knee, just by getting as healthy (not necessarily slim ) as I could.

So, go LetTheWookieIn! I'll be your personal cheerleader if you need one! :) And walking is SUCH a great way to get fit, regardless of what the runners say. I'm totally looking forward to being able to walk for exercise again... in a few more months. (And given I live in Michigan AND it's nearly winter, I'm not missing a lot by not being able to walk now!)

And finally, a late in the day happy birthday to danceintherain!

Thanks!! My DH is being about as supportive as a 20 yr old bra with no elastic left. Today he told me that he didn't want me walking b/c he loves my big fat rear (insert 3 letter word for donkey).

Since today started out rough my DH took me out for the day. We have a little garden like area in front of the house with bushes. Well I had a garden gnome that I named Greg in it and I noticed this morning that it was gone. Someone took Greg!! I was really upset. I had got him at Cracker Barrel. David took me to IHOP for their special holiday pancakes. We both got pumpkin pancakes and the bacon was just perfect. If they had cooked it just a minute longer it would have been burned. Then we went and saw the movie "The Fourth Kind". I'm not sure if it's really based on a true story, but it was pretty good. While waiting for the movie we went into Best Buy, and they had 3 different D&B laptop bags. They were white, black, and pink. I wanted one, but my DH said "no" b/c they didn't offer any protection for the laptop.

Meghan, as I was reading the thread John came up. He saw your avatar and said, "wow mom, she has a beautiful smile". Just thought I would share that.

Oh Kim!! I hate that someone took your little Greg!! That's mean!!! I am proud of you for wanting to get out and exercise!! You should..if for nothing other than your heart...it's wonderful for your bp...keeps it lower and stronger!! We will be right here cheering you on!!!!:cheer2:

Uh...please tell me your husband got smacked?! ;)
And sorry to hear about Greg! :headache:
Have a great Sunday all. Its supposed to be in the HIGH 70s today!!! We'll be at soccer this afternoon and then a birthday party. Another busy, busy day but it will be gorgeous!!

Thank you!! Yeah my blood pressure is another reason I'm doing this. I take such a low dose that my former doctor always told me that if I would just loose some weight I could get off of them. Plus I have diabetes in my family. My poor kids got the short end of the stick when it comes to family medical history. We have diabetes in my family and my DH's. On my side my dad, dad's mom, and dad's brother that I know of have it. On DH's side his dad, mom, mom's mom, and a cousin that had juvenile diabetes that I know of.

I guess you could say I smacked him. A couple of years ago we took the DS's to Medieval Times and bought them wooden swords and shields. I chased him through the house hitting him on the rear everytime I caught up with him.

You have a great Sunday as well. We are heading over to my sister's house for another birthday lunch. It is to celebrate my dad's birthday (November 3) and Joey birthday (November 13). She is making chicken tortilla soup. My mom is made sopapilla cheesecake b/c my dad can eat it. Then my sister ordered a cake that has Darth Vader on it and "Happy Birthday" to both of them.

On Friday the 13th my little baby that started out at 4 pounds is going to be 12. I can't believe he is going to be that old. We are taking him to see 2012 with DH's parents on his b-day.

OK, I need to vent here. For those of you who still have a small degree of control over your kids - give thanks!

Now, my d is a really good kid, don't get me wrong. She's 6 hours away at college. She texts her dad (who in this case also happens to be my H) that she's not feeling well, has a slight fever, etc. So I text her (easier to get her attention by text, and I don't have to worry about waking her!) on Sunday "How are you?" She texts back, "Fine. How are you?" So we chat by text for a while. All's well, right?

I e-mail her today, "How are you feeling? Did you have a fever?" and such questions. She calls me back. "Well, I had to go to the ER Saturday night because it was 102. No, it's not swine flu; it's stress. They gave me fluids and sent me home. I drove myself and now my friends are mad at me because I didn't wake them up to take me." And I'm sitting here thinking, "I'm mad at you too!! This is what you mean when you say Fine???"

It's a good thing she's 6 hours away or she might not have made it until Thanksgiving!!

Kim- Sorry to hear about your gnome friend going missing. Perhaps he hooked up with Jenjolt's Nobby and they are off traveling the world together. .

Happy almost birthday to your baby. Amazing how fast they grow- from 4lbs. to 12 in no time flat:sad2:.

Hope everyone is well. We worked a little more on our garage project. DH put in a subfloor. Next step is electric & plumbing, then drywall! I'm so excited that all of this is coming together! I can't wait to have everything for my daycare on one floor. Our house is a split level and going upstairs to the kitchen so many times a day is killing me, especially with little ones that don't walk yet. TIRED! Plus I can't wait to have the upstairs just for our family again. My kids are past needing a gate on the steps and child locks on everything. Plus the licensing rules around here for the bathroom are crazy- can't even keep deodorant in the bathroom medicine cabinet. :headache:

 Sorry, lady! But that's what daughters do. I had another mother tell me that she swears that the mother/daughter adult relationship is all about how to make each other crazy.

I do the same thing to my mom. A couple weeks ago, I told her I was fine. Fine meant "I've got an unusual chemical burn near my brace on the backside of my leg that makes it uncomfortable for me to be seated." Once it was on the mend, I managed to mention it to her. It's my way of not worrying her AND not being driven crazy when she worries. :rolleyes1 (Why is that "rolleyes"? It's innocent whistle, darnit!)

Four weeks down. Two weeks from today, I hope to get the "all clear" from my surgeon to start weight bearing on my crutches! I think my husband will just be thrilled when I can make my own lunches. The poor guy.

My mother and I drive each other crazy equally - I think she bugs me more now that I'm getting *ahem* "older"!

My DH and I were just talking - I have just over THREE WEEKS until we leave!! YIKES!!I absolutely do not feel organized!! I'm pretty good about keeping lists, but for some reason I don't have the big "get done before vacation" list going yet!! Just lots of other lists!
I better get cracking!! The way the weeks fly by, I might have to start packing soon!
We are setting up Christmas decorations/tree earlier than normal this year. I have to get that up before we leave on 12/3. Too bad they keep expecting me to go to work so much!! I shouldn't complain - I only work 4 days a week.

Sarah - I hope you're healing process continues to go quickly!! I'm sure you'll appreciate being able to bear weight etc.

Sheree, I thought of you this morning. My DH's uncle posted on Facebook about how nice the weather was and that most of the neighborhood put up their Christmas lights. I had to laugh. (They live near Beloit, WI) Midwest practicality at it's finest!!

We usually put up our Christmas stuff at Thanksgiving. I love love love the Christmas season. I loved it when I worked retail. That said, I don't think we're going to do it this year. DH does a lot of it to humor me and this year I just won't be able to help. Being on crutches until (at least) Christmas makes helping pull stuff out of the basement a lot more difficult. Too bad. :(

I did ask that we "splurge" and get a real wreath for our front door and probably wreaths for the lights on the garage. At least we'll look festive outside and we'll be out of town for the actual holiday!

I hope you have a great time on your trip!!!

Sheree!!! Girl...you better get busy! Are you finished Christmas shopping? I can't remember...you need to get on 'our' PTR and update me!!! Ha!!! I am hoping to get all the Christmas decorating done this weekend...at the LATEST!!! Maybe start tonight....boy-it sure was DARK here last night. And early too!!! I guess it was the rain, but it just seemed exceptionally dark. Christmas lights would have looked wonderful!!!

Sarah~ I think that's a good idea...you don't need to overdo just to decorate. I actually asked Mike if we could just get a small tree---like little bitty!----and just put up wreaths since we are gonna be gone for 8 nights...oh no!!!! Of course NOT!!!! He is the Christmas Fanatic....so, I gotta get geared up for that. It is just soooo much to get out!......and drag down stairs.....and boxes to put back up....(am I making is sound like a big deal yet?;) Ha!!)

Hello Snowbirds! :cool1::cool1::banana::banana:

We're home from our cruise...had a GREAT time. :thumbsup2 We had a half day in Barcelona before we left, then on the cruise had a day at sea and then visited Malta, Pompeii (from Naples), Rome, Florence and (briefly) Pisa, and Monaco (from Cannes, France). At the end I asked what everyone's favorite port was, and DS9 said, "The day at sea!" DH and DS11 really enjoyed Pompeii, which was fascinating. I enjoyed having someone else do the cooking and cleaning! :woohoo: Of course we all ate a ton, but did so much walking I think it all evened out. (I hope so, anyway! :rolleyes1 I'm not going near a scale!) We all enjoyed it well enough that we put down a deposit (discount!) for a future cruise :cheer2: so we'll definitely be taking another one sometime in the next four years. We're thinking maybe Greek Isles two years from now. I'd love to do a Disney cruise someday, but we enjoyed Norwegian. Now I'm doing lots of this :laundy:.

I love all the pictures of the little Snowbirdies dressed up for Halloween!
And YEA :cheer2: for everyone who is getting close to their next Disney trip!

Plutofan!!! Glad you had such a wonderful trip!!!! My ds10 loved learning about Pompeii...I am sure that was something to see!!! We need some pics!!!!! What was the weather like over there? I am picturing it being perfect! I would like to do a Norwegian cruise too! I have heard they are wonderful!!!!

Hi everyone! All this talk about Christmas is getting me so excited!!! We always decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving. However, we would have put up our outside lights this weekend if we actually had outside lights. :rotfl: Our weather this weekend was absolutely beautiful and I wasted it by laying around inside. Anyways....we don't put up outside lights because our house doesn't have any eaves to hang lights on. Last year, I put up a string of lights around the inside of our window. That will have to wait though.

I haven't even started Christmas shopping yet. Well, I take that back. I bought Madison a sweater the other day at work! I do about 80-90% of my Christmas shopping on Black Friday. It has to be one of my favorite days of the year!!! I love getting up super early, hitting all the stores on my list and then getting back home by 9am. I usually go back to bed for a few hours and then wake up in time for a turkey sandwich for lunch. Just thinking about it gets me all excited!! :yay:

OK, another vent (sorry, guys!). We just found out that our town has voted to allow heavy trucks, up to 16 wheels, travel to a construction site and pass right in front of our house, on a narrow, winding road! We knew it was a possibility, but now that it's official . . . They're projecting that for about 6 months, it will average 1 truck per minute!

We're trying to figure out what to do. Our house needs a lot of work that we've put off to pay tuition, so we have to decide if we want to fix it and put it up for sale and take what we get in a lousy market, or live for 3 or more years in a construction zone!

I'm so upset right now, I can barely think. So I came here.

ME TOO!!! I can't wait. I usually HATE to shop, but that's the one day I love! I used to go with my sis-in-law, then meet up with my MIL and her sis later for lunch and more shopping...now I pretty much enjoy going on my own. No one to slow me down, and I have a VERY short attn span. They like to look and look...and look. I've got my list, I'm there to get what I can, then get out and move on! The last few years, DH has had to work, so I usually get up about 4, do my Wal mart and/or Kmart shopping because its local, then get home by 8 for him to go to work. I just love the excitement of shopping that day. I'm not a 'grab soemthing out of someone's cart' type of shopper. I get a mocha latte on the way, get what I can, then I usually make a round or two of the store because more often than not, people have grabbed more than what they need of some toy, then lay it down where it doesn't belong. I've found more stuff on my list that way! :woohoo:

Have you spoken to the town? Do you have a lawyer? That sort of truck has GOT to cause damage to your foundation/walls/etc. You probably didn't want to hear that, did you? But I think the town has some culpability.

I'd be absolutely beside myself, too. Right there with you. Heck, we were mad enough when our street became a cut through to a strip mall... with cars doing ~45 in a 25 zone! (We were able to convince the county to help pay for speed humps, which are being installed)

We've GOT to try and meet up when I'm in town. I'll buy you a drink for dealing with all this right now!

Hi everyone! All this talk about Christmas is getting me so excited!!! We always decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Another person who works in retail that loves the holiday season!!

I'm super-jealous because I just won't be able to wander through the malls this season!

We put up all our Christmas stuff today!!!! It's all done!! I even got so warm doing it, that I was in only a t-shirt....IT'S NOVEMBER and I wore only a t-shirt outside!!:woohoo: Oh it's the little things in life!

Plutofan~ Welcome back!! Glad to hear you had a great time!
