~Snowbird Chat 2~

this move is in the same area...to one of our other subdivisions...maybe the next move will be to a cooler climate!!!!

It's cooler up here!! ;)

I'm actually thinking of becoming a TA (not necessarily Disney), as a part time career, and perhaps to take me through retirement. (Yes, I'm old enough to begin thinking about retirement!) I'm trying to figure out where to start, though. If you have any hints . . . :goodvibes

I pretty much did what Meghan did, researched Authorized Disney Vacation agencies online. I had just booked my August WDW trip with an agency because they had a much better deal than what WDW was offering. A few weeks later I applied with them (and found out that it was the same agency that a DIS friend of mine works for - and she gave me a great reference) and a few weeks later I was hired and starting my training!

The agency I work for is an EarMarked Agency and has about 30 agents. The agency specializes in Disney of course, but each agent can branch out and get authorized in other destinations as well and sell as much as they want. I just finished up my Universal training and can now offer that to my clients, as well as Vacaton Express (all-inclusive vacations all over the globe) trips, Wyndam Bonnet Creek resort, and many other hotel chains.

What I love most about my agency is the WDW Agency Exclusive specials we offer!! Super great deals for the clients! :thumbsup2

Good luck if you decide to go in this direction. :goodvibes It's tough at first. You sure can't depend on it for a steady income. I have booked 8 trips in my first 4 months, but none of them have traveled yet. Therefore, no pay yet! :upsidedow

Oh yeah... I would love to move up where all my Snowbirds are!! Mike's cousins are all in Penn and New Jersey! He said he thinks I would get real sick of the snow/slush/muddy mess being tracked in! :rotfl: Is he crazy? Anything is better than this sticky humidity I live in!!
Have you seen the heat wave that was supposed to be from CA to New Mex over the weekend and into this week?!!! up to the 130s in Death Valley!!! GEEEEEEEZZZZ!! I would hate to be there!

I did a lot of research online and searched for Authorized Disney Vacation Planners. There are a ton of agencies out there with lots of different requirements. My agency is small (30 agents) but some agencies have hundreds. I love my agency because we really are a team.
Thank you both so much! I guess I have a lot of research to do!

He's right - it does get old! :faint:

I saw that on the news about the heat wave out west. Crazy!

You're welcome. Good luck! :goodvibes

So I have some news...we just found out a few days ago...

Nothing on Facebook please...I prefer to announce things to family and close friends first, then to people I've never met (internet friends) before adding in everyone else. :rotfl2:

Anyways...
It's a little surprising. I started having an inkling about it, while I was in Mexico with my Mom, but didn't take a test until Sunday.
The timing is pretty good, because my due date is the first week of March, which means my Mom will definitely be able to come for a week over her spring break, and my brother just proposed to his girlfriend, and they're planning their wedding for the first week of April. Hopefully this baby doesn't come too late!

The other exciting part of it is that Logan said that we could plan another trip to Disney once I have another baby and I can pick wherever I want to stay. I'm sure we'll still have some budgetary constraints, but I'm definitely planning on Deluxe this time. Now to decide where and when...

Are you building a new house? Cool! Sometimes I'd like to do that again, now that I know more about what I want. But I don't want to move either. We have some pretty terrific neighbors that we don't want to leave (especially Paige - her BFF is on our block). Plus it's a lot of "stuff". We built our house 16 years ago, on a pretty tight budget, so we left some things out. I have a better sense of how I'd like things now. But nothing's a big deal, I still like our house.

Hope your DD has fun at camp! Sometimes I would like to send my kids off to camp! HA!

Shelly - I visited your PTR - came in at #2. So close!

I'd love to build another house, but I just don't think I have the patience for it at this point in my life!! :rotfl: We built our last two before this one (had to move from one because of DH's job and had to move from the other one because of a poor location - on a curve at the entrance to the neighborhood and had accidents in our yard all the time) and I loved being able to have exactly what we wanted. I think that's why I dislike the house we ae in now so much. It's a nice house, it would just be nicer if I had designed it myself! But, we would like to move south when the kids are out of school (7 years to go!), so we probably just ought to stay in this house until then.

Glad to see you both on my PTR! :yay:

We just got back from a week in Charlotte yesterday. Got to see lots of family we hadn't seen in awhile and do some fun stuff. Even went ziplining!! :cool1:

well...since we are in the business-:rotfl:- we move more than most people..but we have been here 6 years....that's the longest we have been anywhere yet...

Today is my final day in Orlando! The weather has been pretty good. It's rained a bit each day, but other wise has been in the 90's and sunny.

We went to Epcot on Saturday, it was virtually empty. By 10:30ish, the wait for Test Track was about 15 minutes. We ate at The Rose and Crown Pub for lunch, and The Coral Reef for dinner. I took my mum on Soarin' for the first time and she's become a life long fan.

While we were at the Coral Reef, one of the divers had to be rescued from the tank. It appears he stopped breathing, as there were no bubbles coming from him and he sank towards the bottom. Two divers came, each taking him by an arm and swam in one direction while the rest of his group swam in the other. It was a bit freaky.

Otherwise, it's been a great trip. I couldn't have asked for a better time.

Wendy!! Where have you been?!!!!

Crazy busy with work, house remodeling, moving children, yikes... I get on and read but usually just a quick peek....

Had a quick 5 day trip to Disney at the end of April then two weeks in Scotland in May with Tim, Maggie and Daniel..... it was amazing. Tons of photos on my daughters facebook account... Maggie Dunnigan....

Tim and I are heading back to Disney in September with my sister and her husband - Setp 4-9 then Dan and I are planning our annual January trip:surfweb:... he asked to bring a friend along... me with two young college boys.... can't wait to see that food bill!!!:scared1::scared1:

Hope everyone is having a great summer!
