~Snowbird Chat 2~

Thanks y'all...she has stopped for a while, but her little stomach is so sore...poor little girlie:sick:...

On a side note...we leave in 13 weeks!!! I know it sounds a long way off, but it's all we can look forward to in this Savage HEAT!!! Last night, after 6:30 it was still 100 degrees!!! Can y'all believe that?!!??! CRAAAAAAZY! So,...we still do not have airfare,...am hoping that next week or so we will see a drop--the last few years the 12 week or so mark was our sweet spot...hope it happens again this year. And we are still hoping for a good room discount-FD doesn't really pan out for us, so we need the break on the room...maybe the end of August will prove a good time. Better be since our paymt is due the end of Sept! :rotfl:

Hey Snowbirds! :goodvibes

Shawna -- congrats to your DS on his first job! You must be so proud!! I hope your DD feels better soon. Poor little thing. I'm sure a room discount for the fall will be out soon. :wizard:

Meghan -- So glad to hear that the baby is doing well and sleeping! :cloud9:

Kathy -- welcome back! I'm happy that you had such a great vacation!:cool1:

Hello to everyone else! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your last bit of summer.

Two weeks until Disney for us!!!:banana:

Can I get some :wizard: and some pixiedust: please? My d just had an interview for a (permanent, full time) job that she really wants. She said it went well, and is optimistic that she'll get a second. But I figure some good thoughts & prayers can't hurt!

Thanks, Snowbirdies!

Hey all, just checking in!
Trying to catch up on the thread, and all the PTR/TR's. SO much exciting (and stressful :sad1:) stuff going on for everybody. New babies, jobs, trips, oh my! ;)
Not much new here. We went to Gulf Shores for a long weekend trip in June and it was AWESOME! Our first vacation to just relax and be lazy. The 12 hr drive wasn't great, but the trip was amazing. I love the beach!!

We've decided to skip Disney next year. :scared1: Well, at least in January. There's so much to do to our house that we've been putting off. (So I MAY have already went and checked out stainless appliances...:rolleyes1). One of my friends owns the local Maytag store, so she's finding me some Scratch and dent models that aren't too scratched or dented, but deeply discounted. So we're thinking maybe next Disney Nov 2012, because my MIL wants to go and she travels everywhere, all the time. That will be her Europe year, so she'll be gone for a month in Sept/Oct, then Dec she'll go to Cali to visit her brother. I hope at 70 I have her energy (and expendible income)!

Kids are going back to school next week. Drew will be in 3rd, Keaton is starting KINDERGARTEN!!! YIKES!! I picked him up from daycare yesterday and since they only go Tues/Thur, this is it. No more Daycare. Yep, I cried like a baby! We've gone there since Drew was born, so almost 9 years. Happy about no more daycare payments though!

Hope you all are well!! TGIF!!!!!

Becca--Your Philippines trip sounds wonderful; I hope the plans fall into place soon. I forget if I've mentioned this before, but it might be worth considering for Hawaii...when we moved back to the States from Korea, we were able to arrange a week-long layover on Oahu at no additional airfare cost. We spent part of the week at the Hale Koa and the other part at Bellows AFS. Both lovely! :cloud9: Of course it depends how quickly Logan has to be at his next assignment, but if you can fit it in, I highly recommend it! :)

Hope you all have a happy Disney day! :goodvibes[/QUOTE

I would love a bit of time in Hawaii, and he does have over a month between his DEROS here and when the next CPTs Career Course would start. Since he won't be able to take leave during CPTs Career Course, I was already planning on taking something like 20 days in November and December that year, assuming he gets slated for the first class after we get back.

Cole is doing great! He is 10 weeks old now and I can't believe it. At his 2 week check-up last week, he was 12 lbs and 24 inches long! He sleeps at least 6 hours each and every night which means more sleep for me!

Well, Tony is about 95% sure we can go to Disney next summer!!! :woohoo::yay: He is starting a new job on August 22nd (please don't say anything on Facebook) and I'm so excited for him. It's a great opportunity for him and our family. He has even said that we might be able to stay at a Mod!!! Madison will probably be devastated because she loves Pop so much, but being a Vacation Specialist, I need to stay at more hotels!!!

I think she would be perfectly fine staying at a Moderate. She might resist at first, but they're all so much fun!

Thanks y'all...she has stopped for a while, but her little stomach is so sore...poor little girlie:sick:...

I hope she feels 100% soon!

I hope she gets a second interview and subsequently the job!

Oh, I'm sure she'll be just fine at any resort. Once she sees the water slides at the Mods, she'll be on :cloud9:!!! She adores water slides. I'd love the little bit of extra space and the fridge that comes with staying at a Mod. My mom keeps asking me to price out POR of POFQ, but I think I'd like to stay at CBR. I just can't decide!!!

Just a side note about my little guy. He slept until 7am both last night and the night before!!! He went to bed around 10pm both nights. This is one happy mommy!!! :goodvibes

Hello peeps!!! Well, she obviously had a 24 hour bug..she was fine by Sat,...but her stomach was sooo sore and her throat was hurting too,...but she ate more on Sat than i would have wanted to eat following all that!:rotfl:
We did get rain yesterday!!!:worship: Praise the Lord!! We are reaaaaaally dry. I think our little triangle of counties in this area are the last to restrict watering....everyone else in a greater proximity are already being fined for using water on certain days of the week...
Well, lots of schools started back today,...next Monday everyone else in the area has their first day....but for us, today is the first day of week 7!!!!! Yippee!!! And my ds starts his job tomorrow! He's pumped!
totally changing subjects....what do y'all use for skincare? I think I asked this a while back and forgot! I went to Ulta last week looking for Boscia, I am really trying to use things that are Preservative free and good for oilier skin that's also sensitive. What a mix, right? Anyway, a sales rep kinda lady was in there and she was really pushing the Exuviance line...I was kinda on the fence about a couple of lines that they carry there, so I went ahead and got the sample kit. WOW...Not for me girls!! After about three days my face felt almost burned..it was sooo dry and flaky, and RED...:scared1: so, I had planned to go in Friday and find something better...but dd was sick, so I went back Sat...well, after much researching and talking with some friends, I got the sample kit of Dermalogica. I love this stuff so far! It's really calmed it down from that last product and I can feel a difference...and the moisturizer is great. I have never been a moist. user because I am oily...but apparently I was so stripped out that I am over-producing to rebalance and it's not evening out....so anyway,...just curious what y'all use & love and why....my son has been using the Exuviance and it seems to be working better for him, but when he runs out of his pack I am gonna get the Dermalogica for him too...but he didn't seem to have the reaction that I did.
well...hope you all had a great weekend and are having a good Monday!

Well, we haven't done anything about the car situation, yet. I did secure a 3 year car loan at a very low interest rate, so that's covered. Now, to test drive a car or two! Just got to find the time for that; we're thinking of starting Wednesday or Thursday this week. I think I know what I want, but I've never driven one, so it's hard to say for sure!

My boss's surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. Once again, she'll know more after that. Man, what a lot of waiting there is for her! Anyhow, my coworker and I ordered flowers for her today. They ended up being super-cheap through ProFlowers so, after hitting up other coworkers, we have some extra money. We figure we'll find something next week to buy and have delivered to her house. I know when I have been out for an extended period of time, no one remembers you after the first week! :rotfl:

But, hey! There's a chance I might get to meet snykymom in October! Woohoo!

Congrats on getting some shut eye!!!! And you know my vote is for CBR. :thumbsup2

I thought of you while watching the weather channel this weekend! Glad you got some rain!

Have fun test driving! I'm keeping your boss in my prayers!

I didn't have any daycare kids today so I spent a fantastic and much needed quality time day with just my kiddos. :lovestruc

Then my evening went downhill after that. Jason came home and found out that his work has been making a mistake in his paycheck since he started at this job more than 5 months ago so they are going to take more out each pay period rather than one big chunk out at once so his paychecks will be $250 less for the next couple months.
I had an interview scheduled for tonight and they never showed. Not even a phone call. It really irritates me when people can't be courteous. :headache:
Plus we've gotten tons of rain here these past few days. So much so that a tree limb took out some shingles and part of our gutters. I get to call our homeowners tomorrow.

I tell ya- Disney this December is beginning to look more like a pipe dream than reality. :sad2:

I should just be thankful we have a roof over our heads but... who knows!

Sarah...have fun with the test driving!! I think you will know for sure what you want after you drive a few.....

Kim...I am so sorry about your evening!! Wow!! $250 a week is a lot!!! I guess it's better so you can get it over with quicker, but geez,...how bout $100 a week for a litte longer!! I hope you get some calls this week! I know you really need it!!

So my d, her friend, and her friend's friends found an apartment. Yay! Lease signing tonight.

I get on line to book F&W events - get what I want without a long wait. Yay!

D has another interview this PM. Yay!

D calls. She was the one who put down the deposit to hold the apartment. Friend calls - "I'm not taking the apartment." WHAT!!! D is now out a lot of money; they can't afford it without the friend. Trying to get deposit back; D's friend wants to sublet, but D doesn't want to live with all strangers. And how can you sublet something you haven't leased yet??? And now D has to go to her interview, worried that she's out all this money that she (meaning "we") really can't afford to throw away!

ARRGH!!! Why does nothing work out for this poor kid???

Thanks for letting me vent! Now off to research case law!

You're poor daughter.....what an emotional rollercoaster!

It certainly was - and here's the upshot (believe it or not!). The other girl changed her mind back (she was freaking out about the rent), they signed the lease, and they're back on track to move in together! I guess we just needed a bit of an adrenaline rush yesterday!! Making sure that our hearts worked.

I thought all this was behind us now that we no longer have a teenager! :rotfl:Now I understand why some species eat their young . . .

:rotfl:
Did the girls all write up an agreement that they all sign stating rent and rules? If not, I'm going to strongly recommend this, especially given how jumpy one of them is already. I know it's hard to do that among friends, but I'd be scared of that other girl changing her mind a month or so.

So just an update on my life. Yesterday was my birthday (thanks for all the happy wishes on facebook :goodvibes) and I got called into the office at work to get yelled at, again. I have no idea really why it's always me, so I made the decision last night that on Friday I will be putting in my 2 week notice. (no comments on facebook yet please...) I have no job yet lined up, and quite frankly, I don't care :rolleyes1. I'm lucky enough to still be at home right now, so that I don't have to worry about rent/electric/water all that good stuff.

I just have to worry about getting my time off for Disney in Dec!;)

Prayers and good wishes are always welcome!!

Have a great day everyone!

:bday: Hope you enjoyed it when not at work. party:
Sorry I missed it...I'm the only person on the planet not on facebook yet. :upsidedow

Good for you on your work decision. :thumbsup2 It does sound like you are severely underappreciated there. We're sending pixiedust: and prayers that you find something better quickly! Keep us posted!

First....:bday: a day late! (Kathy_ you're not the only one on facebook...well, I am, just not with everyone here....:)) I'm sorry you're day at work was horrible. Sounds like you're making the right decision to leave though. That just means the right job is out there for you.

Second, great idea about the agreement! This would protect both of the girls.

first of all,...HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! And secondly, yes, you def need a new job!! You have been treated badly for a while now...I think you will find something with less pressure, for sure!!

Keaton starts Kindergarten tomorrow!:scared1: I didn't think I'd freak out, but I'm freaking out a bit! Thankfully it's only a 1/2 day tomorrow, full day Friday, then they'll start full weeks next week. Yep, mommas got the first day of school jitters!:sad1:

He gets paid biweekly so it does end up being $100 a week thankfully. It's a little more manageable but still a cut that we don't need at the moment!

Awwww Hope Keaton has a fantastic first day! Hope it goes well for you too
Andrew goes back next Wednesday. I have one more year with Emily before she heads to K next year. I'll be a mess I'm sure.

No leads on daycare kiddos yet. I've had a couple calls for 10yr olds needing before and after school care but I cater more towards the little ones. I'm not stressing over it. The right families will come along at some point.

I am however considering taking the 2 college courses I need to reinstate my teaching certification just in case. Emily starts K next year and although I'd really like to continue to work from home it can't hurt to have myself prepped in case I need to get back out there in a year or so. Working from home has it's perks. I wear comfy clothes, have down time for chatting on the computer or drinking a cup of tea (like today when I got up at 7 for a family that has yet to show :rolleyes1), I don't have to worry about what to do when my kids are sick but it certainly isn't as steady of an income or have the benefits like I had when I was in the public schools. I enjoy what I do much more now than when I was in the public schools though.
