~Snowbird Chat 2~

Kim - I'm sorry about your DH. Depression is hard on everyone around it. I'm sure your stay at the Poly will take the edge off.

Kim - I'm sure your trip will be extra magical, and I bet your kids will love the All-Stars too!

Snykymom - New appliances are always fun.

Mndisneygirl - Good luck at your first show! Maybe I'll have to order something and have you send it to my Mom...I'm pretty excited about Christmas shopping this year, because I can do everything online and have it shipped directly to the recipients. Last year, going to actual stores was hard with the baby, so this year I have a good excuse not to...:rolleyes1

I think it just hit me today that summer is nearly over! Andrew starts school in 19 days!!!!

Anyone ready for my big news for the day????

We booked free dining for December! :scared1:

Yea!!! You booked your trip! We've stayed at Movies twice. It's not too bad. And my DS starts school TOMORROW?!?! Where did the summer go?

Hey Snowbird Friends! :goodvibes

Just wanted to pop in and let you all know that YES I am still alive!!! Life is really insane right now! As some of you know my DH is struggling with severe depression right now and it is causing huge upheaval in our lives! However scary the road ahead might be I have a strong faith in God and I know that no matter what God is ALWAYS with me!

I'm going to have a website and in a couple months I can take online orders and ship to you. So you can all do some Christmas shopping! ;)

Have a great weekend birdies!

Love PC!!! Good luck on your first show.

Well, our big news of the weekend - WE GOT OUR NEW REFRIGERATOR! We're doing a total kitchen reno, and second - I ORDERED THE CABINETS! We've been talking & planning for a couple of years now, and this time, it's really going to happen! :cheer:

Forgive my yelling, but it's just SO exciting! Going to Kidani and having a new kitchen!!

Love new appliances!! DH was just talking last night about re-doing our kitchen. :scared1:

Hey Snowbird friends!!!

Yes my ears were ringing:lmao:

I haven't been on the dis in a looooong time and we are going in October 15-22 this year so when I was on, it was on the October boards. We are staying at Bay Lake Towers and I am sooo excited to be able to walk to MK:banana:

We are taking the autotrain again this year since the kids loved it so much last year and because it is again free....we transfered airline miles to continental and got a family bedroom.

Otherwise just finishing up summer. My girls are starting 2nd grade and kindergarten and for the first time in almost 5 years, will have an empty house from 830-330 Monday to Friday. I get a little choked up about it when I think about my baby starting full day kindergarten

My baby brother is getting married in Mexico in March and we are busy planning for that trip too..I actually think we are going to skip disney in 2012:eek::eek: This will be the first year that we haven't gone since my husband and I have been together. We are thinking instead of taking the kids to Europe for 10 days in November 2012 for jersey week (our kids have a week off of school for teacher convention the same week as election week. We have enough airline miles to fly there. We are deciding between Italy and Spain/Portugal.I'll have to start lurking on these boards again since our disney trip is in 2 months.

Well hey Andrea!! Glad you have a Disney trip in the works! Mike and I have actually talked about skipping in 2012 and doing a European trip too!! I want to go to England sooooo bad!!! 2nd would be Ireland or Germany...but, we'll see! I def will be back to disney in Nov of2013...wanna see the Fantasyland completion! Wish we had something comparable to Autotrain...but, we dont so, it'll be continental for us!! Glad you are doing well!!:cutie:

Hi Shawna!! We have done England and really enjoyed it. I really wanted to see Ireland but friends told us that it is not that much fun for little ones. We have been to Italy but were only there for a few days and I would love to go back and spend more time.

We will absolutely be in disney when the fantasyland expansion is complete:yay:

Morning birdies!:goodvibes
Well, ds15 got a job yesterday! His first real job! We are very excited for him...we will have to drive him back and forth for a while as he only has his learners permit,...but that's okay....he has called soooo many places and no one is hiring teenagers here. But, this is a really cool place..it's a coffee /sandwich/ice cream shop. We are very happy for him-he's so excited. We had the interview then went to buy his work clothes!:rotfl:
so, yeah,...I am a happy/proud mamma!
And today is

3 MONTHS!!!:dance3::dance3::dance3:
After today I will no longer have a 3 in my ticker!! I still do not have airfare:sad1: it's just sooo ridiculously high!! Almost $400 each!!! So, we are just watching the prices and hope for some breathing room before we purchase...I know if we did it now it would drop the next day!!;) Hate when that happens...so we will just wait.

Sarah- for some reason yours didn't quote. :confused3 Just wanted to say I hope things calm down for you and your boss.

Hi all! I think things have calmed down!
-My boss's first surgery indicated that her cancer hasn't spread in to her lymph nodes. Great news!!

-My dad was discharged from the hospital last Friday. I don't think I even posted or checked in on the DISboards from the time he got in, until he got out, including even today. At first, it was his usual problem... then it turns out that he had an inflection that had spread to the bloodstream! As you can imagine, my mom was a total wreck. She took it out on me - she emailed me at 12:45 and then called me at 1:30 because i hadn't replied. Yeah. I was in a meeting, but I had seen the email. Anyway, he's home now, on antibiotics for a month, and on and on. Glad we went to Disney when we did!

-My husband has started his 3rd week of work and it's been horribly stressful for me. Because we only have one car and he needs the car now and doesn't work on campus, *I* had to adjust my schedule. I'm supposed to work 7:45am-3:45pm, so I can catch a bus home. Well, he doesn't like getting me to work for 7:45am. But I still have to leave on time. Then I have to walk a mile from the bus stop, which isn't too painful. But I'm not "allowed" to have the car at all during the week. I sat and cried on Monday night. I think we're car shopping this weekend. (Once the academic year starts again, I'll work until 5ish, but he thinks it's okay for me to be dropped off early, picked up late, so he can be at his job a full 9 hours - we're still working through this)

But! He has agreed to more travel! In fact, he's going to Seattle for a conference in November and he thinks I should tag along. I think I should tag along, too! I love Seattle!! And we're going to Chicago for his birthday! And Boston for my niece's first birthday!

Yeah for your son & for your three month dance! $400 for airfare is just nuts.

 You've had a rough few weeks. Glad to hear your boss and dad are doing okay. Hopefully the car shopping trip is successful this weekend. Sounds like it's something that is definately needed. And, I LOVE Seattle!! Hopefully you'll get to tag along on that trip!!

DS started 3rd grade yesterday. He says he likes his teacher, which is good. He had homework last night! :scared1: What is up with that? We had no problems with the bus, which is always a concern. They picked him up and dropped him off right on time. They're the first drop-off after school, which I am so thankful for. Less time on a hot bus in the afternoon heat!

Our heat wave finally broke. First day not in the 90s with high humidity since early July! :thumbsup2

Hope you are all having a good day!!

glad he had a good first day in 3rd grade! First day of school homework is nutty!!!!
Sarah..sorry you have had such a crazy time! Hopefully things will settle down soon and your dad will improve quickly!

I'm sorry about your Dad and your rough car situation. We're dealing with some car stuff right now too, and we'll definitely be car shopping when we get back to the States. At least we have some time to save up!
More travel is always nice!

Yay for 3rd graders! Being the first stop is great. I rode the bus, when we lived in Georgia. It was not fun at the beginning and the end of the year. Well....really it was never fun...but the heat doesn't help.

We're trying to work out the kinks in our trip to the Philippines. The men still both have to apply for leave, and I won't be comfortable paying for anything until it's fully approved. I'm worried that we'll lose the week we want to go though, then we'll have to go through the whole requesting leave process again. The travel insurance that we're buying will cover if leave is revoked for military reasons, but it won't cover it if it gets denied, when we apply for it, and they have to go to a counseling/briefing about traveling in the Philippines.
Right now, the owners of the house we're staying at have the week on hold for us, but they're only giving us a week to pay our deposit, or they're opening it up again. It will probably all be fine, but I'll be worried until everything is arranged properly.

Hi Birdies! Not much new to report here. Just passing the time and waiting for little ones to give up and nap. Then Em and I have a naptime playdate planned. First we're going to bake a cake with her Easy Bake oven. Then Andrew has me penciled in on his calendar for a game of Battleship. And perhaps I'll squeeze in a minute to eat lunch. Busy Busy!

Andrea- Glad you stopped by! :rolleyes1 I can't wait to hear about your October trip and how you like Bay Lake Towers!

Shawna- Your baby is a working man!!!! Congrats! Happy 3 months!!!! :woohoo: I'm still bummed we aren't going in November and we won't have a Snowbird meet. There's always next trip! ;) Hopefully airfare comes down for you soon.

Sarah- So happy your boss got some good news! And that's fantastic news that your Dad is okay! Hope you get the car situation figured out soon.

Lil'Mermaid- Wow school started already?? :scared1: And homework on the first day. That's not right. :sad2: My DS is the last one picked up in the morning and the first one dropped off at home in the afternoon. I love it! Less time to pick up bad habits from the older kids.

Becca- Hope you get the details for your trip to the Philippines all figured out in time.

Andrea - what kind of room will you have at BLT? You might have said, but I'm too lazy to go back and check! We had a studio. You are going to LOVE how close you are to MK!! That was my favorite thing. We had a "lake view", but if we looked to the left, we could see MK!

Homework the first day of 3rd grade? That better not happen to my 3rd grader!!!

Shawna - Yay for DS's first job!!!! Tell him to save up for Disney spending money!! and less than 3 months! YAY:yay:

Sarah - hope things continue to improve for your boss and dad.

Kim - What fun you're having with the kids! That easy bake oven is so funny. The kids think it's just the coolest thing. cooking with a night light bulb.

Becca - I'll be anxious to hear about your trip to the Philipines. DH works (well, I think he retired) with a guy who seems to love the Philipines. He keeps finding lovely women to marry there. :rolleyes1

I FINALLY updated my TR today!!! Not sure how I found a free hour, but I'm enjoying it!! Now to go figure out dinner!

I'm really excited about our trip, and so is the other girl going with us. The men, on the other hand, are a bit difficult to light a fire under. Part of the issue is my fault, because I didn't send the request in until Monday, and it didn't occur to me that the other guy is in the field for 3 weeks. He can still apply for leave, but it's a bit more difficult to remind him all the time. I just reminded Logan that he needs to apply today, so we'll see how it goes.

I don't think it will be a huge issue if I have to inform the owners that we can't make our deposit, until after the leave is granted, but I don't want to change the week we're going, and there's always a possibility that someone else could snatch it up. I'm also a bit worried about the airfare selling out or going up if we don't book it soon.

It should be a very nice relaxing trip. Neither Logan nor Gideon have been to the beach before, so it will be a new experience for them. I went all the time when I was growing up, but I haven't been in several years.

Since Logan is very much a "one trip at a time" type of guy, after we get back from the Philippines I can start talking to him about going to Tokyo! It's possible that we might go somewhere else before then, but it will be the next major trip, and we'll need to start narrowing down our dates!

Battleship is one of DS's favorite games! I love that he has you penciled in on his calendar! :rotfl2:

Yeah - homework on the first day...it was a math worksheet, but still. :sad2: We had meet the teacher night last night and she did tell us we would have some kind of homework every night, but that it wouldn't be "heavy" homework...just stuff to reinforce what they did in class that day. I can handle that!!

And I totally agree with you on the less time to pick up bad habits from the older kids! That's how I feel about daycare, too! Although, he's been moved ot a different building with the start of the school year due to bussing changes and he's one of the older kids (I think there are two others that are a year older than he is, and one is our neighbor), so it's much better. Plus, he's only there about 90 minutes each day!

Morning girls....well, I had a pretty productive week at the office. Then I had plans to sleep late today then bust out with the rest of the house cleaning, make sure all the school work for our week is done, and grocery shop/laundry somewhere in there. But, alas...my dd woke me up at 7 with the dreaded phrase:"I gotta throw up"....wow...we have been back and forth to the bathroom for 2 hours! Poor little thing! Of course, I have been dry-heaving and my stomach is hurting too!!! Ok...so all the plans for the day are out the window...bathroom cleaning is now TOP PRIORITY!!!!!!!!!!!! Then naps for the rest of the day!:thumbsup2

Oh goodness Shawna...hope everyone feels better soon!!

Well, I made it. Survived (barely) last weekend with the extended family. Only had a few choice words with a couple people, who I'm pretty sure didn't even understand what I was saying to them.

Then Wednesday it was off to Minneapolis for the Twins/Red Sox game!! We had so much, that we are already planning a longer trip for next summer!! I do believe that I am in love with Target Field!!!!

Well now it's back to life. Working all weekend...

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Hello Birdies! :yay: We're back from our trip! It was very relaxing...just what we needed. :cloud9: I can't remember the last vacation we had of just hanging out--usually we're power-sightseeing (in Europe) or visiting family (in the States)...our rare WDW trips are not the relaxing type either. ;) So it was nice.

I've missed so much here. I'll quickly try to comment, and sorry in advance for things I miss...

Kim NDG--hugs and continued prayers for Ken and all of your family. :grouphug:

Shawna--I hope G is feeling better soon! Congratulations to DS on the job! And :cheer2::cheer2: for double digits!

Dawn--wow, homework on the first day! :teacher: Can you believe the school year is starting already? My boys go back on Tuesday. They got out on the middle of June, so it was a short summer!

Sheree--congrats on the PC gig! That is some really nice stuff. I don't have the chopper everyone raves about...will you ship to an APO address?

Sarah--I hope your dad continues to improve. And good luck with the car shopping! We were a one-car family for a few years and it was a pain, and I didn't even have a job outside the house. Hope you find something good.

Meghan--How's your little man doing? I'm sure he's growing like a weed! Guess what, my DD has started Irish dance lessons. There's not an Irish dance school around here, but the teenage daughter of friends of ours is an accomplished Irish dancer and has started giving lessons. DD has a private class since she is only 3.5 and can't keep track of which is her right foot. Her teacher is amazingly patient.

Red--Wow, happy birthday to your Grandma! Enjoy your baseball...that's something I miss over here.

Shelly--your trip is coming up so soon! :woohoo: I was about 16 pages behind on your PTR but I managed to catch up. I hardly ever post there because I'm usually so far behind! Jack is soooo cute!

Kim Monny--Yea! The trip is back on! Keeping my fingers crossed that some more children in need of loving daycare find you soon.

snykymom--hooray for the new kitchen and bigger villa!

Andrea--Hi! Nice to see you again! I'd love to hear about the autotrain--we considered it for our Jan09 trip, since we lived just a few miles from Lorton, but decided to drive instead. The train sounded fun.

Becca--Your Philippines trip sounds wonderful; I hope the plans fall into place soon. I forget if I've mentioned this before, but it might be worth considering for Hawaii...when we moved back to the States from Korea, we were able to arrange a week-long layover on Oahu at no additional airfare cost. We spent part of the week at the Hale Koa and the other part at Bellows AFS. Both lovely! :cloud9: Of course it depends how quickly Logan has to be at his next assignment, but if you can fit it in, I highly recommend it! :)

Hope you all have a happy Disney day! :goodvibes

Cole is doing great! He is 10 weeks old now and I can't believe it. At his 2 week check-up last week, he was 12 lbs and 24 inches long! He sleeps at least 6 hours each and every night which means more sleep for me!

Well, Tony is about 95% sure we can go to Disney next summer!!! :woohoo::yay: He is starting a new job on August 22nd (please don't say anything on Facebook) and I'm so excited for him. It's a great opportunity for him and our family. He has even said that we might be able to stay at a Mod!!! Madison will probably be devastated because she loves Pop so much, but being a Vacation Specialist, I need to stay at more hotels!!!
