OMG. I have kicked and pushed and squeezed the nose of this man I love to no avail. Who else deals with this?

I highly recommend Breathe Right strips, if your husband has not tried those already. Until then, you have my deepest sympathy. ;)

That or do one of those sleep study tests for sleep apnea.. I was thinking about doing that for myself (if my insurance will over it...:sad2:) since I have been having issues recently where I will wake up from a sound sleep, nap, even napping in a chair with my throat closing up for some reason..

I do. It seems when he has allergies the snoring gets really bad. I usually kick him out and make him go to the guest bedroom. Probably not the best solution but it works for us. My sympathies OP.

And we've just gone from the sound of a kitchen chair being pushed across a tile floor to... The motor boat. Ooh he just heard himself and stopped. Hallelujah. I better go to sleep while it's quiet!!! LOL.

This will sound bizarre, but my DH snores like a freight train when his weight gets too high. :confused3

There was a while where I was reduced to shoving, pushing, pinching, kicking... you name it, I was going crazy. I'd spend half the night on the couch because he was running the power saw. Finally I had to tell him, "go to the doctor or we're going to be in separate rooms". The doctor told him to lose 15 to 25 pounds, and calmly discussed his other options: breathing strips, sleeping with an airflow mask, surgery.... :scared1:

Needless to say DH was VERY motivated, lost the weight, and the snoring problem has almost gone away. It's only bad when he has a cold. And when he's got a cold nobody's getting much sleep anyway.

My dad was also a terrible snorer - and his disappeared when he quit smoking. My mom had to threaten separate rooms too! (I shouldn't joke, it's a serious problem when you can't get a decent sleep).

I would urge a visit to the doctor for your DH.

That is not bizarre. It happened to me. Some medical issues caused me to gain a considerable amount of weight and suddenly I began snoring. I believe weight is a factor for some people.

This describes my husband. He smoked for 30 years. His snoring was so loud. I found that it was worse when he was on his back. When I made him turn on his side, it would be a bit less. I always knew he had sleep apnea, but he refuses to go to the doc for it. Last year he finally stopped smoking. it was amazing. Just like your dad, my husbands snoring is almost non-existent. The apnea is still there, but at least the snoring is mellow.

Me! Luckily mine usually quiets down after I have him roll over on his side. Always seems worse on his back. Told him recently I'm going to get him the Breathe Right strips, but haven't done it yet. My DH doesn't snore every night so it seems better at the moment. If you see me on the boards at 2AM, you'll know he's at it again!!!!:lmao:

Hubby got a CPAP machine after being diagnosed with sleep apnea; since then, NO problem with snoring at all :thumbsup2

Yup .... Mine is worse when he is heavier too. He has lost some weight in the last 6 months and it's better but still pretty bad. It's also a lot worse on his back so I just wake him up, tell him he is snoring really loud and he rolls over.

I wear ear plugs ... I can't do the wax ones, I do small foam ones that I get at Walmart. It drones out the snoring enough that I can sleep but I can still hear DS on the baby monitor. We have tried everything else ... breathe right, special pillows ... you name it short of the sleep study.

My solution=Wax Earplugs! :thumbsup2

::yes::

That's what I do and it has been a lifesaver. I use the ones where you don't stick them in your ear canal, you just cover your ears with them. They are pretty comfortable and block out almost everything. If it wasn't for them we'd probably be in separate rooms. He tried the breathe right strips but they irritated his skin, and they're pretty expensive.

My DH snored and gasped in his sleep, did a sleep study andw as diagnosedw ith sleep apnea. Had his tonsils and adnoids removed, the snoring stopped...but only for a year, as he then put on about 40lbs. The snoring is back. :sad2:

OMG! My FIL has one of those. When we all stayed in the same trailer one summer, it sounded like Darth Vader was sleeping in the room!!!

My DH was tested for everything and he even had his nose reset but nothing helped with his snoring. And it is LOUD! On top of that I'm a light sleeper.

We finally had to give up and sleep separately. Hotel stays are bad too so we try to find suites.

Me too! My DH snores, but it isn't just loud -- the noises he makes actually make me sick to my stomach! He's had several referrals for a sleep study, but never made the appointment, and now he's out of work so we couldn't afford it. We found a semi-solution -- we've always slept with a fan on, but we put the about 18 inches away from his face, blowing right at him. I have to check it at night to make sure it's blowing in his face, not over his head (it's one of those fans that you can adjust on a swivel). That helps a fair amount -- he even takes a small travel fan with him when he goes anywhere else. Try that and see if it helps! It's not perfect, but it's made a difference for us. His snoring has gotten better whenever he's lost weight also, but he's on the upside right now.

Are wax earplugs different than foamy earplugs? (I guess I just answered my question :rotfl:) Where do you find them!?! Earplugs only drown out the noise of the fan, and I can still hear the snoring, so I don't even bother.

My df is terribly loud. It does change when he loses weight or has alcohol. But his family is always amazed at wdw when they listen to him snore.

I'm completely deaf in one ear, and I've said it's what saved our relationship!
