Sneaking alcohol onto DCL - We need to learn how

I have called today to request specific items in my stateroom for a sail date in October. I asked about the new policy and how it was changed after the paid in full date and the cast member stated that we would be grandfathered in and allowed do bring on items according to the old policy. Has anyone else heard this?

No, but that would fantastic!

(However, I will say that I hope they don't have CM's disseminated incorrect information because that will even make it more confusing at the port! I really don't want to wait in line at security for 2 hours on October 10th while some people are arguing because think they were grandfathered when they really weren't.)

Yea I was shocked as well because I have been reading everyone's emails and responses from dcl. I'm going to call back tomorrow and ask again. It doesn't change the overall policy but at least they are being flexible for sail dates after 9/30 that were already Paid in full before the policy changed.
Yes let us know what they after talking to a second person. We literally paid in full that sat the 15th and read all about this new policy on monday. Was such a bummer to hear for our first Disney cruise! We sail Nov 13th!

Yea worse case they will just pick it up after the cruise I guess.

Maybe they'll have a posh Disney lock up. With a buffet.

Not sure this includes a buffet or not.... :rotfl:

I love the topic.

I thought about bringing booze on the ship and decided it's just not worth the hassle. I like the convenience of just going to the bar and getting a drink. So I end up with a $90 a day bar tab! So what!? I paid $4,500 for the cruise and airfare.....what's another few hundred?! I figure it's just part of the cost of cruising. Convenience comes with a price....that's the reason we will pay $5.00 for two bottles of at WDW when I can buy a case of 24 at Walmart for that price.

Just for arguing... People carry a water bottle into the park so they don't have to buy it there. They even make ones with a thermos so it stays cool all day. I guess if you don't plan on carrying a bag with you all day then there is a convenience fee for buying cool water when you need it. DCL is losing money by having people carry on board (your second point). The parks are also losing money by allowing people to bring in outside drinks. So I guess to maximize profit then I guess the parks should stop allowing outside drinks in as well. :confused3

There is no rule that you have to bring sealed water bottles onboard. My whole family carried water onboard last time, in thermoses (kids), plastic water bottles, and a camelback water bottle. NONE of them were ever handled directly by DCL staff. They were left in their respective carry on bag pockets. This is pretty much my point. They won't take a water bottle out of a child's backpack and shake it. This isn't the airport.

Honey, can you carry mummy's water bottle on the ship? Just promise you won't drink any of it.... :thumbsup2 Too funny!

I say go back to Carnival. Who's watching your kids while you're getting sloshed??!! I don't need anything bad enough to sneak it on. I hope they find your liquor and confiscate it. Just saying! Can't believe you'd put this out there. Geezzz.....

I think Carnival is trying to call you.

Do you assume anyone who eats is Super morbidly obese??

Why would you assume anyone who drinks is "getting sloshed"??

Who brought up obesity??? I must have mixed something.

LOL, sloshed is just a phrase I'm using that if you need it bad enough to sneak it on. Sounds like something you'd do when you're 21 at a rock concert. Not a Disney cruise. Still lost on the obesity thing. I never mentioned eating, obese or anything.....you been drinking???? Hmmm...

It's about being judgmental!

Aren't we all???? Everyone is about Something! Some just more touchy than others. You can't say you aren't or people wouldn't be "judgemental" about Disney's decision. Hypocrites.

These are merely "opinions" and nothing said specifies any one person. So if you're getting bent out of shape is there reasoning behind that? My judgement is based on past experiences I've seen so unless you're part of that, I don't see where my opinion should affect any certain person.

Consuming something (ie food, alcohol) does not equate to abusing that item.

I don't see anyone getting bent out of shape but you making accusations. Not everyone who drinks gets sloshed as you put it. Again, it has nothing to do with drunks and more to do with the bottom line.

First off, maximizing profit is more complicated than that. Some people are so cheap they would drink out of the bathroom sink rather than pay $2.50 for water. So if you made it hard for them to get water such as not allowing people to bring in drinks, then you just anger a bunch of people who might not come back to your park.

I'm all about convenience....I'd much rather buy ice cold water when I need/want it and throw away the bottle than carry lukewarm water around with me all day.

Agre about the convenience and some people will do anything to save a buck or two. Like the person who washes out ziplock bags so they can reuse them.

So the debate in the other massive thread is has this new policy (in part) made it so some people may not come back to the cruiseline? Maybe. Enough that they can't be replaced? Very doubtful. But in whole I agree with your original point, but just wanted to proposition an extreme what it. :)

Almost all of my cruises, Disney and non-Disney, have been out of Galveston, and since pictures aren't allowed inside the security area I don't have one to remember the specifics, but there is a sign when entering that makes it clear that no opened beverages are allowed through security. I always keep my refillable water bottle with me until I enter the terminal, and then dump it out in the bathrooms that are just inside the door. So none of the items you listed would have been allowed there and would have needed to be emptied. It's been a while since I sailed Disney from Galveston, and it's possible that the sign wasn't there when it was a Disney sailing, but it definitely was when sailing Royal Caribbean and Carnival that restricted carry-on alcohol to bottles of wine. It wouldn't surprise me if this becomes the norm at all the ports Disney sails from now that they also have a more restrictive alcohol policy in line with the other cruise lines.

Just out of curiosity, for everyone bashing the greedy companies for wanting bigger profits, don't you want those profits to earn you more on your investments, 401k's, etc.?

Something is not quite right with the idea that stocks need to constantly increase. It's unattainable without hurting the middle class in the long run. It's just the rich getting richer at someone's expense.

Of course stocks can't always increase. That's why we're told to diversify our portfolios. I'm not rich but I enjoy seeing my 401K go up with the market and I try not to panic when the market goes down. The point is that being profitable is not some unnecessary evil to be avoided. I'm not sure how the increase in stocks hurts the middle in the long run. With the exception of basic necessities, the higher price of goods and services that sometimes accompanies stock price increases is usually for things people can choose not to buy if the value is not there.

My mom can't bring herself to buy bottled water....but she knows my brother and my sisters and I all like bottled water so when we come to visit she will fill up empty water bottles and put them in the fridge to make it look like bottled water. It's pretty obvious it is not bottled water becuase the seal is broken! But it that weren't enough, one taste and you know this is tap water!

I don't know what it is that makes people cheap. I mean, you've already spent thousands of dollars on the cruise.......why not just splurge and order your drinks from the bar and pay a little extra for the convenience.

The idea that people are not going to sail on DCL now because of the policy change is ridiculous. I can hear it now,

"Daddy are we cruising with Disney again!?"

"No son, they won't let me bring enought alcohol on board....so we are cruising with Carinval."

"Carnival? Will they let you bring on a case of your PBR?"

"Uh....no......but they are cheap."

"Oh, cheap like you right?"

:-)

What is ridiculous to you is deal breaking to others, I am sure there are things you may be principled on that others think, get a life.
