Sneaking alcohol onto DCL - We need to learn how

What is ridiculous to you is deal breaking to others, I am sure there are things you may be principled on that others think, get a life.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to offend. What I should have said is it ridiculous to think that enough peeople would choose not to sail with DCL because of the new alcohol policy to make a bit of difference. This is not just my opinion it is obviously DCL's opionion too or they would not be making the change.

We've sailed on DCL, RCCL, CCL, HAL and NCL and I am pretty sure DCL is the only one that allowed you to bring your own alcohol onboard. So if that was the only reason you cruised DCL then you did yourself a disservice. DCL is way more expensive than the other cruiselines I mentioned. When I cruised on CCL I had a $75 to $100 a day bar tab.....that added up on a 5 day cruise. But the cruise was still thousands cheaper than a 5 day DCL cruise. We cruise on DCL because we love Disney. The alcohol policy was just a perk to maybe help some people offset the high price of a DCL cruise.

This is kind of funny but if you get caught smuggling alcohol onboard the 'penality' will be embarrassment and they would keep your booze for you to be picked up after the cruise.

I know this because the first time we cruised on CCL I had a bottle of rum in my suitecase. I didn't try to hide it because I didn't know it was against their policy. When my bag went thru the scanner they saw the bottle and they told me they would hold it for me. I asked if I could just take it back out to my car and they said sure. So I did.

When I was in college we smuggled booze into football games and concerts all the time. The easiest way in a double ziplock bag.

I guess that is what this whole thread reminds me of...college kids sneaking booze past security. Grow up people!

**OUCH! Ok, who threw that?!**

:-)

That's what I thought, also. But, like TheLanes, I can't find it now. Maybe it got "lost" in the transition to the newer board.

I think it may be in the Terms And Rules section located in the gray bar at the bottom of each page? There's a part about not discussing unlawful activities, etc.

Yeah, but I don't think going against a policy is "unlawful". I could be wrong, I'm not a lawyer.

Hi there Shmoo,

I believe you are right, its not unlawful, as long as no one try's to sneak a bottle off the ship on debarkation day and not declare it. Then it would be unlawful. and very expensive.

It has always been Dis policy to not permit threads that go against Disney parks. DCL, etc. rules and policy.

Apparently it has changed or no one noticed it...yet!

Oh, I'm in the "surprised this thread is still active" group, also. I was just pointing out that going against a cruise line policy isn't illegal (maybe). So wouldn't fall into the "discussing unlawful activities" description.

Still haven't seen it in any written policy, except for the part where they reserve the right to delete whatever they want (which is their right by all means!). Not sure why they would care about us discussing ways to bend rules that are not illegal. I know the holier than thou crowd cringe, but this isn't a religious site

DCL alcohol policy is not a law

No, but I did add "etc." The requirements listed in that section are broad enough to allow the Moderator discretion. Not to mention the Welcome to DIS thread says the Moderator can shut down any thread at any time. So, even though it's not expressly spelled out that you can't discuss ways to game the system, it's probably a safe bet that it's frowned upon.

I hear you. I'm not sure why they would care either way as long as the discussion remains civil. "Civil" in a forum these days is cringe-worthy however.

True. As long as you're willing to risk having it confiscated, it's your business. Discussing it doesn't force anyone else to do it!

To be fair to the boards, the only thing they usually care about is anything that goes against their business model, and basic civility.

Perhaps DCL should state clearly that anyone who tries to cheat them in this way will be denied boarding without compensation. Clear signage (just like the fruits and vegetables sign when getting off). Then, they only have to do that a few times and word will get around. They disembark guests without compensation for various other transgressions.

Fully agree.

I wonder if I should ask.

I do not want to spend an hour in my car driving from MCO to Port Canaveral, can I drive at 140 MPH to get there quicker, I know they say the speed limit is less but can I get around it? :beach::drinking1

But what about the person who honestly didn't know the policy. Fruits and vegetables are driven by Dept of Agriculture rules/laws.

But even if someone knew and they got caught, does Disney really want the bad press of how they ruined a family's vacation becasue dad tried to sneak a bottle of Jack onboard?

Anyway, their policy specifically states the alcohol will be held by the cruise ship to be picked up after the cruise. This is the same rule other cruise lines have.

I actually think this 'issues' is not nearly as big a deal as people are making it out to be. You can still bring on 2 bottles of wine.....per adult. So, for a typlical family, that would be 4 bottles of wine. Presumably this rule would apply to each port you went to.....if this makes sense? Say you bought a bottle of wine in Nassau.....are the guards going to confiscate the wine under the assumption you already brought two bottles on at Port Canaveral? I doubt it.

I think there is a very small percentage of people who really care about the policy change! Most people didn't take advantage of the policy if if they are drinkers. So you pay a little more for your drinks now.....so what?! No big deal. If you can't afford it, don't cruise or don't drink.

The new limits state "Effective for cruises embarking on or after September 30, 2015, Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call."

Its in the cruise documents and they are emailing people and my TA E mailed me, everyone should know.

But maybe have a grace period, and say enforce the suggestion in 2016.

I think they can tell as well, if booze say is in a water bottle, then they know the policy!!!

That's almost as bad as the holocaust analogy. Speeding is against the law you're endangering other peoples lives.

Sneaking alcohol on a ship is not against any laws. It's not hurting anybody. I'm not going to be embarrassed if DCL catches me I could give a rat's behind. As the customer I have plenty of options for spending my vacation dollars. Disney is the one with the PR nightmare.

Thanks! I didn't see that about each port of call. So 2 adults on typical 7 day cruise with ports of call in Nassua, Key West, Grand Caymen and Cozumel can bring on a total of 10 bottles of wine or 5 cases of beer. That's a lot of booze for 1 week.

RE 'everyone shoud know' I would not have know had it not been for DIS. And we probably represent less than 2% of the number of people cruising on any given cruise.

Biggest lie people make when cruising? "By signing below you acknowledge that you have read, understand and aree to the DCL contract."

This will be out 10th Disney cruise and I have NEVER read the DCL contract. Kinda like when you install new software or a new ap and say you read and understand the 'terms and conditions'. Nobody reads that stuff!!

Well, actually, it's 2 bottles of wine EACH at embarkation and ports of call, so the total for two adults would be 20 bottles of wine or 60 cans of beer (a little less than 3 cases).
