Sneaking alcohol onto DCL - We need to learn how

Aww gee, even when I supply a link in the post to help them, they are unable to find it.

Don't belittle me please. I saw the link and post re-quoted and didn't see a prompt for me to respond. I actually agree with your post and now see how it makes sense for the boards to care.

All for profit corporations' motives are to make money. I thought that was a given.

That is good you will tell your chridren my story. Be sure to put it in context for them and how you read it in a tread about how to be a sneak....and that it was ok to be a sneak and ignore the rules if you question the motives and think that the rules were meant to make money. Next week maybe you can teach them how to hop the fence and sneak into WDW to avoid paying park admittance becuase Disney is a big corporation motivated by money.....

I'll copy my earlier post, I think you missed it:

Look, if DCL, movie theaters, and sports stadiums charged a reasonable price with reasonable profit for extras, I'd be less inclined to bring my own.

I don't usually order a soda when eating out, the markup is absurd. Food prices are generally reasonable for value, so I eat out. I hate going to bars to drink unless they have decent prices.

I'm fine paying a lot for a movie or a cruise because I can't do the same myself (I don't have my own ship or movie theater). It's the extra squeezing once I'm there that ticks me off.

Am I alone thinking like this?

You are stealing from those who do pay. A movie theater, a bar, food places and cruiselines are in business to make money. They charge high mark-ups on soda abd beer and popcorn to make money. They have a certain profit margin they are trying to maintain. I you sneak in your alcohol into the bar or take your own popcorn to the movies or bring your own booze on a cruise then the corporation has to charge more for to those that do pay to make the profit they are shooting for. Do you think a bar is just going to 'settle for makeing less' because people are sneak in booze and don't buy theirs? No, they are going to charge the people who do pay for drinks more money. And if they didn't make as much on alcohol or popcorn or soda they will charge more at the door or for the movie ticket or for the sports game price. The Disney corporation sets goals and expectation for DCL profits. They are gonna make that profit one way or another. If they can't make it selling you over-priced cocktails on the ship becasue you snuck on your own booze, then they will charge the rest of us a little more for the cruise.

You might consider learning the difference between a crime and a corporate policy before you claim Parent of the Year award.

Thank you! You are too kind. I once won an award for being humble....but when I went down to accept the award, they recinded it. I hope this is not that sort of thing. :-)

BTW, it is a slippery when you start compromising your values and deciding that rules don't apply to you....and it's ok to undermine DCL profits becasue they make too much anyway......next thing you know you will be sneaking cans of soda into the movie theater because you think they charge too much for soda.....

If you sign the contract with DCL you are givinng your word....your honor and integrity are on the line. Don't throw that away over a few beers.

No belittling involved. You admit you saw the post but chose not to respond because it didn't fit into your agenda on this thread, imo, just like another prolific poster on these boards. On my planet, when I ask a question and someone is kind enough to provide me with an answer, I acknowledge them and thank them, regardless if I like the answer or not. You do know that there is magic in the Disney name, right?

So you're just insulted I didn't "like" your post and then respond saying you were absolutely correct. I will fix that sorry.

You are absolutely correct in your earlier post, and probably in everything else you do.

You're kidding about honor, values, and integrity right? There are no corporations that have those words in their Mission Statement. Or if they do, actually believe it or practice it.

They care because they get "perks" from Disney because they are the largest Disney Community Forum on the internet. Disney might not be so "giving of perks" to a forum that openly allows their members to discuss ways to violate Disney policies.

Oh my. This is the best post on this thread! Thanks Topper for pointing this out! I truly didn't know about the perks before, good to know. I should have replied to this the first instance I saw it to say that, I'm so sorry!!!!

I hate the policy change just as much as most everyone else; however, when sneaking on alcohol becomes expensive, time consuming, and thought consuming, it's time to just accept it and deal with it. I plan to bring 4 bottles of champagne (Me/wife) and pick up wine in each port. That along with wine package, tastings, and the usual $500-$700 bar tab should get me through just fine.

Here's my tips to keep the buzz going:
  • Don't get drink of the day - they're weak!
  • Drink beer. At least it's a standard volume and cheaper
  • Make friends with the bartenders and tip them well

Thanks! The Beer Mug deal is a good one too, I will be using it again.

Really back to you. Didn't take long to find a gem about them. Like I said, a company that actually practices it:

Couldnt you just put a plastic bottle of booze or some minis with the plastic tops.in your cargo shorts or under your shirt or jacket. They dont pat people down.

I know a "friend" that did that once with cargo shorts a few years ago on a different cruise line. 4 mini bottles of rum in each pocket. No problem. They might ask you take the jacket off though and put it through the metal detector, in which case it would probably be nabbed. (As an aside, I hope the port security does a better job than the so called security posted in front of the Disney parks . . . where they will rummage through every fanny pack and every nook and cranny of a stroller, but let someone walk by them wearing a heavy zipped up jacket large enough to conceal an uzi without hesitation).

This is starting to be silly..it really boils down to this:

1. The rules apply to everyone, just because you may think DCL is to expensive or allegedly making to much money, doesn't give anyone the right to not to follow the rules.

2. Yes kids see everything.........and by cheating, your kids are learning that you agree, societies( yes even on a cruise ship the rules are equal to societies rules) rules apply to other but not to them.

3. If you cannot go by the rules set, by DCL or any other Lines, its time to move on to another Line.

4. I don't like the change any more then others here and I took the time to mail send (USPO) a letter to the Line and sign the petition.

5. Any broken bottle leak into my baggage, the owner will be paying the bill to clean, repair or replace the items. It kinda hard to hide a bag leaking onto the lower bag, Yes I was there when it happened once on the Magic and yes the owner paid for it as the conversation with the Hotel Staff Officer and the owner happened in the passageway next to our cabin.

It is called doing the honorable thing and displaying good character for your children.

Just JMHO..............AKK

Perhaps your best bet (don't take offense) is to try an All Inclusive cruise; e.g. Silver Seas. Wouldn't have to worry about any "extra squeezing"; they do theirs all up front. Plus they have exceptional itineraries.

I misspoke when I sad "a lot", sorry, i won't be sailing Silver Seas ever. I'm still frugal with most things, but see the value on taking my kids on DCL. I still used an old OBC to get the 10% discount, booked it first day it went out, bought the Target and Disney gift cards through Raise. All in an effort to make it worth it.

It still comes down to the squeezing that irks me. Other posters can keep coming down with the righteous integrity remarks all they want. I'll be meeting my maker with no qualms on how I've lived my life or raised my children. I live by the Golden Rule, and the way most corporations and banks have treated us, I should be buying Vasoline to make my returning their favors less painful.

Is the same Boeing you're referring to?

Harry Stonecipher, Boeing

By Frances Romero
Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010

Following the ouster of Philip Condit as Boeing CEO in 2003, Harry Stonecipher came out of retirement to take over the reins. But Stonecipher clearly didn't learn any lessons from Condit's dismissal, which had been precipitated by not only an Air Force contracting scandal but also reported affairs with employees. So when an anonymous e-mail was sent that implicated Stonecipher in an affair with female executive Debra Peabody, it was déjà vu for the scandal-hit aviation company. Just 18 months after taking over, Stonecipher resigned after an investigation into illicit e-mails between the two confirmed the allegation.

No individual is perfect. No corporation - made up of 150,000 individuals - is perfect too. I worked for Boeing for over 27 years....it was not hard to find. MOST corporations have core values that include integrity, honesty, ethical behavior.

If you see nothing wrong with it, then go ahead and do it. Just ask yourself, would I be comfortable posting to FB or telling your children or grandchilden, neighbor, pastor.....how you broked the rules on Disney cruise by sneaking in alcohol so you wouldn't have to pay for you booze on the cruise.
