Sneaking alcohol onto DCL - We need to learn how

I know that this thread has taken a turn, but to answer the original question: Rum Runners rock! We used them on Carnival and NCL. If you're worried about DCL seeing the cap, tuck the tops of the bags into shoes or place your toiletries over them. We brought light and dark rum. We also brought along a water bottle to fill with juice in the morning, a small plastic bottle of grenadine and 2 small cans of coconut milk which we placed in our carry-ons. We would mix tropical drinks back in our room. On NCL, we also paid corkage fees for a couple bottles of wine we carried on that we drank at dinner.

I totally agree this is the real reason. Passengers would not follow the rules and Disney was watching and most likely reading the forums, where so many were bragging how they did what they wanted.

So for the folks who stated that if DCL didn't liked them fluting the rules they would stop it..........well........they stopped it.

Sad but quite true!

I'm suprised this thread has lasted as long as it has. The idea of a thread about how to break the rules is beneath the dignity of the forum.
Does anyone else see the irony of a thread about how to 'not follow the rules' started because DCL (presumably) changed its policy because passengers would 'not follow the rules'?!

Yes, you can save a few bucks by sneaking stuff in.......you can use it as an 'teaching moment' for your children! "Kids, if you don't agree with the rules then you are justified figuring out a way to get around the rules. Especially if it saves you money on your bar tab!"

YOU ARE 100% WRONG!!! IT IS MONEY PLAIN AND SIMPLE

YOU ARE 100% WRONG!!! IT IS MONEY PLAIN AND SIMPLE

Doesn't matter. There is nothing wrong with a company making money.....the are no sailing that big ship pro bono.

You can use this to teach your children a little about integrity.

Many years ago we were driving down the interstate and saw a suitecase in the middle of the road. I figured it blew off someone's roof so stopped and picked it up. There were dress clothes for a man and a woman and $400 in one dollar bills! My son, seeing the $400, said, "Wow! We are rich!" I said no son, that money is not ours. It took us 2 weeks but we tracked down the owers and returned the suitcase and money. Turns out it was a young couple on their honeymoon. Her mom was a waitress and had saved tips for her daughter for a wedding present. They were so grateful to get the suitcase back. They said they had assumed they would never see the suitcase again.

I post this to illustrate that our kids see EVERTHING. Even things we think they don't see or notice, they see....and they learn.

Suck it up and pay for you drinks and don't try to cheat the system.

And just so you know, it is 100% about integrity. Before you sail you sign a statement stating that you read, understand and will follow the rules.

Sorry, my reasons are quite well documented over the years as I explained.

How many cruises have you been on? We are platinum, if you THINK people bringing their own drinks on deck changed the rules you live in some other country than the US and have no clue about corporate cultures!

Another idea is to have your children smuggle your booze thru security! No one would suspect or seach a 7 year of carring on a bottle of vodka.......

;-)

Just teasin'

Well, that wouldn't work for me since my teen would be definitely be suspected. Thanks for the idea, though ;).

6 DCL so far, and have another in November.....and normally your opinion on corporate greed may have been right. But Disney had this perk of bringing alcohol onboard for years and it has not been until recently many folks have been very vocal about cheating the rules.

Please don't say I live in another country.......Born in the USA and have workings in the corporate world from the bottom up. Since DCL has no problems filling there ships, why would they change the game plan unless the passengers making the perk unworkable. If it was all money, they work have changed the perk, back in 2008, when the ships were harder to fill. Corporations don't change a successful perk unless they are given reasons to.

I stand by my reasons.

Yeah, my 'children' are old enough now, if I gave them a bottle of vodka I'd never get it back! (22 and 25 yo)

That is not the reason the change happened. People have been bringing alcohol on deck since DCL is opened this is purely a financial decision. I should know I have been bring my beer on deck for over 10 cruises

As I have stated before, YES, it absolutely is a financial decision. But one that was exacerbated by people failing to follow the rules. Most people on a cruise don't want to be holed up in their stateroom the entire time. They want to be out laying by the pool, eating in the MDRs, going to the shows and clubs, etc. And they want to have a drink when doing these things. If people were following the rules, they would be purchasing their drinks when they were out and about. People would only be drinking their own alcohol at limited times, e.g. when getting ready for dinner or after the kids are in bed. DCL would be losing out on just a small part of alcohol sales, and perhaps not even that much as some people would just forgo the before dinner drink or nightcap if they had to leave their room to get it. But in increasing numbers, people were ignoring the "consumed in your stateroom" part. There have been many, many posts on this board about "will I get in trouble if I take my own drink to...." And plenty of people saying "Go ahead and ignore that. They'll never know." Now DCL was missing out on selling wine at dinner, drinks by the pools, etc. The bartenders weren't happy. They were losing out on tips. So DCL decided they would change their policy in order to increase their alcohol sales.

If I teach my children to question a corporation 's motives then we all win. Letting them be sheep is not the answer!

Bless you for telling us that heart wrenching story about the suitcase. I'll be telling my children that story tonight before I lay them down to sleep.

Look, if DCL, movie theaters, and sports stadiums charged a reasonable price with reasonable profit for extras, I'd be less inclined to bring my own.

I don't usually order a soda when eating out, the markup is absurd. Food prices are generally reasonable for value, so I eat out. I hate going to bars to drink unless they have decent prices.

I'm fine paying a lot for a movie or a cruise because I can't do the same myself (I don't havey own ship or movie theater). It's the extra squeezing once I'm there that ticks me off.

Am I alone thinking like this?
