Im a LI NY girl and moved down to Central Florida 5 years ago..
We didnt have many snakes on LI, just the green garden snakes, and I never gave a thought to any of the wild life I would encounter moving to Florida.
When I lived in NY, my sister lived in Florida for over 40 years, and as a kid and an adult I spent a lot of time visiting her.
Since I have been here I have survived three major hurricanes, (the area I live in had not been hit by a major hurricane in over 50 years ) my luck that I move down right before Charlie and Frances.
We see black racers in our yard and pool very often, at first I was terrified but now knowing that they are harmless I am still terrified.
I couldnt stand it if I saw a roach in a supermarket or restaurant in NY, now in Florida there are Palmetto bugs the size of my cat.
And forget about Lizards, cute little disgusting things that get into my home all the time.
If I see a Lizard or Palmetto bug in my home, no one and I mean no one is going to sleep till either my DS or DH gets it, kills it, or gets it out of my house.
Lets not forget about the cute little Armidillos (sp?) that dig up your lawn all year, and the alligators that seem to be walking up to peoples homes all the time lately.
But I have to admit, being close to the mouse house and the beautiful weather and beaches makes those things small in comparison.
I have been to Disney over 20 times and have never seen a snake, lots of spiders, but no snakes, and we have stayed at a lot of different resorts.
Dont be scared, just be careful and enjoy your wonderful trip.
