Snake in Resort Room?

LOL! You people crak me up. :rotfl: Growing up here I've never been afraid of snakes - I used to run around barefoot as a kid trying to catch black racers at my grandma's house. They're more scared of you anyway... ;)
That's funny. People tell me all the time that snakes are more afraid of me than I am of them, but i highly doubt that! I am TERRIFIED of them. And even if they are more afraid of me than I am of them, so what? That doesn't make me less afraid. This isn't some rational thing that I can think myself through. I appreciate people trying to help me through my fears, but it isn't working for me. :eek:Once in a while I see one outside of my office window and I call maintenance to take care of it. They are around the nursing home where I work, and one got inside the building. I know they are around, but I can not handle the thought of snakes at my happy place.
My brother lives in Homestead and he has those lizards that get into his house sometimes, and once a little snake did. It happened while I was visiting him and he didn't tell me because he was afraid I wouldn't come back to visit him anymore if I knew it. My husband told me about it later.
I need to get over it, or just forget my dream of retiring to WDW.

This is my first post....

I was hoping for a little advice as it appears I'm not the only one to have seen snakes at Disney.

Up until this year, I had seen or been told of snakes in the parks, but had never encountered one at any of the Resorts.

Well, that was until December...

We stayed at Pop Century for two weeks over Christmas and encountered a snake while walking to the parking lot over by the children's play area...70's, I guess? Luckily, it seemed relatively docile and a man who was standing over by it warned us so we quickly walked away. No harm done, right?

Well, we returned for two weeks in March/April and we encountered another snake. Unfortunately, this one was anything but docile. The snake was towards the back of Building 10 and we were walking on one of the concrete paths around midnight when I stopped the stroller and walked away from it momentarily.

When I went turned back to the stroller moments later, I noticed something under it. Sure enough, it was a snake...it had some type of reddish/orange pattern on it...I really didn't stand around long enough to examine it. I'm an animal lover for the most part...with the exception being snakes and a few other reptiles. I've had a lifelong phobia and I just don't like them at all.

Needless to say, I about fainted. There was a group of young guys watching us and they were hysterical. Without thinking, I just took off and left the stroller; however, not really realizing what was going on, my mom went for the stroller (unoccupied, thankfully) and the snake was anything but happy...one too many days at Disney, perhaps? He started chasing us and we used the stroller to try and keep him at bay. Eventually, he went into the grass. Before we left, one was also found in the computer pool.

Once I returned home, I googled it to see if anyone else had similar experiences and this site came up.

Well, if I wasn't ready to turn in my Mickey ears before, reading these posts have just about done it. Snakes in rooms...in the bed!

I really wouldn't have to worry about whether or not it were poisonous because the heart attack would do me in. Trust me, I'd be a "died at Disney" statistic.

We are supposed to return to Disney for two weeks in September, but after reading these posts along with our last experience, I'm thinking it might be best to cancel. We have reserved Pop Century again (reserved before last trip)...we normally go there or CB for longer stays. Does anyone know if Music is having the same issues with snakes? I know it's Florida and they're everywhere, but it's just strange that we've been going for years....never seen any snakes at the resorts....now both times we see them.

I always thought snakes would go out of their way to avoid humans. Apparently not...I don't know what the problem was but this particular snake remained on the concrete path for some time coming our way. Had we not had the stroller someone would have been bitten. There was no amount of "magic" or pixie dust or alcoholic beverage-- for that matter- that would have helped that snake. Seriously, he had a severe case of "road/walk rage."

I just couldn't imagine finding one in the room. We did, however, once find ants in the bed on check-in...up the wall and on the nightstand, but as gross as it was, I wasn't afraid of them. We simply changed rooms.

How are the snakes getting into rooms? Can they get into the room through the AC unit?

Thanks.

OMG I wish I didn't come across this thread. I am so scared of snakes. My brother used to put them in my bed when I was a kid. Long story but I am so scared of them. I was happy to say I have NEVER come across one in all my visits yet. Of course I'm never really "looking" as I don't want to see them. I have never done the Pocohantis (sp) show or been to the Conservation station because I didn't want to see one.

OMG I would loose it if I saw one in my room.

We saw that huge snake by the boat docks at POFQ in 2006 that another poster mentioned, plus numerous alligator sightings on the Sassagoula river on the ride to Downtown Disney...one cool boat captain knew I was a nature buff and would "quietly" point them out to me, most were near the treehouses, which in 2006 were employee housing. Maybe they chased the alligators out for DVC????;)

We also saw 2 snakes in POP in 2005...my friends who at the time lived in Fl. came to see us there and they pointed them out, black racers, no biggie. My DH calls me "the nature spotter" because I have a keen eye in seeing things in nature. We live in southwest suburban Chicago and I've seen coyotes (we actually have them in our backyard weekly, but they keep the bunnies out, so they are welcome!), foxes, deer, all kinds of birds, snakes, turtles, frogs, etc...we used to go to Marco Island all the time and I'd see manatees, alligators, panthers, etc....I LOVE IT!!! Everytime we go to WDW, I see alligators. Does not bother me a bit...my gram used to live along a canal in FL and we'd toss marshmallows at gators, back in the 70's. She'd get so MAD at us!!!

Of course, do I like nature in my home or room? Heck, no!!! Which is why I never get a first-floor room, sweep for bedbugs on arrival, and do not cut through grasses or plantings. As much as I love nature, if a snake was in my bed, I'd turn into Samuel L. Jackson in one fell swoop, wetting my pants whle screaming, "I am so sick of these mother $^##& snakes in my mother $%%$# resort room!":scared1:

I'm afraid of the little garter snakes in our woods! That said, I've been to WDW 25 times and saw a snake once. That one was outside the Trading Post near the marina. A CM came and took it away. That was in 1981. Back then, we were told they relocate snakes....

This is the most traumatizing thing that I have ever read.

I am completely terrified of snakes, and WILL NOT go back to a place that I have seen one, luckily I've only seen a snake in real life like twice. I always freak out when i have to walk in grass, and my eyes are down constantly making sure there aren't any snakes.

I never even thought about the possibility of snakes in WDW, wth was I thinking booking this vacation??? Oh well, I will be one of us that books an upper floor room, plugs up all cracks, searches room daily, and declines mousekeeping.

eeeeeek

I will definitely be checking our room when we get to CR. This has totally freaked me out:eek:

OMG!!! I am totally freaking out! In the bed????? On the 4th floor of the CR????? I can't take it! How????

So gross!!! I am definitely going to have nightmares tonight and heebee-jeebee's next time we(if we) go back! :scared1::scared:

I have never seen a snake or spider in Disney World.. thank God.. I would jump out of my skin. Lizzards and bunnies and a croc in the pond, but no snakes.

Looking at resort photos earlier with my 8 year old daughter... she sees this thread... and is like snake in a room!???!!!
Granted, I am always checking out this thread about the snakes and am terrified of the thought of seeing one in our resort..... but last thing I need is my daughter also terrified - so had to say oh, it's just something stupid about someone and a fake snake!
then she saw the other thread, 'if you had a snake in your room, what kind would it be" thread.... I was like see, there's those crazy snake people joking about someone's fake snake!

I think most of them slither in from housekeeping leaving the room doors open, I have always checked the room for snakes but you do need to do it daily since the doors are open while you are gone.
I hate snakes!
I used to swim at Ft Wilderness River Country as a child, I cannot imagine how scary it would have been to see a snake!

Ok, just so I have this straight can someone give a list of where each of the snakes was seen on property and in what resorts? I am too scared to read thru this entire thread, and we are visiting in Aug. I'm hoping its going to be too hot for snakes.......:rotfl2: I know I'm being rediculous!!!! But a girl can hope!!!

I saw a snake in Epcot, on the walkway to the bathroom in Norway by the Viking ship. It was night, dark, and he was slithering verrrry slowly across the path. A few people almost stepped on it, walking without looking down. A man picked it up & put it in the bushes.

I was surprised to see one in such a busy area. Clearly they are everywhere down there!

I always say snakes are only good for one thing: accessories!

I always say...the only good snake is a dead snake.

We saw one at one of the wateparks and my idiot DH touched it just to upset me. It was one of the black ones. Lucky for me there was a CM walking in front of us and she saw it first. She screamed and saved me from doing it and getting embarassed.

Why oh why did I just read all 15 pages of this thread? My skin is crawling. I am so scared of snakes that when I see one on tv I tear up from the fear and curl into the fetal position on the couch. I do have to say that while living in Florida for my CP back in '04 I never once saw a snake.
I understand how they can get into a first floor room, but how do they climb up into the bed? It not like they have feet.

That's what I was wondering. The story about the one at the CR was on the 4th floor :scared1: How the heck did it get there? Plus, it was up on top of the curtains. :confused3

I'm probably one of the few people here who probably WOULDN'T freak out if she found a snake in her room. I'd take pictures first, and then call a CM to remove it if it looked poisonous.

But then again, I had pet snakes as a child up until I went off to college. One of my favorite pet snakes was a beautifully colored corn snake who was descended from snakes that were captured from Florida. I'd want to see if it was one of his relatives.

I'd rather see a snake in my room than a roach, bedbug, or uncleaned toilet.

I'm really jealous of my husband. He went on a company sponsored business trip one year and his business sent him and his coworkers off to a free round of golf at an expensive golf course in Florida. Halfway through the game an alligator came out of water hazard pond and ate their balls. I totally wished I could have been there to see that.

I hate snakes and I live in FL. Why did I open this thread. I will be checking my room every time I enter. I have been to Disney parks at least 20 times and never saw one at any of the parks, but one time someone said they say one by the Jungle Cruise.
