Snake in Resort Room?

I'm going to carry a hoe for the snakes, purina rabbit food for the bunnies, an ice crusher for my slushies and a mask and hand sanitizer for the swine flu. What else do I need. I so don't want to cancel my trip!

...and people just worry about SunScreen! :lmao:

I have stayed at many of the resorts, the only resort I ever saw a snake or I should say a few snakes was at the Wilderness Lodge. Nothing in the room however. Always crossing a sidewalk.

Oh wait, I did see a girl at EPcot pick one up last year and through it over the fence...it was near Morocco. Everyone gave her a cheer! :cheer2:

I guess I should have known better than to have opened something with "snakes" and "Disney" in it:rotfl2:

I am going to SEARCH my entire POP room, then plug up under the door and seal up around the air conditioner. That will work...right?....right?....
:scared:

right now if I just hadn't told our kids we were going to Disney in September I would truly cancel. I have never thought of this and I will honestly consider this to be our last trip. No one can even imagine my fears. I don't go in my grass at my house and I have never seen a snake here. I will have that room so torn apart every day and night I won't be able to settle at night. My DH will be so mad at me. I will probably be so hyper focused until we leave that I won't be able to enjoy getting ready to go. As true as I sit here I wish we weren't going and I never thought I would feel like that. I hate snakes so much i won't even go in a pet store for fear of seeing one. I will be afraid everywhere now. I will be freaked out on every ride that they are in it, every room I am in every bathroom. I am so mad now.

I wish you hadn't read this! I am afraid as well. I think most of us are having a little fun with it and it makes me feel a little better. If you read all the posts, some folks have been going to WDW for years and never have seen a snake. I've been there 20 times and yes, I've seen a couple but only at WL and EPCOT WS - an they weren't close. Unsubscribe to this thread and don't read anymore. Don't let it ruin your vacation. If it would make you feel better, take a flashlight with you and look around in your room when you get there. If you have sliding doors, don't leave them open unattended especially on the ground floor and ask your housekeeper not to leave your door propped open while he/she is cleaning. If this were a problem, no one would be staying at WDW. Let me know when you get back - I'll bet you won't see one.

Thank you for being so kind and so concerned. I have been talking myself down off the ledge some. I keep telling myself I am ridiculous for letting this bother me. The flashlight is a good idea. It will definately be on my packing list!

So here I am going to be a first time visitor to Disney and so far I have found that there are : Bugs in the food (restaurant review)
: Snakes in the Bed (here)
: Stinging Catapillers that have venom that makes you itch
(different forum)
: Rats that run across your feet while you eat (here)

Please please tell me there is something likable about Disney. I am getting more worried every time I read a new thread!

I pretty much subscribe to the idea that wildlife has there home and I have my home and never the two shall mix. Didn't they get the memo??????

Ok fellow Hoosier, I can tell I have never bitten by a mosquito at WDW!

Plus a million other wonderful reason to love WDW. The first time you see Cinderella's Castle you'll forget this thread.

After reading this thread I will just be more cautious. Like not taking short cuts through the grass and checking in the room.

Other than that...I WILL enjoy my vacation. It's the happiest place on earth. Right? Just imagine that the snakes have cute little Mickey ears on them and that they too are just happy to be there. They're truly lucky critters, they get to live at Disney World. :rotfl2:

Relax and have fun :dance3:.

We've seen snakes several times at Pop. Outside thank goodness. The lake is right there. I am not afraid of snakes, but don't want them in the bed, or to be surprised by one. I can't believe all of the people who say they "hate" snakes. I have seen them all of my life, and would not want to kill one. Black plague anyone? It's Florida people...they have palmetto bugs (which are roaches to me!) bigger than those rats at Epcot! I lived in St. Pete, and central Fla is swampy. Enjoy your trip with all God's creatures.

Just got back from 8 days @ CBR and never saw one snake. Hope that helps to calm some fears.

On our first trip, we watched a CM fish a snake out of the water at Splash Mountain, at the bottom of the big drop right near the bridge. At the same time, he also found a ring.
I think he was originally there for the ring, because he handed it up to a woman on the bridge.
Guess the snake was just a bonus.

Also had one slither across my path as I was going from the hot tub to the main pool at OKW. It was a black racer, maybe three feet long.

And last, we saw a black racer at Typhoon Lagoon. My dad went to investigate and was bending over it, I don't know if he thought he would pick it up or what. A CM came running over and kept telling him "sir, sir please back away." It took dad a few moments before he realized what was being said, as he is hard of hearing.
It was interesting and a gaggle of kids had gathered around to watch.

Not scared of them, at least not the black racers. They are harmless.

Maybe this has already been addressed, but why is this thread in the resort photos section?

Would it look stupid if I take my little flash light to look in the Splash Moutain "boats" before I get in? I need a pith helmet with mickey ears.

Ok, so I've been reading this thread and I have to say that I'm shocked that so many people are terrified of snakes. I'm from GA and see them all the time, I guess I'm just used to it. When we find them DH puts them in a pillowcase and takes them away from our house and lets them go. We don't kill them.

Im a LI NY girl and moved down to Central Florida 5 years ago..

We didnt have many snakes on LI, just the green garden snakes, and I never gave a thought to any of the wild life I would encounter moving to Florida.:lmao:

When I lived in NY, my sister lived in Florida for over 40 years, and as a kid and an adult I spent a lot of time visiting her.

Since I have been here I have survived three major hurricanes, (the area I live in had not been hit by a major hurricane in over 50 years ) my luck that I move down right before Charlie and Frances.

We see black racers in our yard and pool very often, at first I was terrified but now knowing that they are harmless I am still terrified. :confused3

I couldnt stand it if I saw a roach in a supermarket or restaurant in NY, now in Florida there are Palmetto bugs the size of my cat. :scared1:

And forget about Lizards, cute little disgusting things that get into my home all the time.

If I see a Lizard or Palmetto bug in my home, no one and I mean no one is going to sleep till either my DS or DH gets it, kills it, or gets it out of my house. :sad2:

Lets not forget about the cute little Armidillos (sp?) that dig up your lawn all year, and the alligators that seem to be walking up to peoples homes all the time lately.

But I have to admit, being close to the mouse house and the beautiful weather and beaches makes those things small in comparison. :yay:

I have been to Disney over 20 times and have never seen a snake, lots of spiders, but no snakes, and we have stayed at a lot of different resorts.

Dont be scared, just be careful and enjoy your wonderful trip.
