My dd is turning the big 1-0!

she asked for a slumber party for her birthday and was allowed to invite 9 friends, so counting her 10 kids. (of course mom is counting on some not being able to come :rolleyes1 ) We're working on the 3 boys staying with friends so the girls aren't tortured all evening (and any families who don't feel comfortable with their daughter sleeping at our house w/ a 12 yo boy don't have to worry).

Party is scheduled from 6pm - 10am. This not her first sleepover, but her first party with lots of friends in awhile.

I'm thinking that we're not going to provide dinner, but lots of snacks. Then breakfast the next morning.

What type of activities? Should I be planning games?

I'm going to get some bottles of nail polish and let the girls have a polish party :confused3

Any easy on the budget activites would be appreciated :goodvibes:

Movies are always great for those that stay awake when others start to doze off...

What about doing a snack/acticity all in one like having the girls make their own mini pizzas using premade pop-open biscuits and then have a selection of toppings for them to choose from. toppings could be "family style" in bowls and they could all take part in the fun all at one time.

What the others have suggested so far are good.

In addition, you could have a dessert bar with vanilla ice cream and all the toppings.

Maybe you could get a bunch of random nail polishes (either from the dollar store or your own that you never use) for them to use? That would probably entertain them for awhile.

Nail polishes sound great...sometimes you can find cheap nail appliques too, at drug stores etc, like little flowers and hearts....maybe hearts since valentines day is coming soon! they can put them on their nails. cute!

also, i ALWAYS had cheap sleepovers...one of our favorite things was using the video camera. do you have one? if so, maybe the girls can pick their favorite song, and bring fun clothes and accessories (maybe you can even pick up some cheap hair things or beads, blow up instruments, etc.) and they can totally plan dancing and all sorts of fun things and you can record their music video! the best part is always watching it at the end, or the next morning. my friend and i would love lip syncing to songs, or re-enacting scenes from our favorite movies...or creating our own tv shows! we had such a great time...and it was totally cheap!!

When my DD turned 11 she had a sleepover.
After pizzas around 7:00, I told the girls not to snack during the evening.
At midnite (which was DD's actual b-day) we did a sundae bar.

I had purchased a really cool ice cream sundae dish for each girl.

On the island in the kitchen I put out:
several flavors ice cream
syrups
sprinkles
whipped cream
nuts
cherries
a few ice cream scoops

I let the girls go at it!

I washed the sundae dishes afterwards & filled them with nail polish, lip gloss, etc, & the next morning they took them home as their goody-bags.

**BTW, if you're starting the party at 6pm, I would provide dinner...that's dinnertime for many.

Everyone had lots of great ideas...

If you want to expand on the nail polish thing teach them how to do each others manicures (and/or pedicures). They can soak their hands...push back their cuticles...do hand massages...and then the polish. The nails stickers are a great idea too. Sort of a 'spa' night.

If your dd is into cooking at all they can all make dough together for homemade cinnamon rolls or coffee cake that you can throw in the oven in the morning.

Hope she has a great time!

How about some type of a craft, like beaded necklaces or making candles. We have a craft store near us and you can buy three large kits for $10 and each kit has 3-4 items in it. You can then break them up so each girl has one.

I am still recovering from my DD8 slumber party last weekend. I ordered pizza at about nine - and lots of crackers and milk - I read somewhere that crackers raises their seratonin(sp?) levels and helps them sleep, well, I am here to tell you, IT DOESN'T WORK!!

Anyway, for games we played the classic charades and "playdohtionary" (pictionary, but with playdoh). They went over well. They liked to dance and sing, put on a couple of music CD's, and they make their own fun.

One thing I was going to do was decorate white pillowcases with fabric markers. I opted to wait on that one and use it for a Girl Scout sleepover later in the year (I have more girls, so it would be cheaper.) But instead, we did MyStuffedBear.com. Not easy on the budget, but I said what the heck! The girls loved it! And it beats the heck out of trying to keep track of all those girls in a busy mall for a Build a Bear, which I know all girls love!

Good Luck and go to bed early the night before!!

IMHO if you start it at 6:00 pm, parents will think that dinner is included. Either spring for some pizza's, or make it a 7:00pm start time.

For a game, Twister is great for that age!

that is what I did/do... my youngest is now 14. They would get a movie, make their own snacks (pizza, nachos, even cookies & cup cakes). One thing I learned not to do is to put some girls in one room to sleep & others in another  the next thing you have is one room pit against the other.. that happened on year with my dd's friends. From that point on, all slept in the living room... on the floor, couch, loveseat.. I didn't care... they had to be all together.. :laundy:

dollar store make up and hair accessories for "make-overs"

**BTW, if you're starting the party at 6pm, I would provide dinner...that's dinnertime for many.

If you don't want to provide dinner, make sure the invite is clear that there is no dinner being served and maybe change the time to 6:30 or 7:00 OR buy some frozen pizzas to serve. Our grocery store just had Jack's pizzas 5 for $10.

thanks for the advice so far!

I will provide fixin's to make homemade pizzas for the girls. That will be a good starting activity.

I like the sundae bar idea and home movies too!

My dd has our old video camera so I'll have to set it up on the tripod for them. and then make a dvd of their movies for each girl to take home.

When we did it for my DD, we got out the kareoke machine and they loved singing into it!!! Hooks right into the front of the TV

I also got a cup of face mask at Libby Lu's and they all put masks on ... (I passed out headbands for their hair) It made a great picture of all of her friends and her with their blue faces!!!

I also bought inexpensive washclothes.. and toothbrushes from the dollar store and rolled them up together (think silverware and napkin)... tied with a ribbon and handed them out as favors!

Have fun!

We did this last year for DD's b-day party. Except we used the Pillsbury pizza crusts.

We also had each girl bring their favorite movie, and they watched movies.

We also tye-dyed pillow cases.

(We originally planned on going to a movie, but the movies that weekend just SUCKED.)

One activity you can do with the girls is pair them off and have crazy hair and make up fun that they can do on each other.

Then give each child their own disposable cameras (you can pick them up cheaply at costco or walmart) They can take them home and have them developed themselves.

Girls just love taking pictures all night long.

At this point you should also be taking pictures with a digital camera.

While they are sleeping print out pictures from your computer and place them on the walls of the kitchen so when they wake up for breakfast they will start to crack up laughing at themselves. With all that funny make-up and hairdo they just had fun doing.

We used a piece of colorful velvet hanging in our hallway for a back drop. The girls gave themselves makeovers and then I took pictures of them with my digital camera. We had a feather boa and other accessories. The girls decorated picture frames and I printed a picture of each girl to go in them.

They also had alot of fun playing sceneit and using my bratz kareoke machine.
I think that having some cut strips of cloth and rag rolling hair would be a fun activity.

Maybe you could do a Spa Night for the girls, have them wear their robes and slippers, we made lip gloss and scented bath salts, did facials (homemade), manicures and pedicures. We had an ice cream bar and decorate your own cupcakes. I think at 6:00, they will want more to eat than snacks, so I would plan on ordering in pizza.

I bought Cheese Pizza @ Costco...which we ate when they arrived...
Then they gave each other makeovers -- hair, face & nails...
They made picture frames...they had tons of fun [I had gotten them at the dollar spot at Target]...
They did High School Musical Karaoke and videotaped each other....then watched the videos and cracked up...
We made puppy chow together...
Presents & Cake...
They ate the puppy chow while watching High School Musical...at 10:30 or 11:00 pm...most were asleep before movie ended...
I had pre-made baked french toast and eggs. So I popped them in the oven while they played...they woke at 6:30...breakfast around 7:30...
They changed and packed up...
They made bracelets, and played 20 questions...pick up was 11:00 am...
it was very smooth.
