I rarely wear watches anymore since my cellphone has taken its place along with several other appliances.
Still I’ve several that I’ve either inherited from loved ones or somehow retained on my own in life. I say somehow as my children were descendants of Dr. Destructo and of course, wild ravening wolves.
What remains:
A Movado and a Rolex watch that belonged to the man. His brother inherited the Schauffhausen. The Movado was a replacement for an earlier piece that a monster teenager lost. One of his personal quirks was that all watches must have Arabic faces. None of that iconography nonsense for him, lol.
Several watches I inherited from Jamaican and Panamanian “aunties” of a different era. Often independent and single (whether by choice or some man’s design), these watches (and dirigeur linen lace handkerchiefs) were symbols of their place in society. Flourishing either entitled them to discuss who was a “lazy Lima bean” going to the bowels of Hell and who was a “gud gell” (translation= good girl)

. I’ve two fob watches, one 14 carat and the other, 18 carat. Also a replica MM watch that I’m clueless who the original intended was; it was found among her effects.
My Papa (paternal grandfather) left me a pocket watch given him by his congregation upon retirement. In some ways, it’s my most cherished possession.
I’ve one platinum dress watch courtesy of Mommy who inherited it from Auntie Barbara who directly left me an already mentioned nurse’s fob.
I’ve been searching for a watch ring I was given as a teen to get it cleaned and can’t find it but continue to hope

. Finally, I’ve several Swatch watches that proved their permanency by surviving the ‘80s, lol.
