Fudge and other chocolate goods were avoided in the house when I was growing up as elder sister was allergic to it. Which probably accounts for my present take it or leave attitude about the treat. Now if you asked about strawberry shortcake you’d get a totally different response.
I repeatedly get raves on my strawberry shortcake. Spoiler alert: it's the Bisquick recipe! The part that takes the longest is cutting up the fresh strawberries.

I used to make fudge every single year -- the kind made with marshmallow cream. So I'm wondering why did I stop making it. And now I just realized while thinking about this thread...it's because they put a See's Candies store in about five minutes from us. We eat a lot of delicious chocolate during the holidays.

This will be the first Christmas......maybe in my life......that there will not be homemade fudge in the house. As a kid my mom always made it. And my wife has always made it, but most of it went to work. Just the two of us this year, and being retired, and not needing the sugar, no holiday baking, at least to the level we used to do. My wife made chocolate covered walnuts and chocolate covered peanuts, and so far, those have managed to keep my blood sugar elevated all by themselves.
Is it your wife that would make 8 million cookies for 57 people at all your work offices? With the price of eggs, chocolate and butter, with no baking, there's two or three disney trips right there.

We went to disney for two weeks, got home , two days later hurt my back. I believe it's due to grocery stores putting everything I want on half empty top shelves. It's coming along, but not not there yet. So no cookies yet. Might just make a batch of chocolate chip with a promise of Valentine cookies. I feel a bit guilty not making the usual 6-8 types of cookies.

That would be her. First year with no office baking. Closer to 200 people. Although even just her baking for us this year, she used a 16 ounce bottle of Vanilla Extract. Baking is her jam. And her TV station now does a employee baking competition because she is no longer there.

It used to be a tradition in our family for DS to make Fantasy Fudge (the recipe from the jar) for his grandfather at Christmas. This was back when DS was about 8-16, he's now over 40 yo. Dad, sadly passed away about 15 years ago. But I can still remember Dad sitting calmly in the living room, pretending not to notice the absence of DS and the chocolate aromas coming from the kitchen, then acting surprised when DS gifted him with a big plate of fudge. Thanks for the memories!

My mom used to have a recipe that has been lost. I can't quite remember it but I remember boiling sweetened condensed milk and pouring it over semi sweet chocolate chips and a couple squares of unsweetened chocolate and a jar of marshmallow fluff. Plus sugar and vanilla I'm sure. Sadly, the recipe has been lost. My mom got this recipe from friends when we lived in Mass back in the 60's.
